Met Gala 2013 Buzz: So Who’s Taking Who???

Diana kruger prada Met Gala 2013 Buzz: So Whos Taking Who??? %tagEach year after the Oscars and the award season has finished I have to admit I go through a little lull when it comes to red carpet appearances, premieres are fine but they just don’t have the glamour of a big award show, which is why I am always pleased when May comes around as it has two big fashion events – the Cannes Film Festival and the Met Gala.

This coming Monday, May 6, the very best in fashion will be strutting their stuff in celebration of Met’s Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibition, and I love that the red carpet event is kind of a mash-up of the Oscars and fashion week, where designers showcase their very best gowns with most specially created for the event, on some of the biggest stars. It always seems to bring glamour and drama and some of the best looks of the year.

Last year was a Prada affair thanks to Miuccia Prada being co-chair, Diane Kruger in that gorgeous purple gown is still one of my favourite Met Gala looks, well this year is bound to be all about Givenchy as Riccardo Tisci is on the panel and his co-chair is Rooney Mara.

As well as enjoying the red carpet, I love the anticipation and lead-up to the event, guessing what people will wear, and who’s dressing who, which means for the week before I am addicted to WWD, the NY Post and the New York Times – they always have the best scoops.

So want to know the latest rumours? Well I have put down some of my favs below:

  • Tommy Hilfiger has announced that his table will be filled with a rather odd mix including Zooey Deschanel, Nicki Minaj, Lily Aldridge, Thalia Mottola, Debbie Harry and Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill – I can’t imagine Nicki Minaj in TH!
  • Jennifer Lopez will be a Michael Kors girl for the night – I can’t wait to see this
  • Iron Man’s Gwyneth Paltrow is going with Valentino – I wonder if her look will top her sexy Prada mini from last year?
  • There are no surprises regarding who Dior is taking – Oscar winning-actress Jennifer Lawrence and French beauty Marion Cotillard – I am just hoping for something customised
  • One of my most interesting reports is that Alexander Wang is designing a custom Balenciaga look for Julianne Moore – that’s going to be amazing
  • Sienna Miller is apparently attending with Burberry, well no surprise as she is rumoured to be the label’s new face
  • Diane von Furstenberg is taking Emma Roberts
  • Jessica Alba is set to attend with Tory Burch
  • Topshop is getting in on the action again with Jaime King, plus the retailer is taking Julianne Hough
  • Elizabeth Banks is going with Brian Atwood – so we can be assured her shoes will be hot

No word on whether anyone will be wearing Donna Karan, Prada, Versace, Alexander McQueen, or Elie Saab, or even if Nina Dobrev, Anne Hathaway, Diane Kruger or Sarah Jessica Parker will be attending – I have all my fingers and toes crossed!!!

If I hear anything I will be sure to keep you updated via my Twitter and Facebook pages.

Who are you excited about seeing and who do you want to attend?

Cover Loving: Kati Nescher In Givenchy For British Vogue

vogue feb 2013 Cover Loving: Kati Nescher In Givenchy For British Vogue %tag

It looks like Vogue didn’t get the memo about using an actress on the cover of their February issue, instead they’ve gone for a Kate Middleton look-a-likey, better known as Russian model Kati Nescher.

It seems Vogue is all about the models, which I like, and for the second month in a row, Kati follows fellow model Kate Lupton on the cover, which looks set to continue next month, as rumours are circulating that Cara Delevingne will grace the March issue.

I have to be honest I am not hundred percent sold on this cover shot by Patrick Demarchelier. I love the gorgeous Givenchy dress, monochrome with ruffles – totally adore, I even love the side-on pose, the elegance, and the red taglines, and I have to salute Vogue for going with a model.

But, what I am not loving is how the styling of the hair seems to have aged poor Kati, maybe they took the Princess Kate reference a little too far, but for me it doesn’t work with the ‘modern glamour’ tagline. Plus is anyone else a little distracted by her ear???

Maybe I have to see it in person to fully appreciate – what do you think of Vogue’s February cover?

Les Misérables: Anne Hathaway In Givenchy

Anne Hathaway givenchy Les Misérables: Anne Hathaway In Givenchy %tagWho: Actress Anne Hathaway

Where: At the Les Misérables World Premiere in London

Wearing: A white off-the-shoulder beaded Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown from the spring/summer 2012 collection, featuring draped sleeves, dramatic neckline and a plunging open back

Verdict: Well after I got over the shock of seeing Anne Hathaway sporting such a dramatic couture gown – seriously what a contrast to yesterdays blog post about her fun cover shoot with Glamour, I was quietly pleased.

I am sure for some they won’t like this Givenchy gown on Anne, but I love that she went for something daring, but I do wonder how much convincing Rachel Zoe her stylist had to do. But come whether you like this gown on Anne you have to admit this look deserved to be showed off.

What I love is that her pixie hair cut that she has been getting to grips with over the past few months really works with this dress, it allows the gown with its off-the-shoulder and backless detailing really shine, and I am so pleased that she went for bright ruby lips – completes her movie starlet look.

This is sure to divide critics - but what do you think love or hate Anne’s dramatic look?

Paris Couture AW12: Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci

givenchy Paris Couture AW12: Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci %tag

Wow, wow, wow!!!

I have to own up I am a huge fan of Givenchy and Riccardo Tisci, the Resort 2013 with its gypsy vibe was simply perfection, and it seems the gypsy is still an inspiration for the Haute Couture autumn/winter 2012 collection, which is described as “the opulence of the gypsy world meets the pure lines of the 1960s” in the presentation notes, which translated by me equals as utterly divine.

What I am loving other than the gorgeous collection of 10 floor-length silhouettes, which have a dark and powerful vibe about them, especially when they are all stood together with a guard dog as their accessory, has to be all the intricate leather embroidery and the beaded fringing.

If you are after couture, seriously Givenchy has to be one of the first places to go, as what I love is the fashion houses’ incredible attention to detailing and its use of use rich and elaborate materials, as well as its stunning approach to styling. Seriously how cool do the oversized mask-like gold-rimmed shades look – perfect finish for Riccardo’s gypsy queens!!!

I am not sure what is more beautiful the collection or that gorgeous dog – what a stunner!!!

AW12 Campaign: The Intense Givenchy Rave

AW12Givenchy4 AW12 Campaign: The Intense Givenchy Rave %tag

Oooh I do love something a little different, and this autumn/winter 2012 ad campaign from Givenchy certainly is a little different. Styled by Carine Roitfeld and shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott this is a stunning campaign aptly named the ‘Rave’.

Starring Tisci’s favs Stella Tennant and Joan Smalls, as well as Daniela Braga, Stef Van Der Laan, Rodrigo Braga, Simone Nobili and Jarrod Scott, the models get their dance on to spectacular results.

What I love most about this campaign has to be the intensity of the images, from the stormy skies to the urban setting and the striking androgynous styling. This is definitely going to be one of the most memorable ad campaigns of the season, and I can’t wait to see it in print.

Resort 2013: Givenchy Bring Us The Modern Gypsy

Resort2013Givenchy2 Resort 2013: Givenchy Bring Us The Modern Gypsy %tag

Scarf prints that we saw in D&G’s last ever collection and that are embracing the high street for spring/summer 2012 aren’t going anywhere as Riccardo Tisci brought his gypsy vibe to the streets of New York for his resort collection. The gorgeous collection is filled with the striking scarf motifs of paisley printed patchworks on silk satin, twill and jersey, mixed with geometric blocks in colours of black, white and red, creating divine eye-catching statement pieces.

It seems that the modern nomadic travelling woman is all about mixing and matching and likes a clean-cut architectural silhouette, I think this is the best ‘urban couture’ I have ever seen. I loved the mix of the long-flowing belted eveningwear dresses, which featured long-sleeves slit all the way to the shoulders, creating a cape-like effect, which continued on the tops and outerwear, alongside slouchy billowing sarouel pants that were teamed with Givenchy’s signature tailored pieces such as the boxy jacket and shirts.

The collection was complemented with strong accessories from boxy shaped handbags to small clutches, and the footwear featured everything from open-toe high gladiator boots to high-heeled loafers and ankle-strap sandals that I am sure will be gracing the red carpet soon.

I also loved the large geometric belts, the sculptural rings, and of course the New York street-style shoot, how cute is that fluffy dog!!!Resort2013Givenchy1 Resort 2013: Givenchy Bring Us The Modern Gypsy %tag

Cannes 2012: Diane Kruger Looking Girlie In Calvin Klein

DianeCalvinKlein Cannes 2012: Diane Kruger Looking Girlie In Calvin Klein %tag
Who: Actress & 2012 Cannes Film Festival Juror Diane Kruger

Where: At Calvin Klein’s women in film event in Cannes

Wearing: A coral textured midi Calvin Klein Collection dress with a plunging neckline, that was modified from the autumn/winter 2012 collection it was presented in black; finishing her look were white Givenchy strappy heels and a metallic box clutch

Verdict: The first thing I noticed and I am sure everyone else did as well has to be her boobs they look incredible in this dress without making her look tacky, which is hard to do when they are completely on show like this. I love the colour, I love the midi length on her, the silhouette is sweet, and her heels are insane and work perfectly with the dress, but it doesn’t feel enough for Cannes.

Don’t get me wrong she does look stunning, and I am loving her slick ponytail, but this dress is just nice, and nice just isn’t enough for Cannes. Am I being extra picky? I feel that if this was any other party, photocall, or premiere I probably would have loved it but something is holding me back – what do you think is this look a winner?
