Passion For Fashion: Money Supermarket’s Fashion Styling Competition

Do you have a passion for fashion? If you just answered yes, like I did, you need to keep on reading as I have a great competition from Money Supermarket. I love checking out the latest trends, and I love even more when I can work the catwalk trends at a more affordable price, and autumn is one of my favourite times of year as I get to layer up!!!

If you are a fashion blogger who also enjoys scouring the internet for hot shopping picks and piecing together your dream outfits for the latest trends you are going to love Money Supermarket’s fashion competition, Passion for Fashion, where you can win £1,000 and an iPad 3.

How to enter:

It is simple to enter, all you need to do is put together five different outfits for the following categories: party, casual, outdoor, first date and office wear – basically you are creating the ultimate autumn/winter wardrobe.  As this is for Money Supermarket you need to be wise with your budget and each outfit should be under £200 and be put together from your favourite online fashion retailers. Also don’t forget this is a complete look for each category – so don’t forget shoes and accessories.

Once you have gathered your dream looks, write a blog post explaining why you choose each part of your outfit, what trends you were looking to replicate and detailing where your looks came from. Once you’ve published your blog, drop a quick email with your URL to passionforfashion@moneysupermarket.com by September 24.

Also don’t forget share your awesome looks on Twitter by tagging them with the hashtag #PassionforFashion.

What you can win:

There will be six winners; one for each category, winning £200 each to spend on the outfit they’ve put together. There will also be an overall winner who will win £1000 to spend on all five outfits, as well as an iPad 3.

Getting started:

I’m excited to be judging the Outdoor category, so to get you inspired and give you an idea of what I am looking for here is my example of my Outdoor look:

One of the biggest trends for autumn/winter 2012, Town & Country is inspired by the country, textured fabrics, earthy tones, and equestrian touches. For me the best of the ‘town and country’ trends came from the likes of Burberry, Ralph Lauren, and Chloe, each were inspired by English tweeds, Fair Isle knits, equestrian details, and woodland creatures. This is a category that the high street really has really taken hold of and you could go in so many different directions. For my example look I have decided to focus on one of my favourite Burberry looks. I haven’t replicated it completely, instead I have put my own twist on the look,  and I even managed to keep under the £200 budget!!!

New Look Khaki and Faux Leather Sleeve Jacket, £44.99 // Simeon Farrar Fox with Shirt and Tie T-Shirt at ASOS, £55 // Matalan Horse Skinny Buckle Belt, £3// ASOS Leather Single Strap Backpack, £35 // Lipsy Tweed Peplum Skirt, £35 // Barrats, Two Part Brogue Style Mid High Court Shoes, £15 // Butterfly by Mathew Williamson at Debenhams – Secret Gold Rabbit Adjustable Ring, £6.

Grand total = £193.99.

Basically, take the trend, make it your own and find it all for under £200 – I am so excited to see what direction you all take for Outdoors.

Want to find out more about how to enter? Well check out this handy video from the Money Supermarket guys and the dedicated Passion for Fashion competition page, where you can check out all the other judges, which includes my good pal Reena from Fashion Daydreams who is judging the First Date category.

Good luck – I can’t wait to see all your entries.

Competition: Fancy Winning A Jack French London Bag???

I promised a thank you for sticking with me through my redesign, thanks by the way for all your lovely comments, and it is a great thank you prize as I have one gorgeous Fulham bag designed by Jack French to give away.

If you haven’t heard of Jack French London let me introduce you to this fab British brand which launched last year, as it is fast becoming one of my go-to accessory brands. Basically, designer Jack who used to consult for high-end brands like Jimmy Choo, Christian Louboutin and Liberty decided to branch out on his own to create a luxurious collection of handbags for the masses, and OMG am I glad that he did as his bags are insane.

Jack French London offers everything from large totes, to cute cross-body bags like the Fulham, and even sexy clutches that are perfect for carrying to a wedding, and I’ve seen what’s to come for autumn/winter 2012 and it just keeps getting stronger. As well as all the bags being made from the softest leathers, I also love that each one is named after a different area of London.

So how do you win this gorgeous black Fulham bag, which might I add isn’t even in the shops yet?

Well, all you need to do is like both Fashionista Barbie and Jack French London on Facebook, and then leave me a comment below confirming that you have done that.

Like Jack French London on Facebook here

Like Fashionista Barbie on Facebook here

You have until 10am Tuesday, May 22, and don’t forget to add a comment below.

Good luck everyone!!!

The Look Show: Why Barbie Would Love To Sit Front Row

I write this competition entry sat on my new bench in my garden, a bench that I have dedicated to my dear friend Sam, that if it ever stays dry longer enough to paint will be a wonderful shade of forget-me-not blue. I only mention this as it totally reflects my summer, it hasn’t been great, I have lost a dear friend to a brain tumour, I am at a turning point in my life with regards to my career, and it seems that my blog Fashionista Barbie is all that seems to get me through at the moment, that is the power of fashion.

Fashion for me hasn’t always been about being the most stylish, because quite frankly I am not, I can recount many outfits over the course of my life that would most certainly make the worst dressed list:  my customised denim jeans at uni where I extended the flare and decorated them with stars *very Dolce & Gabbana*; my tie-dyed leggings that I frequently wore as a 10-year-old in my defence they were from my hippy mum; the all-over camo mini that I insisting on wearing to sixth form *slutty must have been in during the 90s*; and the too many occasions I wore cropped silk halterneck tops flashing my navel *body may have rocked then – but makes me sad-looking back at pics*. But what I take from all those styles is that fashion gives you the power to express who you are, it allows you to keep on reinventing yourself.

Fashion for me is more about who I am, and who I want to be. Fashion allows and accepts the weirdest of quirky folk like me to take part, I might not be the prettiest, stylish or even the skinniest but unlike what people think fashion isn’t a cold-hearted place, this is an industry that seems to welcome people with passion no matter how they look. I know most people will disagree with that statement and say it is an industry filled with pretty people, well of course, but it is also an industry that respects and delivers people’s fantasies and dreams.

I am engrossed by the passion of this industry, over the past couple of years I have met some fabulous designers, fashion bloggers and some crazy-loving publicists that on occasion have scared me with what fashion means to them; but no matter what, fashion for me delivers a conversation, whether it is commenting on not liking or how you would wear it, or even how striking something is, fashion is about personal opinion and that is why I love it so much. It is also why I love blogging so much.

To love fashion you have to accept that not everyone will like what you design/write/style/photograph *delete as appropriate*, not everyone will understand it, some people might even hate it, but what you can take away is that people will respect you more for putting yourself out there and showing who you are. I have to admit that at present my confidence is rock bottom, I even nearly didn’t post this entry like last year, but if what I feel about fashion is correct then people won’t judge my opinion but will respect and engage their own.

One thing I know for certain is fashion is a strong emotion, just remember the last outfit that you wore that made you feel so special, fashion can give you a boost when you need it most, and I am hoping that this Look competition is the boost I need!!

I have to admit I have been lucky enough to sit front row at a catwalk show, and it was one of the best feelings ever. Being so close you can touch the clothes as they come down the runway is such a rush, and I would so love to be at Westfield Stratford City reporting live for one of my go-to magazines Look.

At least with my last-minute entry I don’t have long to wait to see if I am one of the lucky five as the results are in August 22. If you have also entered good luck and hopefully I will see some of you there *fingers crossed*!!

Design Time: Your Dream Dress With Oasis and Look

I do love design competitions, I think it is because one of my ultimate dreams is to design my own collection *will never happen, not great at sketching people*, which is probably why this Dream Dress contest from Oasis and Look magazine caught my attention.

It is easy to do, as you don’t have to sketch or even really think too much, you just have to choose the basic dress shape from the sleeves and body to the skirt, the colour, and my favourite bit the embellishments, from cute collars to corsages, or even over-sized bows or glitzy belt detailing.

What you win is pretty impressive, you get your dream dress made and sold in Oasis in time for Christmas, your dress will hit the runway at the LOOK Show during London Fashion Week, of course you will also get VIP tickets to the show, and as well as all that you will also win £1,000 to spend at Oasis. Seriously cool prize.

So here is my entry. Even though I am obsessed with orange at the moment *see image 3 this was my second choice* I feel that this cobalt blue is such a gorgeous colour it works so well with a pleated skirt, and an added cute collars and embellished belt makes it the ultimate Christmas frock, well in my opinion!!!

So what will your dream dress look like? Head over to Oasis-stores.com/dreamdress before August 5 and get creating. The winning design will be picked by a panel and announced on August 12, fingers crossed my beauty wins!!!

Need more inspiration? Well check out my good friend Carina 100’s post, which I buy in a heartbeat!!
