Cover Loving: February Magazines Are All About Actresses

Vanity-Fair-jennifer-lawren

You can tell that it is award season as all the major magazines have gorgeous actresses gracing their covers. Vanity Fair has gone for Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, Harper’s Bazaar have an elegant looking Anne Hathaway, Glamour UK goes girlie with Emma Stone, and Victoria Beckham’s designs score two covers with both Scarlett Johansson and Kristen Stewart wearing white on the covers of ELLE UK and V Magazine.

My favourite has to be the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence sporting her natural blonde locks in a fun cover for Vanity Fair. Shot by Ellen von Unwerth there is a softness in Jennifer’s face on the cover that is transformed into a complete vixen for the accompanying editorial and I love it. Sometimes Jennifer can be a little too serious – this cover is fun and relaxed and definitely brightened up my day.

Vanity-Fair-jennifer-lawrenemma-stone-glamour-magazineIt was close but my girl crush Emma Stone is my second favourite with her girlie cover for Glamour UK shot by Matthias Vriens-McGarth. Wearing a D&G botanical floral print, Emma is perfect for Glamour’s audience, I just wish they had gone for a different colour for the font – the orange is working for me. Anyone else was thinking this cover looks a little familiar? Well you would be right as a very similar shot from the same shoot was used for Glamour US back in May 2011.

Next up has to be Scarlett Johansson’s subscriber cover for ELLE UK’s February issue wearing a Burberry coat shot by Rankin. I like the newsstand version with her working a Victoria Beckham microbrush and lace dress but only from the ankles up, I am not loving those runway Manolo Blahnik for Victoria Beckham shoes. The subscriber cover is intriguing – I love the messy hair and seeing only one eye – Scarlett looks beautiful.

It was hard to decide who came next between Anne and Kristen, I am not blown away by either cover to be honest, but I think Harper’s Bazaar just takes it because of that gorgeous crystal-embellished Giorgio Armani strapless gown – all I can say about the rest is does Anne have a lazy eye?

Kristen doesn’t fair much better for me on V Magazine’s Spring 2013 issue. It isn’t that I don’t like the styling, the white Victoria Beckham vest with a black bra peeking out is fine, the make-up is grundy as you would expect from the Twilight actress – the problem I have is that I feel I have seen it all before – the wet hair, the moody look, the dark make-up around the eyes. Anyone else a little bored?

Shopping: AW12 hits River Island

If like me you are not sure whether to dust off your autumn/winter storage because of the change in weather let me get you in the mood with a behind-the-scenes look at River Island’s amazing AW12 campaign that was shot by legendary Ellen Von UnWerth.

For autumn/winter, River Island has really nailed it with its Downtown and Futuristic Goth trends. I love all the oversized swagger coats and the relaxed styling of Downtown, plus anything with red tartans, tweeds, herringbone and dog-tooth always gets my vote. It also looks amazing in contrast to the medieval era of the Futuristic Goth – lots of black, lots of texture clashes working velvet with delicate lace, sheer and chiffon, and then made edgy with leather and studded accessories.

I can’t wait for the weather to get a little cooler!!!

See the behind-the-scenes video below, and pick out your favourite pieces that will be rolling out across River Island stores in the coming months.

Cover Loving: Coco Rocha’s Four September Issues

It seems that the model with a thousand poses has snag not one but four September covers and each one of Coco Rocha is utterly different and memorising at the same time. I have gushed before about how much I love Coco, granted she isn’t a bombshell model like Gisele or Karolina Kurkova, or as cool as say Kate Moss, and she doesn’t seem to grace as many campaigns as say Karlie Kloss, but there is something so special and different about her that always makes me takes notice and I am loving her September covers.

I feel like I am on the panel of America’s Next Top Model or something but seriously the first thing you see from all the covers has to be her eyes closely following by her stunning bone structure. Her beautiful features come across beautifully on her cover for VS Magazine shot by Ellen Von Unwerth as well as her upwards gaze on the debut issue of Flair Germany snapped by Arnaud Pyvka. But my two favourite have to be her ELLE covers, both working the red autumn trend.

I going to have to give it to ELLE Korea, Coco looks stunning in her Louis Vuitton dress and sharp bob. But I can’t wait to pick up Elle Espana as apparently Coco has shot the entire magazine, not just the cover, all four editorials inside – now that is model power!!!

So which Coco cover do you prefer?

Cover Loving: Naomi Campbell Sparkles For Schön!

I do love a good style mag and I don’t think you can get much better than Schön! the quality of the editorial spreads are always amazing, and I think they’ve out-done themselves for their 18th issue dubbed the Showbiz edition.

Curated by Brett Bailey, the magazine has one of the best covers I have seen this summer, and one of the best I have ever seen of Naomi Campbell – Ellen von Unwerth has captured her beautifully and she looks incredible. I’m also loving the ode to The Hunger Games with her blue hair very Eddie Trinket don’t you think in the editorial spread.

What do you think – will you be buying the latest issue of Schön!?
