Oscars 2015: Emma Stone In Elie Saab

Who: Emma Stone

Where: At the 87th Annual Academy Awards held at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California

Wearing: A custom long-sleeve beaded chartreuse Elie Saab gown embroidered with guipure and sequins, featuring an open back and a thigh-high slit, paired with matching green heels and a Tiffany & Co. cuff

Verdict: Emma Stone made us wait for her red carpet appearance tonight, but it was so worth it. The colour was different, this shade of green doesn’t often hit the red carpet, and I think this may be Elie Saab’s best Oscar moment since Halle Berry.

For some on my Twitter they were saying the embroidered beading aged the actress, I couldn’t disagree more, I thought this dress was Emma’s princess moment, it was fitted to her beautifully, and I think the gown had a modern quality to it while oozing old Hollywood glamour that I love so much.

As always her hair and make-up was gorgeous, I love her wavy bob and her vibrant lippy.

I think this is easily one of my favourites of the night.

Film Independent Spirit Awards: My Three Best Dressed Actresses

spirit-awards-red-carpetThe Film Independent Spirit Awards rarely disappoints, I’m not taking about the winner’s of the awards, but of the red carpet, I love that the actresses opt for more relaxed looks than we are going to see at the Oscars. Fashion should be fun and I do adore that it is always such a stark contrast from the up-coming Oscars. I know I am all about full-on gowns, but I can appreciate that this award show has a different vibe and it gives the actresses a chance to try out something new.

First look I loved has to be Julianne Moore in this vibrant green embellished Christian Dior spring/summer 2015 Couture mini. I love the colour, green is so great on her, the Sixties vibes of the shift silhouette as well as the heavy all-over beading. This is a class look, it is dressy with all the sparkles, while still be fun and experimental.

Next up is, I can’t wear anything not god-dam cool, Emma Stone, who just looks incredible in this gorgeous midnight guipure lace Monique Lhuillier a-line dress with cap sleeves and cut-out inserts from the autumn/winter 2015 collection. Basically, this dress is hot off the runway, and Emma is rocking the hell out it. I am a huge fan of hers, she always seems to go for girlie and sweet, while still having a cool edge and this is another great look from her. I have high hopes for tomorrow at the Oscars.

Kerry-washington-balenciaga

So my final best dressed look has to be Kerry Washington. I have to own up, I am addicted to Scandal so I am pretty much obsessed with Kerry, and even though I do think that this Balenciaga spring/summer 2015 dress might be a little too dressy for the Spirit Awards I had to include as she is so back to her best on the red carpet. Kerry has had a little dry patch on the red carpet lately, but this look shows that she is back to her best, I love how unusual neckline, the gorgeous embellished detailing around the hips, and the sheer sleeves are just divine. Come on whether this is too dressy or not, this dress deserved a red carpet.

Red Carpet: SAG Awards 2015 – Best Dressed

So this award season hasn’t really blown me away, the Golden Globes and the Critics’ Choice Awards were OK, there were a few standout looks but nothing to be honest that you would remember for years to come, and it seems the SAG Awards held the same fate, the red carpet was filled with “nice” gowns. But for me nice doesn’t really have a place on the red carpet, I want to see drama, high fashion risks and creative designs. The only thing I can hope for is that all the major fashion houses are holding back on their gorgeous gowns for the Oscars next month, otherwise this could be one of the most disappointing award seasons on record.

OK, so I am being a little over dramatic, I just love the award season red carpet so much, it rivals Cannes for exquisite gowns and I love it when my favourite actresses really bring it. Normally I am a huge fan of the SAG Awards red carpet, mainly because the big stars seem more relaxed and happy to be there, but I felt last night the award show was missing some big A-list names that always kill it in the fashion stakes such as Diane Kruger, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Lawrence, Emily Blunt and Jennifer Lopez.

Saying all that I did love some looks, namely Emma Stone, Julianne Moore and Reese Witherspoon, who actually made the Golden Globes red carpet as well, there were also some great choices by Downton Abbey girls Joanne Froggatt and Laura Carmichael, as well as some stunning Donna Karen Atelier gowns worn by Camila Alves and Sofia Vergara, plus some improved outings from Kaley Cuoco, Keira Knightley and Felicity Jones, all of which grace my red carpet Pinterest board, but I have to confess I was still a little underwhelmed by Jennifer Aniston’s vintage Galliano gown, which no doubt everyone else is raving about, for me is was a little too much boob, but I do think her body is looking better than ever.

So here you have it my five best dressed ladies from the 2015 SAG Awards:

Emma Stone in Christian Dior Couture

I am really enjoying seeing Emma Stone have a lot of fun on the red carpet and I love how she really brings a menswear-inspired edge to proceedings. I loved her Golden Globes Lanvin look but this Dior Couture tuxedo-style dress with a sheer skirt and sweeping train really makes that outfit look boring. I love that she went for drama, sex appeal and fun in her look and as always she is the coolest girl in town. I really think that her partnership with stylist Petra Flannery is on fire and I have high expectations for the Oscars.

Julianne Moore in Givenchy Couture

I am loving Julianne Moore’s love affair with Givenchy, they really do seem like a team made for one another, and this is another gorgeous gown. OK, so this isn’t the most original look, a redhead wearing green, or Julianne wearing sequins or a column gown, but saying all that I still love its drama and the fact it made a statement on last night’s SAG Awards red carpet when most did not.

I know some people on Twitter were saying that they wish she had done something more with her hair but I love that she has this minimalistic vibe when it comes to her hair and make-up, plus I adore those purple stone earrings she is wearing.

Reese Witherspoon in custom Giorgio Armani

There is something about Reese Witherspoon on the red carpet, she doesn’t always go for the edgiest of designs or even the raciest, but she always looks incredible, and I love this white custom Giorgio Armani gown. White for me on the red carpet can sometimes seem too bridal or not very flattering but there is something so elegant about this one-shoulder design with its matte sequin detailing along the neckline and shoulder that makes it beautiful.

Add to that her flawless body, stunning hair and make-up, I am a huge fan of a ponytail done right on the red carpet, and all those sparkling Harry Winston jewels and it really does make for a gorgeous look and did you see the back – that scoop is pure perfection.

Camila Alves in Donna Karen Atelier

Donna Karen really had a great SAG Awards with Emilia Clarke, Sofia Vergara and Camila Alves all looking absolutely stunning, and I am sure for most Sofia will get the best dressed nod because she wasn’t wearing a stiff-looking mermaid-style gown, but for me Camila Alves looked a knockout in this strapless aubergine gown that was tailored to perfection to show off her incredible body.

If this gown had been in black, like a lot of looks were last night, I would have been bored – it is the colour of this dress, as well as her beauty that really makes this a standout look of the night for me.

Laura Carmichael in Vionnett

For my fifth and final best dressed star it was a hard choice between Downton Abbey stars Laura Carmichael and Joanne Froggatt, who did look radiant in Honor, but I think Laura’s subtle sexy and daring choice in Vionnett with its sheer and patterned skirt deserved the space that little bit more.

What I love about this look is how different and modern this look is, she took a risk and it paid off, and I am so pleased that she resisted the temptation to over style it as the dress really does speak for itself. I am sure this look will split opinions but I love it.

Golden Globes 2015: Emma Stone In Lanvin

Who: Best Supporting Actress nominee Emma Stone

Where: At the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards held at The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California

Wearing: A strapless Lanvin jumpsuit with silver embellishments to the bodice and a statement train with a bow in the back, teamed with black heels

Verdict: Emma Stone has become one of my favourite red carpet stars and it is for looks like this, it isn’t frothy, it isn’t boring, and it isn’t what you expect during award season, and that is why I love it.

I am a huge fan of masculine styling on the red carpet and this Lanvin jumpsuit really does fuse the feminine of the beaded bodice and the masculine trousers perfectly, add that statement bow on the train in the back and it makes it red carpet worthy.

You need a confidence and fun spirit to pull this look off, which of course Emma has bucket loads of, and I adore how she kept the rest of the styling to a minimum to show off this incredible jumpsuit. Her hair and make-up is also flawless.

The only thing missing from this look was her boyfriend Andrew Garfield!!!

Cover Loving: W Magazine’s Movie Issue By Tim Walker

W-Mag-emma-stone

It has been a while since a magazine cover actually excited me like these Tim Walker masterpieces for W Magazine’s annual movie issue featuring the top nominees ahead of the award season. Walker has snapped 39 nominees from Emma Stone, looking like a broken doll, to Julianne Moore, looking like she could be sisters with Effie from The Hunger Games, and even a very creepy Bradley Cooper dressed in a white.

There are 7 amazing covers, but for me the stand-outs have to be Emma Stone’s and Reese Witherspoon, I really love the ’70s free-love aesthetic, and seeing movie stars transformed into eccentric characters is just an another reason why Walker is a master at bridging the gap between fashion and art.

As well as the covers the accompanying editorial is just as strong with Jessica ChastainAmy Adams and Shailene Woodley looking equally eccentric. I love that magazines like W Magazine take a chance with Walker as these images wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery, I actually think that is where they belong, they deserve to be hung up on walls.

What are you thoughts about W Magazine’s movie issue covers?

Met Gala 2014: Battle Of The Pink

After the disappointed red carpet at last year’s Punk-themed Met Gala I was thrilled that this year’s event was celebrating Charles James the master courtier that really understood drama, sculpture, class, and what makes a great red carpet dress – generally something huge that makes a statement – so I am pleased that the celebs attendees really honoured his vision.

One of my favourite looks had to be Reese Witherspoon in this strapless Barbie-pink Stella McCartney gown. Everything from the colour to the sculptured take on the sweetheart neckline to the way it contoured her body and the slight train, everything about this look is perfection.

If the dress wasn’t enough to make me squeal with excited her Hollywood glamour hair and make-up sure would, the Oscar-winning star was simple flawless, I just loved the matching hot pink lips. I can’t believe that this is Reese’s first time at the Met Gala – this is a great debut look.

There were many hues of pink on the night and two came from Stella McCartney, to complement Reese’s hot pink gown, the gorgeous Kate Bosworth looked divine in this dusky pink slinky spaghetti strap dress. Her statuesque model figure really pulls off this great dress, which has sexy little cut-outs under the bust. But as much as I love the dress it is the styling of the accessories and hair-do that I adore the most – I love that she wasn’t afraid to add sparkle!!!

Combining an element of both Reese’s and Kate’s looks was Emma Stone who look modern, young and fabulous in this striking-yet-simple custom two-piece pink and magenta, colour-block Thakoon ensemble. What I love is that it isn’t a ballgown, I know that was kind of the theme of the night and this look might not quite have cut it, but for me Emma showed a contemporary look that still honoured Charles James with the flowing wrap skirt. Plus with hair like that she definitely had to be featured – love, love, love!!!

One last pink look that caught my attention was Taylor Swift who wore a custom blush pink embellished satin Oscar de la Renta gown teamed with Lorraine Schwartz jewellery. While the front of this gown was exquisite, well it was crafted by Oscar de la Renta and embroidered with gold sequins, pearl beads and rose metallic leaves, for me this gown was all about the drama in the back – check out that fabulous bow and train. Stunning in an Old Hollywood glamour kind of way.

It is hard to choose who wins the battle of the pink, but I think Reese in that stunning hot pink number just gets it. Who was your favourite girl in pink?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Emma Stone In Atelier Versace

Emma-Stone-Versace-

Who: Emma Stone

Where: At the world premiere of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ held at The Odeon in London

Wearing: A custom-made yellow Atelier Versace gown with pleated detailing, statement padded shoulders,  an open-back and Swarovski embellishments, teamed with David Webb yellow gold necklace

Verdict: I love yellow on the red carpet, from subtle mustard hues to vibrant shades like this – it always makes an impact and is perfect for a spring premiere. I also love how the yellow contrasts beautifully against her red locks, which might I add is impeccable styled like the old-Hollywood screen-siren that she is.

Back to the dress, which I think is perfection, not only the colour but the cut, the pleats, the statement shoulders and the waistband, I love everything about this look – Emma Stone has really got red carpet dresses down she always looks stunning.

Finishing off her look with red lippy just makes it pure perfection from head-to-toe!!!

Are you a fan of Emma Stone’s vibrant look?
