Critics’ Choice Awards: My Five Favourite Red Carpet Looks

Critics-choice-angelina-jol

So the award season is certainly in full swing, which I am loving, first up was the Golden Globes that was semi-disappointing this year, but thankfully this year’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards really did make up for some of the boring looks from last Sunday, I am talking about you Emily Blunt!!!

I know I normally do individual red carpet posts, but as I am late on this as I was actually travelling when the awards were taking place, I thought I would just share my five favourite looks, and trust me they are all beautiful.

First up we have Angelina Jolie who looked like a million dollars in her silver silk Atelier Versace gown. Granted this isn’t an original look, but if it isn’t broken why fix it comes to mind, but hey at least it isn’t black. I love how this gown flows and how it adds curves to Angie’s tiny frame with its fluty sleeves, draped bodice and plunging neckline. This gown is perfection with a real Hollywood movie star appeal and I adore it.

Critics-Choice-Diane-KrugerNext is Diane Kruger in a dramatic blue and white floral print strapless Naeem Khan gazar gown from the pre-fall 2015 collection. I love Diane’s red carpet style but this is elegance on another level, I really love the stunning china-blue print, even if some of my Twitter followers felt it looked like a vintage plate design. I am not sure if I prefer this look to her gorgeous Golden Globes Emilia Wickstead gown but it is still beautiful and such a great award ceremony look.

Then we have Michelle Monaghan showing off her sexy-yet-elegant side in this stunning black Elie Saab gown from the pre-fall 2015 collection. Normally one to showcase colour on the red carpet, I am so pleased that she opted for the understated black, as I just feel that with the sheer lace bodice and slits to the skirt that it just works better in black. The fit of this gown is just perfect on her as well, and I love that she wore her hair up and kept her make-up to a minimum. This is simply glamorous.

For my fourth look I have gone for Jennifer Aniston as not only was I shocked that she wasn’t wearing black, I love that she took a fashion risk and went for a sexy Gucci tuxedo in a gorgeous burnt-sienna hue. I was disappointed with her yawn of a gown to the Golden Globes and I have to wonder why she didn’t wear this as she would have certainly stood out.

There is something about a woman in a tuxedo and I love that instead of going for a safer option by wearing this in black she went for it in red, it totally paid off as she looks hot!!! I know a lot has been spoken about the fact that she was on the red carpet for the first time in years with Angelina Jolie but I think this look is so different from her silver gown that it stops comparisons and that was very clever.

For some this had a little bit too much plunge, I have to disagree I think the neckline and opting for no blouse really works and I love that she accessorised her décolletage with a couple of gold necklaces. Another love from this look has to be those flared-leg trousers, they are so flattering and really give her super long legs.

My final look that I adored at the Critics’ Choice Awards had to be Emily Blunt, like with Jennifer her Golden Globes look didn’t excite me, and it is because I knew that she could do so much better like with this red embroidered lace Emilio Pucci halter-neck gown. How stunning is this, if it was in white it would make a great wedding gown with those sheer chiffon inserts.

I do love the colour choice, it adds a touch of sex appeal to the elegance glamour of the embroidered gown and I love her wavy hair, it all just looks so effortless. Also Emily and her husband John Krasinski really are leading the Hollywood pack for the cutest couple award.

Which was your favourite look from this year’s Critics’ Choice Movie Awards?

Critics’ Choice Awards: Lupita Nyong’o In Calvin Klein

Who: Critics’ Choice winner Lupita Nyong’o

Where: At the 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica

Wearing: A custom ivory silk Calvin Klein Collection bandeau dress featuring cut-out detailing, teamed with a gold box clutch

Verdict: I love it when Hollywood newcomers outshine the old guard during award season, the winner of the best supporting actress award wowed at the Golden Globes, but I think this Calvin Klein bandeau dress is her best look let – she looks flawless.

Everything from the bandeau style to the cut-out detailing and the crisp white colour – I love this look from head-to-toe – she really is red carpet perfection.

I loved Margot Robbie in Elie Saab and Amy Adams’ pop of pink in Roland Mouret – but for me Lupita is hands down my favourite red carpet look from this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards.

Critics’ Choice Movie Awards: Margot Robbie In Elie Saab

margot-robbie-elie-saabWho: The Wolf of Wall Street star Margot Robbie

Where: At the 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica

Wearing: A black Elie Saab jumpsuit, featuring long black lace sleeves, from the ready-to-wear spring/summer 2014 collection, teamed with an Alexander McQueen ‘Panther’ clutch also from the spring/summer 2014 collection

Verdict: I love gowns, especially during award season, but I also love something a little different and the gorgeous Australian actress who wowed me in Gucci at the Golden Globes looked incredible in this elegant Elie Saab jumpsuit.

What I love about Margot, other than the fact you can see that she is new to the industry, which I love, is how effortless she makes every red carpet look. This look is polished and relaxed at the same time and makes her standout – I also love her beach-tousled hair as well.

Basically – Margot is just hot. I think she is fast becoming one of my red carpet crushes.

Critics’ Choice Movie Awards: Jessica Chastain Dazzles In Prada

Who: Jessica Chastain, winner of the Best Actress accolade for her role in Zero Dark Thirty

Where: At the 18th Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held in Santa Monica, California

Wearing: A red Prada gown featuring jewel embellishments to the plunging neckline and bow detailing to the back, teamed with Harry Winston jewellery

Verdict: I love, love, love red dresses on the red carpet, add in fiery red hair and gorgeous embellishments and I am most certainly sold.

For some I am sure this look from Jessica is a little too tame, well that maybe the case from the front but then you see that incredible embellished-bow on the back – seriously wow!!!

Everything about this look is gorgeous – from the dress to the incredible jewels to her flawless make-up and Old Hollywood waves. I think it is going to be a great award season for Jessica.

Critics’ Choice Movie Awards: Emmy Rossum Has A Princess Moment In Carolina Herrera

Who: Emmy Rossum

Where: At the 18th Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held in Santa Monica, California

Wearing: A navy-blue celestial printed Carolina Herrera gown, featuring an organza overlay, star shaped crystal-embellishments to the nape and at the waist and grosgrain waistband from the pre-fall 2013 collection, teamed with light blue drop earrings

Verdict: This is a breathtaking look from Emmy and as regularly Fashionista Barbie readers will know I do love a ‘Princess’ look and this is it from last night’s Critic’s Choice for me – that celestial printed organza overlay makes this gown heavenly.

If it wasn’t enough that the gown was spectacular I just adore her Old Hollywood wavy locks to the side and those OTT drop earrings – Emmy is simply stunning.

I loved everything about Carolina Herrera’s pre-fall 2013 collection and I am so pleased to see it on the red carpet and I don’t think this will be the last we see from this collection.

Do you love this Princess look as much as I do?

Critics’ Choice Movie Awards: Anne Hathaway In Oscar de la Renta

Who: Anne Hathaway,  winner of the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Les Miserables

Where: At the 18th Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held in Santa Monica, California

Wearing: A Platine spiral bugle bead Oscar de la Renta gown, teamed with diamond stud earrings and bracelet

Verdict: At first glance I wasn’t sure whether I liked this gown on Anne or not, I am not saying it doesn’t look incredible on her, the slinky silhouette suits her, it just didn’t wow me like I hoped.

Sparkles on the red carpet normally gets my vote but when I look at this gown all I can think is that this is something Nicole Kidman would wear or very similar to something she has worn. Again not a bad thing, I am just a little underwhelmed I think – here’s hoping for more at the weekend.

What I did adore though is her flawless make-up, that shade of lippy is divine, and I like her pixie crop all styled.

Is it just me who is a little bored by this look?

Critics’ Choice Movie Awards: Nina Dobrev Sparkles In Monique Lhuillier

stippled-photo, Monique Lhuillier, Nina Dobrev, Critic's Choice Movie Awards
Who: Nina Dobrev

Where: At the 18th Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held in Santa Monica, California

Wearing: An aqua-blue embellished Monique Lhuillier cocktail dress featuring keyhole detail at the bodice from the spring/summer 2013 collection, teamed with Brian Atwood heels

Verdict: I wasn’t the only one who missed Nina on the red carpet of the People’s Choice Awards earlier this week, but it was worth waiting to see her this award season as this is one divine Monique Lhuillier dress.

Whereas everyone seemed to go for floor-length at last night’s Critics’ Choice awards it was refreshing to see the Vampire Diaries star embracing her youth and incredible figure in this jewel encrusted beauty. I am not sure if they are sequins or actual jewels but they certainly dazzled in all the right way for me, and the colour is just gorgeous.

2012 was a great style year for Nina and it seems that 2013 is just going to see her shine even brighter on the red carpet and I can’t wait to see more. I simply love this sexy dress on her.
