Grammy Awards: Katy Perry In Valentino Couture

The Grammy’s were held last night in Los Angeles and as always I found the red carpet to be a little predictable – metallics, shimmering fabrics, tight, tight and a very tight, and the odd quirky look to showcase the musician on the red carpet.

One star I can generally depend on to wow me has to be Katy Perry, do you remember when she wore that gorgeous sky blue Elie Saab gown in 2012, well last night she was a vision in tulle wearing a stunning Valentino Couture gown that might look a little familiar, yep it is one that I featured on my Couture Bride post last week.

Other that the fact it was fresh off the runway, I love that it seemed to have been made for the Grammy Awards with the embroidered musical notes on the tulle skirt. It is fun, elegant and romantic all at the same time and it really does look like a work of art. Apparently this beautiful gown took 1,600 hours to do all the embroidery – the craftsmanship is sublime.

Not content with just one look from Valentino’s spring couture collection, Katy also looked incredible in a shorter red tulle with a feathered serpent to the after party. As much as I love the red carpet gown, and I do, I think this flirty number is my favourite – I love the rich colour of the dress and the snake motif. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!!katy-perry-grammys-valentinoMadonna-ralph-lauren

Another great look I just had to share was Madonna wearing a wide-leg Ralph Lauren tuxedo with a black felt gaucho hat, a sparkly fingerless glove, and a grill, yep if you saw her interview on E! she showed off her mouth jewellery.

If I can forget about the grill, as I hate them, I love, love, love this mannish look from Madonna. I am a huge fan of girlies in suits and this one will be remembered I am sure. Also no-one else works the red carpet like Madonna!!!

Were you a fan of Katy Perry’s and Madonna’s looks at last night’s Grammy Awards?

Grammys 2012: My Best Dressed – Rihanna and Katy

After being utterly bored by the BAFTA red carpet I wasn’t really in the mood to stay up and watch the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, I did however catch-up this morning and I have to be honest there were a lot of hits and twice as many misses – but this is kind of what I expected from the Grammys.

For me the best dressed has to go to either Rihanna’s show stopping black silk cady custom Giorgio Armani gown or Katy Perry’s sky blue Elie Saab gown from the spring/summer haute couture 2012 collection. If it came down to just the dresses I think Katy would win, but her Smurfette hair is really putting me off, but then again I am not that thrilled by Rihanna’s roots either.

What I love about Rihanna’s look, which she co-designed with Armani is that it fitted her body perfectly, everything about this dress is sexy from the plunging neckline to the thigh-high split, to the dramatic open back and the mermaid silhouette into an elegant train – taking inspiration from Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface obviously works for RiRi as this is one great red carpet look.

On the other hand there is Katy Perry looking elegant in this exquisite fully-embroidered backless floral Elie Saab creation. Everything is divine from the colour to the simple ribbon belt, to the gorgeous floral appliqués, and I do love it when Katy does princess rather than quirky. If only her hair was elegant this would have be a clear winner for me.

A special mention has to go to both Fergie in this vibrant orange lace Jean Paul Gaultier couture gown from the spring/summer 2012 collection, hot off the Paris catwalk and Gwyneth Paltrow in a black cut-out Stella McCartney dress with gold belt from Stella’s Evening Collection for both looking absolutely incredible – seriously crazy hot bodies.

I know everyone isn’t going to love Fergie’s bold catwalk-to-red carpet look complete with black bra and big pants but I love that she totally went for it – and come on you all have to admit she is totally working this dress.

GRAMMY Awards: Kate Hudson in Vintage Roberto Cavalli

Who: Kate Hudson

Where: At the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles

Wearing: A navy floor-skimming vintage Roberto Cavalli gown with cut-out detailing, long sleeves and gold detailing to the side

Verdict: I know that Kate is only probably about 3 months pregnant but she looks amazing in this vintage Cavalli gown. Navy really is going through a bit of a revival, it seems to be everywhere, and I likey!! This gown is all about the cut-out detailing, and I like the scalloped trim to the sleeves, such a great touch.

Seriously I wish I was Kate, always so stunning.

GRAMMY Awards: Miley Cyrus Shimmers in Roberto Cavalli

Who: Miley Cyrus

Where: At the 53rd Grammy Awards at Staples Center in Los Angeles

Wearing: An floor-skimming fully sequinned animal print Roberto Cavalli gown from the spring/summer 2011 collection, teamed with lots of bangles

Verdict: This is a very grown-up look from Miley. I am not completely sure that I like this look. I think it is a bit too old fashioned for her. I would have liked to have seen her in something a little more fun and flirty, age appropriate.

GRAMMYs: Selena Gomez in J. Mendel

Who: Selena Gomez

Where: At the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards

Wearing: A liquid silver velvet bias cut slip J. Mendel gown with chiffon inserts

Verdict: Seriously Selena is all grown-up. This is a gorgeous dress, it has an old-Hollywood feel about it and I love the fact she kept her hair down adds extra glamour that this dress most certainly deserves.

Grammy Noms: Katy Perry – Gold Lady In Georges Chakra

Who: Singer Katy Perry

Where: Backstage during The Grammy Nominations Concert Live – Countdown to the Music’s Biggest Night event at Club Nokia in Los Angeles

Wearing: A gorgeous gold sequinned Georges Chakra boat neck couture gown from the AW10 collection paired with Brian Atwood Maniac heels

Verdict: With four nominations in the bag, Katy really does look stunning in this just-below-the-knee gown, it moulds perfectly to her tiny frame. This look has an old-Hollywood glamour about it, with the dress falling off-the-shoulders and her Rita Hayworth hair – sheer elegance. I am also loving that she paired this dress with my favourite *and it seems every celebrity* Brian Atwood heels – perfection!!

Can’t wait for the 53rd annual Grammy Awards on February 13.
