Trend Watch: Quirky & Fun Statement Clutches

Statement-clutchFor me clutches are the perfect way to inject a little fun and personality into an outfit, and I am loving how many designer names are embracing the little quirky, statement bags in their collections. I am a huge fan of Charlotte Olympia, Kate Spade, Sophia Webster, Olympia Le Tan, and Anya Hindmarch, and I am so pleased I have a few in my bag collection, but when it comes to designer I tend to opt for their classic styles over the fun ones, so I have been on the hunt for some purse friendly fun alternatives, and I can’t believe how many beauties I found for under £40.

It seems that all the major high street and online retailers are embracing the statement clutch trend, with the likes of ASOS, Next, New Look, Debenhams and Accessorize taking inspiration from Chanel’s supermarket sweep, Anya Hindmarch’s love of brands, Fendi’s cute monsters, and there is even a copy of Sophia Webster’s speech bubble, with a little DIY help.

It is hard to pick a favourite, but if you twist my arm I think I have to be edging towards the Next offerings, I love their Drumstick clutch, not only for its nostalgic nod to my childhood, I loved those lollies, but also because its candy stripes will brighten up any look and the perfume bottle is just cute. I am also loving Accessorize’s Apple Juice bag, not quite Chanel, but hey for £29 what do you expect.

Which clutch is your favourite?

1. Accessorize Apple Juice Bag – £29 // 2. ASOS Sun Clutch – £18 // 3. H by Henry Holland Telephone Cross Body Bag – £22 // 4. Selfridges Pop Clutch – £35 // 5. Next Pink Perfume Clutch – £28 // 6. My Style: Working My New Nike Kicks From Schuh

At the weekend it seems Cambridge was one of the few places to actually resemble summer, it was sunny, very sunny in fact, and actually warm, I even burnt a little, which was unexpected. I had friends staying for the weekend so we took in the sights of Cambridge, which meant a lot of walking, so I decided that I had to work my new Nike Delta high tops that I bought from Schuh.

This weekend was their first outing, I bought them about three weeks ago, but I had been worried that I wasn’t cool enough to pull them off, but once I had them on my feet I didn’t care they as they are so comfortable. I know everyone is about wedge trainers, which I love, but I just love that the classic high top shape.

I paired my beauties with their coral swoosh and laces with the casual vibe of my favourite navy cotton shirt dress from H&M, which for £7.99 is one of my go-to dresses at the weekend as it is so comfortable, not too tight, not too baggy, it’s perfect. I paired it with my rose belt that I bought months ago in the Dorothy Perkins sale, I love the pale blue against the navy and black and I love that it pops nicely against the pink.

I have a little scarf obsession lately, New Look seems to have a lot of cool designs and this zebra print is one of my favourites at the moment, I love the pale pink colour as it generally means I can get it to work with anything, while it still has the quirky vibe of the zebras.

Finishing off my look are my trusty CK shades, I love these beauties, plus my rather large, very bright Ice-Watch, and the tiniest bag I own my cross-body bag that I bought from Debenhams last year, it basically fits my Blackberry, purse and car keys and that’s it!!!

So what do you think – do you like my kicks?

My Style: Nike Delta high tops, £60 from Schuh; H&M dress; Primark cardigan and leggings; F*** Me I’m Famous Ice-Watch (c/o); Bag from Debenhams; CK sunglasses; and New Look zebra-print scarf.

High Street: Jenny Packham Coming To Debenhams

Next month fashion designer to the stars, Jenny Packham, who has dressed the likes of Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie and Catherine Middleton  is launching her first high street collaboration with department store Debenhams. A couple of months back I went to a preview of the collection, which features a capsule line of 19 dresses with some gorgeous floor-sweeping maxis and adorable prom dresses and sexy cocktail numbers.

I was a little worried how the collection would work for the high street considering Jenny Packham is known for her exquisite glamour and quality in both her bridal and ready-to-wear lines. What has translated well is her signature style the collection features pleating, gentle draping, luxurious looking fabrics, florals and intricate graphic prints, as well as gorgeous bold block colours with the red dress really catching my eye.

After being surprised by the collection, I was more in shock when I learnt how affordable the line was going to be with prices starting at just £18 for accessories and from £85 for dresses, with the floor-skimming maxi costing £160, which means that it will be making a lot of appearances at weddings this summer!!!

There is even a cute bridesmaid collection for girls – how adorable.

My Style: My New Black Poodle Jumper

I haven’t done much shopping lately but I couldn’t resist this cute black poodle jumper from Debenhams as it was half price and only cost me £15. You can’t tell on the picture but the poodles are fluffy – and I just adore how the pink bow embellishments pop – so cute!!

Also I thought I would include an Instagram snap, I don’t have an iPhone I am a Blackberry gal but can use the app on my iPod Touch and thought I would see how it looked. I have to admit I quite like it. Now if only iPhone wasn’t touch screen I could play with these apps all day long!!!

So have you bought anything cute in the sales?

Winter Warmers: Great Coats At January Sale Prices

I always find getting my winter coat one of the most stressful shopping experiences, that is after finding the most perfect pair of jeans – but I have tracked down some beauties in the January sales. From the classic duffle coat, which is my new favourite – I quite like the Paddington Bear look, to another classic the Pea Coat that was seen on the runways at Stella McCartney and YSL. I have also added in some bright coats to brighten up any winter morning, as well as some chic two-tone coats perfect for office.

If you are after a classic, while still being a little quirky you can’t go too wrong with a duffle coat – these are my top three duffles:

1. Lands’ End, Wool Duffle, £110 down from £180, Landsend.co.uk

2. Uniqlo, Wool Duffle, £39.90 down from £89, Uniqlo.com

3. Vicky Smith, Women’s Winter Duffle Coat, £39.99 down from £59.99, Amazon.co.uk

Everyone needs to have a colourful coat in their wardrobe. How about this gorgeous blue maxi from Reiss or the cute 60s dolly coat from Oasis – there is so much choice this season.

1. Oasis, 60s Dolly Coat, £35 was £45, Oasis-Stores.com – I just adore this pastel colour, the swing silhouette and that adorable Princess collar and large buttons.

2. Reiss, Belted Raglan Sleeve Sapphire Coat, £195 was £345, Reissonline.com

3. Wallis, Pink 1923 Fur Trim Mohair Coat, £75 was £150, Wallis.co.uk – brighten up your winter days with this gorgeous coat that has been spotted on Daybreak presenter Kate Garraway.

4. Warehouse, Mustard coat, £35 was £45, Warehouse.co.uk

For a shorter coat style the Pea Coat is a perfect solution. I have selected some varying styles from faux fur collars to a boxy shape – as well as something a little colourful. All will look perfect dressed down with jeans – my favourite has to be the Tartan print from ASOS.

1. ASOS, Tartan Pea Coat With Faux Fur Collar, £34 down from £85, ASOS.com

2. Dorothy Perkins, Red Short Pea Coat, £35 down from £45, DorothyPerkins.com

3. Dorothy Perkins, Fur Collar Boxy Pea Coat, £40 down from £59, DorothyPerkins.com

4. New Look, Collarless Pea Coat, £18 down from £44.99, NewLook.com

Two-tone and monochrome coats seem to be around every year but the two I have chosen will look amazing for the office or a smart function.

1. Debenhams, Principles by Ben de Lisi, Black Colour Block Coat, £89.10 was £99, Debenhams.com

2. French Connection, Colour Block Wonderland Coat, £97.50 was £195, FrenchConnection.com – you can’t go wrong with a military coat mixed in with a retro two-tone vibe.

Happy shopping!!!

My Style: London Fashion Week – Day 1

I always find fashion week extremely stressful when it comes to choosing what to wear, and generally it involves a last minute dash shopping the day before. That is how this outfit came about. The dress is from Debenhams Edition collection by Jonathan Saunders and I just loved the fit of it as well as the school-girl heavy pleats. It was quite warm yesterday and this dress is quite heavy and fully lined but I felt comfortable in it.

I paired my dark blue shift dress with geometric print at the top and nipped in at the waist with a skinny belt, teamed with my trusty Rebecca Minkoff, it is like my security blanket, and my Russell and Bromley patent brogues, flats were in order as I had a lot of walking between venues.

Thanks to the fab Abi Marvel for taking my picture, apologies for how unphotogenic I actual am!!

Fashion Fillies: Debenhams Launches Fashion on the Field

Yesterday I was lucky enough to meet the very charming Jeff Banks at the launch of Debenhams Fashion on the Field at the Soho Hotel. I must admit I went mainly to see Jeff Banks, I was a huge fan of the original Clothes Show and meeting him wasn’t a disappointment.

What I love is how passionate Jeff Banks is still about fashion, how dashing he looked in his three-piece grey suit, and how sweet he was when he realised Horse magazine was in the house. Apparently since the Hugh Grant moment in Notting Hill he has wanted either Horse and Hound or Horse magazine to attend one of his launches, bless the lovely Tess from Horse as she was a little embarrassed by the attention.

Back to the launch, well it is taken from a concept made famous at The Melbourn Cup in Australia, and its the biggest partnership between racing and fashion the UK has ever seen, basically it is a style search for the best dressed racegoer at York Ebor this August. There are fabulous prizes to be won, including a £500 spending spree in Debenhams, photoshoot in London, custom-made Jimmy Choo couture heels, dinner at The Ivy with Jeff Banks, and even a fabulous holiday for two in St. Vincent.

Each day Jeff Banks will be joined by fellow creator milliner Yvette Jelfs, as well as guest judges including Lorraine’s Mark Heyes, and Designer at Debenhams designers Matthew Williamson, John Rocha and Ben de Lisi, and they will select three finalists and one winner that will go through to the grand final on August 20.

I have to admit I have never done Ladies Day at any racing meet but with prizes like this I think it gives everyone a boost to try something new. If you are going good luck and fingers crossed you are the most stylish dresser.

You can pre-register to take part via the Fashion on the Field website up until August 10.
