Golden Globes 2015: Naomi Watts In Gucci

Who: Naomi Watts

Where: At the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California

Wearing: A chartreuse yellow silk strapless column Gucci gown with a draped bodice and crystal-detailed belt teamed with a statement Bulgari snake necklace

Verdict: It seems that Naomi Watts always gets it right for award season and this bold canary yellow gown is gorgeous and looks stunning on her.

What I love about this gown, other than the fab colour, which was one of the trends of the night, has to be the vintage vibe of the strapless dress with the ruched bodice and the diamond encrusted belt. I really think the whole styling on the look makes it perfect, from the red lippy to the statement Bulgari necklace, and the soft waves to her hair.

I really like this look, a few of my Twitter followers felt the reptile choker was too much, I thought it added just the right amount of drama to the look.

Does Naomi Watts make your best dressed list?

Golden Globes 2015: Amy Adams In Atelier Versace

Who: Golden Globe-winning actress Amy Adams

Where: At the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California

Wearing: A custom-made, one-shoulder Atelier Versace gown in periwinkle embellished with a Swarovski crystal detail on the back, teamed with Tiffany jewellery

Verdict: As soon as I saw Amy Adams hit the red carpet I was blown away, I was floored not only by the colour, I am a little obsessed with this dusky blue/grey hue against her red hair, but the exquisite draping is just pure elegance.

A lot of my Twitter followers felt that this look was safe, but for me I loved the elegance and sophistication, I was actually a little surprised that Versace could design a dress that wasn’t overly sexy, instead it has a confidence about it that Amy just rocked and look gorgeous in.

What do you think – did Amy play it safe?

Award Season: How To Achieve Anne Hathaway’s Flawless Make-Up

Anne-hathaway-chanel-face

Each award season my fascinated with the red carpet grows, not only with regards what the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman are wearing, (if you missed my earlier post check out the trends of the Golden Globes here), but also with their make-up as each year it seems to get more and more refined and flawless.

One of my favourite looks of this year’s Golden Globes had to be Anne Hathaway, who not only looked gorgeous in Chanel Haute Couture but she also complemented her gown with a flawless complexion, which her Chanel make-up artist Kate Lee described as wanting her to “appear as if lit from within”.

To create the look, Chanel and Kate Lee have released the make-up used and how to achieve this flawless, elegant look, everything from the skincare to the shade used on her lips.

First Kate prepped Anne’s skin with Chanel Hydra Beauty Serum followed by Chanel Base Lumière Illuminating make-up base, and then used Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting foundation to keep the skin looking radiant, and then a small amount of Chanel Perfection Lumière was applied where needed.

Then a “light sweeping touch” of Poudre Signée de Chanel Illuminating Powder was used on Anne’s cheekbones to “illuminate her bone structure”, as well as along the clavicle and over the shoulder blades. Then on the apple of the cheek, a pale peach blush was used to contrast the lip colour.

For Anne’s eyes, Kate defined her eye socket with Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Fauve, which she describes as “a delicious grey/lilac shade”, on the lid and along the base of the lower lashes. Then her lashes were curled and given a coat of Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir, and to make her lashes look luscious a selection of lashes were added for a “customised shape”.

Finishing off her look, and my favourite bit, “the perfect pink for a perfect pout”, Kate applied Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Seduisante.

As red carpet make-up goes, this is simple, but so, so elegant and I love it – I have put together the key pieces from the look below so why not try it out yourself.

Award Season: Beauty – How To Get Golden Globe Worthy Pins

lea-michele-elie-saab

Lea Michele in Elie Saab

One of the biggest trends at this year’s Golden Globes was a thigh-high split, with stars including Lea Michele, Miranda Kerr, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, and Eva Longoria embracing the trend and adding a touch of glamour to the red carpet with their smooth pins.

But how do these beauties get thigh-high split worthy legs? Well I’ve been chatted with Venus and Braun Beauty Nathalie Eleni to find out her tips on achieving smooth legs worthy of a red carpet.

De-Fuzz: First step is by achieving smooth, hair free skin, which means investing in a Braun Silk-épil 7 Epilator, which according to Nathalie is the best tool for long-lasting hair-removal as it “gently removes hair directly from the root as short as a 0.5mm” and it can be done ahead of the main event.

But what if you have missed a spot, which happens to be all the time, don’t worry Nathalie says, “for last minute touch ups on the night, I always make sure I carry a Venus razor in my kit bag”.

Exfoliate: Once legs are hair free then you have to get your scrub on, yes I am being literal, I can’t recommend exfoliating legs more, especially during winter, and Nathalie agrees, “concentrate on your knees, exfoliating them to remove dry skin and ensuring you use a rich body cream to prevent any gray tinges or discolouration”.

I love: Soap & Glory, Flake Away, £7 – as well as making my legs super smooth it smells incredible.

Tan: Showing that much leg means that pasty white is probably not the best idea, so now that your skin is all prepped you can add a summery glow, Nathalie suggest “using a subtle, self-tanning mousse which can be easily applied with little or no fuss at all”.

I love: I am not great at self-tanning but I do love a glow on my legs and my favourite has to be St.Tropez Perfect Legs, £10 – it easy to use and when I get a little close it blends really well.

Next, to help create the illusion of beautifully long, celeb-worthy legs, use a gold-based illuminating cream.  Nathalie suggests massaging “from the top of your legs, down to the shins to lengthen the appearance and enhance their shape”.

I love: Soap & Glory, Glow Lotion, £5.50 – which not only smells great but adds a subtle shimmer to your pins.

Imperfections: If like me you are covered in bruises, Nathalie says “hide any imperfections by dabbing on some concealer and finish with a light dusting of bronzer. Go for a soft, shimmery powder that is couple of shades darker than your natural skin colour. Use a lighter coloured shimmer for your shins, dusting gently down the front of your legs for a celebrity sheen”.

Four easy steps to great legs – now how do I go about getting a red carpet worthy gown to go with them!!!

Award Season: Golden Globes 2013 – The Trends

Lucy Lui, Carolina Herrera, Golden GlobesThere is always something special about the Golden Globes, granted it will never live up to the glamour of The Oscars, but I do like seeing the best of the silver screen next to the stars of the small screen, who we generally don’t see out on the red carpet as much.

This year was an interesting red carpet, there weren’t many bad looks, unless you agreed with me about Jessica Chastain, but unlike previous year’s there wasn’t many wow moments either, which made it a little uninspiring, some people on Twitter said they thought it was a little boring.

There was lots I loved – Jennifer Garner all glammed up was nice to see, Claire Danes looked incredible, her personal trainer should get an award, and I was pleased to see Megan Fox back on the red carpet. When it comes to who was my best dressed I am going to have to go for Lucy Lui, the drama of her incredible Carolina Herrera gown completely blew me away.

As well as enjoying seeing the gorgeous dresses on the red carpet I also like to talk about the trends and this year seemed to be all about colour – whether red, black or neutral tones, plus something I couldn’t miss was a few sexy ladies doing their own tribute to Angelina Jolie, it seems her leg bombing pose has really caught on!!!

All Shades Of Red:

Golden Globes 2013
Red always makes a statement on the red carpet especially during award season but this year’s Golden Globes really did deliver ever shade of red possible, from the vibrant red shade of Claire Danes’ Versace number to the cherry Dior beauty that Jennifer Lawrence, to the darker shades of Zooey Deschanel’s Oscar de la Renta and Jennifer Garner’s burgundy Vivienne Westwood. This was definitely the star power shade of the night.

Neutral and Girlie:

Golden-globes-2013-neutralNeutral tones were stunning at this year’s awards – from blush tones such as Megan Fox’s tight and lacy Dolce & Gabbana gown to Downton Abbey’s Michelle Dockery, who wore a cream column Alexandre Vauthier gown with gold leaf embroidered bodice, which reminded me of an Alexander McQueen. Then there was Emily Blunt who looked sexy in a gold metallic lace chain embroidered cutout Michael Kors, white the pure girlie vibes were brought by Hayden Panettiere in Roberto Cavalli and Isla Fisher in her embroidered Reem Acra. Normally I don’t get excited by nude, cream and blush tones but this year I like all the added touches of subtle embellishment, layering, mermaid trains, and intricate lace.

Modern Whites:Golden-globes-2013-white

Last award season white walking down the red carpet was a little too bridal for me, this year white has been given a modern make-over. There was Anne Hathaway wearing an elegant Chanel Couture column gown, Amanda Seyfried looked stunning in a gorgeous embroidered Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci, and then there was Julianne Hough in a frothy Monique Lhullier, and Kerry Washington in a sheer and lacy Miu Miu dress, each really stood out among the bold red and black numbers.

Film Noir:golden-globes-2013-black

Black on the red carpet is generally seen as a little boring, even I have been negative about some stars constantly wearing of the colour, but this year’s Golden Globes really showed that black isn’t always boring. We had sexy black with Kate Hudson in Alexander McQueen and Allison Williams in J.Mendel, then we had flattering and slimming with Julianne Moore in a custom-made Tom Ford and Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen, and then we had touches of sheer with Julianna Margulies in a daring beaded Emilio Pucci and Rachel Weisz accompanied James Bond in a dotty Louis Vuitton.

Leg Bombing:

golden-globes-2013-angiesleEnding off my trends report is what I am calling Leg Bombing, as even though Angelina Jolie might not have been in attendance at this year’s awards her dramatic leg pose certainly was from the ladies with thigh-high slits. While Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Saint Laurent and Lea Michele in a sequinned Elie Saab went for subtle leg action, the sexy Halle Berry in Atelier Versace and Eva Longoria in a lace and chiffon Emilio Pucci gown certainly brought the attitude to the pose. They are all giving Angie a run for her money!!!

So what did you think about this year’s Golden Globes red carpet fashion? Leave me a comment below on who was your best dressed.

Golden Globes 2013: Jennifer Garner In Vivienne Westwood Couture

jennifer-garner-vwestwood

Who: Jennifer Garner

Where: At the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California

Wearing: A strapless dark red Vivienne Westwood Couture Riding dress featuring a sweetheart neckline and embroidered sequinned detailing and a train, teamed with David Webb jewellery and Salvatore Ferragamo heels

Verdict: I have to own up I love, love, love Jennifer Garner as I am a huge Alias fan, Sydney Bristow and her many wigs and kick arse attitude totally ruled, but more than that I just think she oozes glamour when she hits the red carpet, which sadly isn’t as often as I would like.

Last night at the Golden Globes, out supporting her hubbie Ben Affleck, I thought she looked incredible in this Vivienne Westwood couture gown. Everything about the look totally worked for me – from the deep red shade to the intricate embroidered sequinned design that just shimmered beautifully on TV to her chic up-do and gorgeous gold jewellery.

I have a total girl crush!!!
