Golden Globes 2013: Thandie Newton In Giles

Who: Thandie Newton

Where: At the Golden Globe Awards 2013, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California

Wearing: A lavender lace GILES mini-dress embellished with Swarovski crystals from the spring/summer 2013 collection, teamed with matching coloured ankle-strap heels and a silver box clutch

Verdict: While most went for floor-sweeping gowns Thandie showed off her fabulous pins in this sexy mini dress by British designer Giles Deacon.

Normally I would feel that this dress was probably suited to the People’s Choice Awards or MTV Movie Awards but for some reason I really thought it worked. Maybe it is because it is Thandie, who is known for taking risks on the red carpet, or maybe I am just being bias as it is a London Fashion Week designer but I really love this mini-dress.

The colour is divine, there was a lot of nude, red and black, so this lavender lace number really stood out, then there is the length if anyone can go short it is Thandie – her legs are incredible, and then there are the Swarovski sparkles.

For me this mini had just enough glitz for it to work at a big award ceremony – what do you think?

Disney Love: Minnie Mouse Is Coming To LFW

Last season Barbie came to London Fashion Week thanks to her collaboration with Sister by Sibling well it seems for spring/summer 2013 the hot trend is sure to be Minnie Mouse ears and polka dots as some of the hottest designers around have teamed up with the Disney’s most famous style icon, Minnie Mouse.

Minnie is one lucky cartoon character, she has a range of nail varnishes with OPI and Mawi created a range of jewellery inspired by her iconic silhouette, and come September she is set to get her own fashion collection designed by the likes of Giles Deacon (above), Richard Nicoll and Michael Van Der Ham, which Disney is calling ‘Minnie Mouse Must Haves’, one-off garments and accessories that will be presented during London Fashion Week.

Each designer has taken Minnie Mouse as their inspiration, so think lots of signature bows, her trademark polka dots, pops of red, as well as her iconic ears. Other designers taking part include Piers Atkinson, Bunney, Husam el Odeh in collaboration with Luke Hersheson, Katie Hillier, Lulu Guinness, Tatty Devine and Terry de Havilland. Plus there will be an “extraordinary collaboration” with Meadham Kirchhoff, the design duo known for their quirky catwalk shows – oh my I simply can not wait!!!!

All the sketches are gorgeous and have made me excited to see them in person, but I think I have to give it to Richard Nicoll and Michael Van Der Ham, their designs are whimsical and gorgeous. I am loving Nicoll’s statement ‘Minnie’ ear shoulders and the comic-book strip design, but I am a sucker for a sequinned Minnie silhouette and this one from Van Der Ham looks divine and I love that he went for black and gold rather than the traditional red. I am also glad to see Lulu Guinness designing a one-off bag and I can’t wait to see Terry de Havilland’s Minnie shoes.

Following the ‘Inspired by Minnie Mouse’ showcase, each of the ‘Minnie Mouse Must Haves’ will be available at an exclusive eBay auction, so if your bid is the highest you could come away with a fab one-off Minnie Mouse-inspired creation. Proceeds from the auction will be donated by Disney to support the BFC/Bazaar Fashion Arts Foundation, a British Fashion Council initiative.

Roll on London Fashion Week…not long to go now!!!

Golden Globes: Dianna Agron A Swan Song In Giles

Who: Glee star Dianna Agron

Where: At the 69th Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles

Wearing: A red Giles Deacon gown with laser-cut swans on the bodice and tiered skirt from the spring/summer 2012 collection, paired with Fred Leighton earrings, bracelets and a ring

Verdict: Dianna described the swans as “incredible details” and I quite agree. I know that for some critics this dress has too much going on but that’s why I like it, Giles is all about the exquisite detailing and this is one beautiful gown. I also like that she went for someone that isn’t an obvious red carpet choice – she certainly stands out and I hope more starlets follow suit and work different designers at events like this.

What do you think of this Giles dress?

LFW SS12: Swarovski Collective Names Designers

I have to admit I am getting very excited about London Fashion Week now, especially after popping along to Swarovski’s Champagne tea to announce which designers have been drafted into add Swarosvki sparkles to their collections.

Sadly, Nadja Swarovski had a few problems with the traffic and didn’t make it on time, but it was still good to catch up with the very chilled J.W. Anderson who was wearing the most amazing trousers, spy Giles Deacon across the packed room, and to check out the jewellery dressing the amazing room at the Haymarket Hotel.

This season’s sponsorship programme will include Craig Lawrence, J.W. Anderson, Erdem’s Erdem Moralioglu, Mary Katrantzou who previously studded her printed skirts with crystals, Giles Deacon,  and Marios Schwab who has added pearls to his dresses in previous collections.

One of the most exciting for me has to be Craig Lawrence, I met him in Paris and saw his work up close and it is amazing. I am looking forward to see how he incorporates Swarovski elements into his designs, which can include crystal yarn, Swarovski pearls and even elastic crystal netting. Also Giles is apparently working his Swarovski crystals onto leather and feathers, which has left me intrigued to see his collection.

As well as aiding LFW designers, the Swarovski Collective is also supporting six New York-based designers including my fav Rebecca Minkoff, Jason Wu and Rodarte, as well as two in Paris Thierry Mugler and Viktor & Rolf.

Shoelaborations: Sophie Theallet for Nine West

Nine West launched a new creative platform this week named Shoelaborations, not only do I love the name, but I adore who they chose as the first designer – Sophie Theallet.

The Sophie Theallet for Nine West collection tells the story of “Sophie from Paris Takes a Trip to NYC”, which means instantly I am sold, I love Paris and New York. Then I saw the pieces and I think I actually squealed slightly, and I love Sophie’s take on summer essentials.

The line for spring/summer 2011 includes: a ballet flat, a double platform sandal, a raffia wedge *above – completely divine*, two satchels, as well as a charm necklace and bracelet *want, want, want!!*.

How cute is the girl and the Eiffel tower charms? So amazing – and if your initals are ST then this bracelet is so made for you.

“Partnering with a well-established footwear and accessories business such as Nine West has given me the opportunity to live out my life-long dream of designing on a larger scale. I was able to take one of my favorite patterns and create a collection that captures both my design aesthetic and the spirit of the Nine West brand.” Sophie Theallet.

The collection will be available globally, but in limited distribution to the top Nine West stores, but it will also be sold online, so keep an eye out from May. Pricing is also very reasonable, $36 – $109 for a double platform sandal or espadrille. UK prices haven’t been released.

But this collaboration will get better come autumn as Giles Deacon is the second designer to take part. I can’t wait!!

Cover Loving: Abbey Clancy For Glamour UK

Pic: Glamour UK - February 2011

I have been wanting to share this Glamour UK February cover all week, I have been crazy, but it is worth waiting for as it has such fun and quirky styling.

This a fun new look for Abbey Clancy *a stark contrast to her WAG status*, and she looks amazing in this Giles jumper. I know she did Giles Deacon’s show in September but come on Abbey is more lads mag than fashion rag isn’t she? But hey, so nice to see Giles on the cover!!
