Grammy Awards 2015: My Best Dressed List

Grammys-rihannaThe Grammy Awards are notorious for being a bit of a hit-and-miss red carpet, mainly because singers it seems like sheer, cut-outs, and generally plunging, anything for a little attention. For most it doesn’t work, it is generally so bad you have to laugh, but as I don’t like to focus on the negative, lets rejoice in the fact that there were a handful of beauties that pulled off amazing looks. Here are my best dressed ladies from the 2015 Grammy Awards:

Rihanna in Giambattista Valli

Rihanna was the last to arrive and oh boy was it worth the wait. The singer literally glided down the red carpet in this dreamy statement pink tulle Giambattista Valli haute couture gown, worn straight off the Paris runway, teamed with over 50 carats of Chopard diamonds.

First of all, the cotton-candy colour is divine, secondly, there is no such thing as too big when it comes to Rihanna, thank god for that, and thirdly, I love that she saw it on the internet and had to have it! There is only one thing, even though I love this look on Rihanna, part of me is a little sad that this beauty won’t now get a Cannes outing, which is kind of where I thought it might be showcased.

As well as loving the dress, I do love a girlie Rihanna, I adore the fact she went for a feminine, natural beauty look, the ballet bun goes perfectly with this ruffled ball gown.

Love, love, love.

Gwen Stefani in Atelier Versace

Before Gwen Stefani hit the red carpet I was despairing a little that I wouldn’t like any looks, I should have known that the No Doubt singer would bring her A-game. This black Atelier Versace jumpsuit is incredible and I quite agree with Gwen that it does look like an “artwork” with that asymmetrical, structured, sequinned bodice.

Adding her own personal stamp on the jumpsuit, I love that Gwen decided to tailor the trousers for a skinnier feel than the wide-legged version that went down the runway in Paris a few weeks ago. As well as loving the outfit I have to praise her flawless hair and make-up, I think she had the best beauty look of the night.

grammys-nicole-kidmanNicole Kidman in Mugler

Rocking a little black dress to the Grammys might seem a little boring, but put it on Nicole Kidman and it is pure elegance, and the perfect plus 1 attire. Normally I wouldn’t go for body-con dresses in my best dressed, but there is something about this Mugler LBD that I adore, maybe it is the fact that Nicole is working it, or the exquisite metal eyelets detailing throughout that added a rock-n-roll edge, I just really loved the fact it was sophisticated, fun and sexy all at the same time, without being too much. Also just for her amazing pins she had to make the list – simply stunning.

Grammys-taylor-swift

Taylor Swift in Elie Saab

One thing you are guaranteed with Taylor Swift is that she always has fun on the red carpet and she looked incredible in this custom teal ombre Elie Saab gown, teamed with purple Giuseppe Zanotti heels and emerald Lorraine Schwartz earrings. Normally I am not a fan of the mullet-dress, but the jewelled colour just popped beautifully, and her legs really do deserve to be shown off.

grammys-iggyIggy Azalea In Giorgio Armani

Rounding off my Grammys best dressed list has to be Iggy Azalea as she surprise the hell out of me, I don’t think I have ever seen her look this good before. Her custom electric blue Giorgio Armani silk-crepe gown was divine, tailored to perfection, and I really loved the subtle cut-out detailing on the sides, shoulders and towards the bottom of the gown at the front. This was sexy without trying too hard – her body really does look incredible in this gown. The only thing that lets this look down for me has to be the hair, why the crazy crown of braids, if she had gone for a sleek ponytail or bun I would have adore it, as everything else including her flawless make-up was perfection.

Exhibition: V&A – Wedding Dresses 1775-2014

Wedding-dresses-23

With the excitement of planning a wedding I was really looking forward to seeing the V&A’s latest fashion exhibition, Wedding Dresses 1775-2014, because who doesn’t love to look at wedding gowns, especially when they include dresses worn by Gwen Stefani, Kate Moss and Dita Von Teese.

Spanning across two floors, much like last year’s Ballgowns exhibit, I much prefer this space in the V&A than the one currently occupied by the Glamour of Italian Fashion, there is more space and the dresses really do make more of an impact. However, unlike the recent John Paul Gaultier display at the Barbican there isn’t anything special about this exhibition, well except the exquisitely crafted wedding gowns of course.

As much as I loved the history of the opening section exhibition, covering gowns from the last two centuries tracing the development of the white wedding dress, I wasn’t wowed by anything. I felt a lot of it had been covered before, the shapes and silhouettes of the dresses look like pieces out of the V&A archive, they just aren’t in white, and I wasn’t a fan of the inclusion of the Royal video, it would have been fine if the Duchess of Cambridge’s dress had been on display, it just felt a little bit of a tourist push to make the exhibition more popular with foreign visitors.

My favourite moment from the opening section was seeing socialite Margaret Whigham’s magnificent Norman Hartnell gown from when she married in 1933. Not only is this gown beautiful, a simple sheath dress with dramatic medieval-style hanging sleeves, but I loved how the 3.6 metre train was more sophisticated than dramatic – really suited the Thirties.

What I did love though was the mezzanine level featuring wedding garments from the last 50 years with an emphasis on the glamour and spectacle of weddings today, which of course includes celebrity weddings. Maybe it is because these dresses are more familiar, maybe it because they are lot more grande, or maybe it is just because they were laid out nicer, but seeing these gorgeous couture gowns up close was amazing.

The first dress you see when you come up the stairs is the divine purple Vivienne Westwood ballgown-style wedding dress that was custom-made for Burlesque star Dita Von Teese in 2005. Not only am I a huge fan of Dita’s but this gown is so special, not only is the colour exquisite, it really does shimmer, but I loved the drama and the styling with the Stephen Jones hat – it really is a wow factor dress.

The celebrity moments really did make this exhibition for me, seeing Gwen Stefani’s John Galliano for Dior spray-painted pink wedding dresses was more stunning than I it looked in pictures. The colour really worked with the dress’s asymmetric construction and the pairing of such a romantic veil – this is how you marry a traditional gown with a modern twist and I love it. Also I think Gwen had the best choice in shoes!!!

Another highlight was Ian Stuart’s Flower Bomb dress from 2011, I think this was because of its Southern Belle quality in the volume and drama of the skirt, my only wish was that it wasn’t trapped in a glass cabinet. Isn’t it beautiful, and I love the addition of the hat, for a bride who wants something a little different.

If you are a little wedding obsessed like me you will love this exhibition in parts, the modern dresses from the likes of Jenny Packham and Temperley London will have you gushing, but I think you might be a little disappointed not to see more couture.

Cover Loving: Gwen Stefani In Saint Laurent For Vogue

vogue-jan-gwen

Gwen Stefani is certainly having a moment when it comes to magazine covers. This year I have already gushed about her divine Harper’s Bazaar September issue, her abs on the Marie Claire cover, and her digital print mash-up on the October issue of ELLE UK wearing Peter Pilotto and McQ by Alexander McQueen. Well it seems American Vogue wanted to end the year on a high with the release of the January issue with Gwen wearing an ensemble from Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane’s spring/summer 2013 collection.

Captured by Annie Leibovitz this is a gorgeous cover. I love the pose on the piano, the ruffles, the sparkly jacket, the pop of red on her lips and even the oversized felt hat – this cover is so memorising that I can let them off for putting too many cover lines all over her.

What do you think of Gwen’s latest magazine cover?

Cover Loving: Gwen Stefani Shows Off Her Abs For Marie Claire US

I feel like i have stepped back in time ten years when my addiction for Gwen Stefani was at its peak as I am so pleased that the No Doubt singer is literally everywhere at the moment. I loved her Harper’s Bazaar cover, I completely adored the mix-matched styling of her ELLE UK cover, and it seems that the good times keep on rolling with this stunning cover from the American Marie Claire.

Each cover has represented a different side of Gwen, first we had glamour, then we had her quirky style, and now we have athletic Gwen – come on those are some amazing abs. I think a lot of women will be making this image their new gym inspiration snap on the fridge – I know I will be!!!

Shot by Peggy Sirota, the accompanying editorial sees Gwen wearing Jason Wu, Alice + Olivia, Belstaff, True Religion, Rag & Bone and Donna Karan looking simply stunning and in the interview she discusses her marriage, returning to the spotlight with a new No Doubt album, and wanting a third child.

See the rest of Gwen’s stunning pics and get a sneaky preview of her interview by heading on over to Marie Claire.

Cover Loving: Gwen Stefani For ELLE UK in McQ

I am still working my way through my September issues and the October covers are already being unveiled. September for me was all about Gwen Stefani, I love her cover for Harper’s Bazaar US, and it seems that October is going to follow suit as this is one of the best ELLE UK covers I have seen in a while.

Shot by Matt Irwin, Gwen looks incredible in this very high-fashion full of personality cover, I love the contrast of mixing the digital prints of Peter Pilotto with the flirty florals of the McQ by Alexander McQueen floral skirt. If you are thinking that the McQ looks a little familiar it is because I fell in love with the dress version at the press previews and adored it on Victoria Justice at the Met Gala.

For me the whole look gives the cover a 3D effect and I am sure even though I love it this cover is going to be a little like Marmite – you will either love or hate it.

I am desperate for my subscriber cover to drop through the letterbox, I am hoping that it isn’t just this image with the cover lines stripped off, I want more Gwen!!!

ELLE UK’s October issue will hit newsstands on September 5 will you be buying? Also do you think the mix-matched styling is a little too much or like me do you think Gwen can pull anything off?

UPDATED:

Yeah, my subscriber cover just arrived, and it is so what I was hoping it would be. This cover totally shows off why I love Gwen as she is fun, quirky, but still drop-dead sexy. This pose looks even better in the mix-match styling than the newsstand cover and I am so pleased. This is what the subscriber should be – different, unexpected but striking. I love, love, love it!!!

Which do you think is best newsstand or the subscriber version?

Cover Loving: Gwen Stefani for Harper’s Bazaar US

Finally, the Harper’s Bazaar US cover for September has been released. This is the one I have been waiting for and I am not disappointed Gwen Stefani is stunning and I am going to have to say it’s my favourite September cover.

As soon as I saw this girlie cover I actually swooned. I knew it would be amazing, I am a huge Gwen fan, and she looks gorgeous in this Jil Sander gown and amazing Alexis Mabille couture hat, but what I am super happy about is that they decided for girlie and glamorous rather than edgy and quirky.

To be honest the No Doubt singer really could pull off anything and I am so pleased that she wore one of my favourite Alexander McQueen gowns as well as this striking figure-hugging The Row leather dress. But the one picture that really made me squeal had to be seeing Gwen in this black Vera Wang bridal gown paired with elbow-length leather gloves and cute pink framed shades – how Barbie doll does she look – I would buy a Gwen Stefani Barbie in a heartbeat!!!

So what do you think of this Terry Richardson shot Harper’s Bazaar cover? Granted it is very text heavy, but this cover is what I was wanting to see from Victoria Beckham – it is very fashionable and eye-catching!

Check out the rest of Gwen’s amazing editorial on the Harper’s Bazaar’s website – there are some beauties of her wearing Versace, Oscar de la Renta and Diane von Furstenberg. I will be rushing to this issue come August 21 – will you?

Xmas 2011: The Last Ever Harajuku Lovers Fragrance

A couple of weeks back I went down to The Perfume Shop’s Christmas in July press day and tweeted about the last ever Harajuku Lovers fragrance, Jingle G. Well I have finally got my act together to blog about it *sorry for the delay peeps, especially @SamanthaA*.

I don’t know about you guys but I am super sad at the thought that this is the last ever fragrance from Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers collection. The festive mini, Jingle G, is a cutie with its notes of tangerine, orange blossom and vanilla, as well as doubling as a tree decoration. Love it , want it, need it!!

The scent hits stores September 21, priced £13 for a 10ml eau de toilette, which means it is a perfect stocking filler.

I will certainly be getting this beauty to sit alongside my other Harajuku Lovers, and I think I will have to start collecting the ones I missed starting with all these via The Perfume Shop!!
