Cover Loving: W Magazine’s Movie Issue By Tim Walker

W-Mag-emma-stone

It has been a while since a magazine cover actually excited me like these Tim Walker masterpieces for W Magazine’s annual movie issue featuring the top nominees ahead of the award season. Walker has snapped 39 nominees from Emma Stone, looking like a broken doll, to Julianne Moore, looking like she could be sisters with Effie from The Hunger Games, and even a very creepy Bradley Cooper dressed in a white.

There are 7 amazing covers, but for me the stand-outs have to be Emma Stone’s and Reese Witherspoon, I really love the ’70s free-love aesthetic, and seeing movie stars transformed into eccentric characters is just an another reason why Walker is a master at bridging the gap between fashion and art.

As well as the covers the accompanying editorial is just as strong with Jessica ChastainAmy Adams and Shailene Woodley looking equally eccentric. I love that magazines like W Magazine take a chance with Walker as these images wouldn’t look out of place in an art gallery, I actually think that is where they belong, they deserve to be hung up on walls.

What are you thoughts about W Magazine’s movie issue covers?

Cover Loving: Lupita Nyong’o Nails Her First Vogue Cover

lupita-nyongo-vogue-cover

I am so pleased that Lupita Nyong’o is gracing her first Vogue cover, she really did make the 2014 award season *do you remember her white Calvin Klein gown*, and I am even more pleased that it is a great cover.

Shot by Mikael Jansson, Lupita looks incredible in this Marrakech photoshoot wearing vibrant designs by Proenza Schouler, Rodarte, Vera Wang, Jonathan Saunders, Givenchy and Prada that gorgeous red and purple print dress looks insane on her.

I think one of my favourite shots has to be where Lupita is reclining against a red velvet couch wearing a printed Rodarte gown, I love that the prints are so similar that her beauty really becomes the focal point of the picture, and I think the gorgeous Moroccan setting was just genius. So beautiful.

I think this will be the first of many major covers for Lupita and I can’t wait to see what else this gorgeous actress has to share.

Are you pleased that Lupita has scored her first Vogue cover?

Cover Loving: Diane Kruger In Hugo Boss For Vogue Germany

Diane-Kruger-Covers-Vogue-Germany-july14

I do love a magazine cover that portrays movement, it always makes it more striking and appealing, and this is one gorgeous cover from Diane Kruger for Vogue Germany’s July 2014 issue.

Captured by Camilla Akrans, who always seems to impress me, Diane Kruger really does make a fairly boring sequinned top and skirt ensemble from Hugo Boss’ autumn/winter 2014 collection, the first designed by Jason Wu look amazing. It just shows what styling, setting and movement can do for a piece of clothing.

I also think the fresh pastel pink colour helps this cover, it really shimmers nicely, and I love the fun pose from Diane and how they’ve made the Vogue letters all quirky. I also have to say her hair slicked back and minimal make-up just add to the charm of this cover.

You might also be thinking that the look seems a little familiar to you, well that will be because Diane wore something very similar to the Met Gala, I really think if her Met Gala dress had been in this cute girlie colour it would have stood out more.

What do you think – are you a fan of Diane Kruger’s latest magazine cover?

Cover Loving: Angelina Jolie For ELLE US

Elle-US-Angelina-Jolie

Oooh I do love a black and white magazine cover, especially when it is as gorgeous as this, Angelina Jolie looks stunning on the June cover of US ELLE. Captured by Saint Laurent creative director Hedi Slimane, the whole shoot is striped back and just beautiful, on the cover Angelina looks relaxed in her signature colour, black, wearing minimal make-up that shows off her incredible cheekbones and her hair down. This is sublime and one of my favourite covers in a long time.

The cover is accompanied by a 16-page spread, that is huge, which will also be featured in more than 20 editions of ELLE worldwide and I am hoping it appears in my subscription copy of the UK version. Wearing exclusively Saint Laurent, well that’s obvious isn’t it, it is more than just a look book for the French fashion house because it is Angelina, if this was a model I would have thought it was a little over kill, but I like that she is basically showcasing the label’s monochrome pieces.

I also can’t wait to read the whole interview, the Maleficent star talks about her relationship with Brad, why she never thought she would have children, and casting her own daughter in her up-coming flick, basically it looks like ELLE covered it all.

What are your thoughts on Angelina Jolie’s latest magazine cover?

Cover Loving: Olivia Palermo For Brides

olivia-palermo-brides-cover

Ever since Olivia Palermo released her engagement via a very well-edited and beautiful Instagram video at New Year I have been wondering how long it would take a wedding magazine to get her on the cover – well it seems Brides US has snagged the fashion icon and bride-to-be for its June/July issue.

I love Olivia’s flawless, classic-yet-eclectic style, she is a girl who knows how to mix designer and high street, I adore that she is a fan of Zara and Mango, plus she really can work an accessory – I wish I had her jewellery collection, so I have to be honest I am quite interested to see what sort of bride she will be.

The styling of this shoot is a little edgy, very non-traditional and totally fun and stylish – the cover totally sets the feel of the shoot with Olivia looking incredible wearing a strapless silk-mesh-organza Marchesa wedding dress paired with a wool-crepe Marcelo Giacobbe jacket and her signature tousled ponytail.

The look that really caught my attention though had to be ruffled blush tulle Monique Lhuillier ball gown teamed with a crisp white Brooks Brothers Oxford shirt and striking drop earrings – I love this idea for a city elopement or even a beach wedding – it is fun yet still very bridal. Her final look is a lace fit-and-flare Elie Saab wedding dress with sheer ruffle skirt and long-sleeves – another outstanding dress – it just shows that whether it is strapless, with long-sleeves or with a ball gown skirt she is going to look gorgeous on her big day.

The socialite has been keeping tight-lipped about what she was going to actually wear down the aisle but did give the magazine some tips for brides-to-be:

“Check out the MarchesaOscar de la Renta, or Carolina Herrera shows online,” Olivia told the mag. “And even if your dream dress comes right off the rack, add your own touch. Play with colour. It’s all about the styling!”

I can’t wait to see the whole cover shoot when Brides June/July is out next month.

Cover Loving: Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue

VF-Hollywood-issue-2014One of my favourite covers of the year has to be the Vanity Fair Hollywood issue, I love seeing which stars have made the cut, the poses, the amazing fashion, and of course seeing who stands out. Last year didn’t wow me, OK it was great seeing Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck in bed together, but this year’s is more glamorous and I love it.

For the 20th anniversary cover of the Hollywood issue, Julia Roberts shows off her fabulous legs surrounded by Chiwetel EjioforIdris Elba, and a very dapper looking George Clooney. But the really cover doesn’t really wow until you see the whole three-panel foldout with the statuesque Lupita Nyong’o, who is really shining in her slinky gold Calvin Klein gown along with Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Naomie Harris.

The cover shot by Annie Leibovitz also features Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson, Chadwick Boseman and Lea Seydoux for a very elegant Hollywood look at the best stars of the year.

Which star stands out for you on this year’s Vanity Fair Hollywood issue?

Cover Loving: Allison Williams For InStyle

instyle-uk-feb-allison-will

So is this cover loving or just coat loving – I am in love with this gorgeous yellow and blue Miu Miu coat that Girls star Allison Williams is wearing on the February cover of InStyle UK.

I am a little obsessed with pastels, so I am a little pleased that it is set to be one of spring’s hottest trends and the styling of this cover and accompanying shoot is perfection. I have a few issues with that pose and positioning of her hand, but I can let that all go for this incredible coat.

What I also love about this cover, other than the fab coat, have I said that already, is that it is nice to see a covered-up cover for February – as yes it is still bloody cold and January is just too early to be handling summery covers.

Inside the editorial is just as gorgeous as the cover, Allison gets all ladylike modelling must-have spring pieces from Burberry, Michael Kors and Isabel Marant – I didn’t think I wanted a lilac coat until I saw this one below!!!

Are you a fan of this two-tone Miu Miu beauty?
