Cover Loving: February Magazines Are All About Actresses

You can tell that it is award season as all the major magazines have gorgeous actresses gracing their covers. Vanity Fair has gone for Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, Harper’s Bazaar have an elegant looking Anne Hathaway, Glamour UK goes girlie with Emma Stone, and Victoria Beckham’s designs score two covers with both Scarlett Johansson and Kristen Stewart wearing white on the covers of ELLE UK and V Magazine.

My favourite has to be the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence sporting her natural blonde locks in a fun cover for Vanity Fair. Shot by Ellen von Unwerth there is a softness in Jennifer’s face on the cover that is transformed into a complete vixen for the accompanying editorial and I love it. Sometimes Jennifer can be a little too serious – this cover is fun and relaxed and definitely brightened up my day.

Vanity-Fair-jennifer-lawrenemma-stone-glamour-magazineIt was close but my girl crush Emma Stone is my second favourite with her girlie cover for Glamour UK shot by Matthias Vriens-McGarth. Wearing a D&G botanical floral print, Emma is perfect for Glamour’s audience, I just wish they had gone for a different colour for the font – the orange is working for me. Anyone else was thinking this cover looks a little familiar? Well you would be right as a very similar shot from the same shoot was used for Glamour US back in May 2011.

Next up has to be Scarlett Johansson’s subscriber cover for ELLE UK’s February issue wearing a Burberry coat shot by Rankin. I like the newsstand version with her working a Victoria Beckham microbrush and lace dress but only from the ankles up, I am not loving those runway Manolo Blahnik for Victoria Beckham shoes. The subscriber cover is intriguing – I love the messy hair and seeing only one eye – Scarlett looks beautiful.

It was hard to decide who came next between Anne and Kristen, I am not blown away by either cover to be honest, but I think Harper’s Bazaar just takes it because of that gorgeous crystal-embellished Giorgio Armani strapless gown – all I can say about the rest is does Anne have a lazy eye?

Kristen doesn’t fair much better for me on V Magazine’s Spring 2013 issue. It isn’t that I don’t like the styling, the white Victoria Beckham vest with a black bra peeking out is fine, the make-up is grundy as you would expect from the Twilight actress – the problem I have is that I feel I have seen it all before – the wet hair, the moody look, the dark make-up around the eyes. Anyone else a little bored?

Magazine Snapshots:The September Issue Covers

I have already gushed about Gwen Stefani for Harper’s Bazaar US, showed my delight at the models getting September covers including Rosie Huntingdon-Whiteley and her incredible pins, and even know I wanted more from Victoria Beckham’s Glamour US cover I still liked the quirky vibe, well it seems as I expected everyone has pulled out the stops for September so I thought I would do a round-up of all the covers so far.

One of my favourites and most anticipated had to be Miley Cryus for Marie Claire US, I was a little worried that the cover would age her a little, as Marie Claire isn’t known for targeting the teen market, but I am pleasantly surprised with this glamorous cover. Shot by Tesh, Miley is wearing the same bejewelled Christian Dior dress that Mila Kunis wore for ELLE UK last month and I like it. The rest of the editorial looks just as good with Miley wearing Tom Ford, Versace, Roberto Cavalli and even Kanye West – I can’t wait to pick up this issue.

Next up we have the actresses, leading the pack of course is Keira Knightley for Harper’s Bazaar UK who is sporting Chanel on the cover. It has been a while since she took a cover and I like this moody look. The next standout cover has to be the gorgeous Nina Dobrev for Canada’s Fashion magazine – I love that they styled her in one of my favourite pieces from the Prada autumn/winter 2012 collection – it is definitely one of the more daring of September covers.

The rest are a little boring and each seem to be doing their signature sexy pose – we have Blake Lively for Marie Claire Australia wearing Antonio Berardi, Clare Danes for GQ UK, Sofia Vergara for Allure, and Jessica Biel for Cosmopolitan France.

ELLE US and Vogue US have gone with the battle of the popstars. ELLE has gone for a pink cover with Katy Perry wearing a gorgeous crystal-embellished Bottega Veneta gown from the autumn/winter 2012  collection, and Vogue have gone for god knows what as even with Lady Gaga tweeting that she is pressuring the mag to released the cover we all still wait!!!

We have a teen battle brewing between Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan US – both going for denim, revealing shirts and TV starlets. Tough to choose between them both Selena Gomez and Lucy Hale look stunning – but I do love the pop of yellow on Lucy.

Then we have some background covers and one with a huge hat!!! Glamour UK goes for Dannii Minogue, again. Company taps Whitney Port in a more summery than autumn/winter cover. InStyle UK have a lacklustre Daisy Lowe cover, I like the Prada but bored of the pose. American magazine Redbook sparkles slightly with Jordin Sparks – thank god they chose that skirt. Last in the grid is Harper’s Bazaar Australia with the divine French model Constance Jablonski wearing Louis Vuitton’s autumn/winter 2012 collection – I am not sure whether she is wearing the hat or the hat is wearing her!

Last but not least we have Vanity Fair’s style issue with Oscar-nominated actress Jessica Chastain and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge topping the magazines’ International Best-Dressed List: Women! Jessica’s cover which will be sent to subscribers is nice, but come on Kate’s cover is just dull – that image has been seen everywhere already. I wonder when we might get a specially commission Kate cover?? I think they should have stuck with just Jessica.

So which September cover so far is your favourite and which ones will you be picking up?

Cover Loving: Models Continue To Shine On The September Issues

I love celebrities and I do love seeing celebrities on magazine covers, yep even I have been persuaded to buy a magazine just because my favourite actress is on the cover, but I have to be honest I do love it when models take covers, more so when it is a September issue – as they are the fashion issues of the year.

It seems that this September the supermodels really are taking over and producing some amazing covers. I have already shown you ELLE UK’s gorgeous Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, well the subscriber cover dropped through my letterbox over the weekend and I am so pleased they showcased her incredible pins!!! Well it seems that more magazines around the world understand the power of a model – Flare, Canada’s biggest fashion magazine has gone for Lindsey Wixson, Vogue UK and Japan both went for Karlie Kloss, Tokyo Numero have the lovely Candice Swanepoel, and Tatler shows that Cindy Crawford can still work it.

One of my favourite covers so far for September has to be Flare’s gold rush with Lindsey Wixson wearing a coat, top and skirt from Prabal Gurung’s autumn/winter 2012 collection, with incredible Laruicci earrings and a super pop of red lippy.

What I love about this cover, other than the obvious – her striking beauty, I still can’t believe that she is only 18-years-old, but that Flare didn’t go for one of the obvious, high-spending advertisers such as Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton or Gucci – it is always refreshing to see, especially with a September issue.

I was expecting a lot from British Vogue, September as they state themselves is ‘Fashion’s Olympic moment’, but for me this vibrant  seventies-inspired look doesn’t quite cut it for me. Shot by Nick Knight, I love the Jonathan Saunders high-waisted gold printed skinny trousers teamed with a clashing printed silk shirt, but I am put off by Karlie’s pose, I am not sure Tara would approve, and I really dislike the orange and pink text – just too much.

I think I am going to have to give it to Vogue Japan, their September issue featuring Karlie in an Yves Saint Laurent chainmail dress is divine. I love the moody feel to this cover, the white background works perfectly with the smoky tones and of course it wouldn’t be Japanese without the text overload. Everything from the styling to the make-up to her pose and the text works on this cover shot by Mikael Jansson.

Special mention has to go to Cindy Crawford, how stunning does she look for Tatler, she really doesn’t age I couldn’t believe that she is 46 – she is giving these younger models a run for their money!!!

Have you been impressed with the September covers so far? Do let me know which ones are your favourites.
