Christmas Windows: Selfridges’ Oversized Winter Wonderland

13-Selfridges-Christmas-27

I am a bit of a Christmas nut, I love putting the Michael Buble album on repeat, eating copious amounts of mince pies, wrapping up warm with a hot chocolate watching festive movies, and each year I love checking out the Christmas decorations and window displays. If you follow me on Instagram you will have already seen a giant snowglobe in the middle of Piccadilly, a huge reindeer in Covent Garden, as well as sparkly displays in Leeds, and a rocking robin on Carnaby Street. Well yesterday, in between meetings and events, I decided to wander past Selfridges on Oxford Street to see their fashionable take on the festive season, which is all a bit like ‘Gulliver’s Travels’ with its oversized gifts and tiny people and animals.

The windows are amazing and probably the department store’s best to-date, I love the oversized concept – from the giant Charlotte Olympia kitty shoe with twitching ears to an larger-than-life YSL clutch, a fantasy sized Play-Doh and the largest pair of Dr Dre Beat headphones you will ever see. Plus there is a special window for my favourite doll, Barbie.

These windows are certainly a sight to see, my pictures don’t really show off the wonder at looking at them in person. What I loved about seeing the windows up close was that I wasn’t alone, yesterday I took in the creative displays with an elderly couple, they were super sweet and they were telling me that each year they take in all the windows as a festive treat – so cute!!!

As well as loving all the oversized gifts, what captured my attention the most were all the little details, and when I say little I mean the little Santa’s dancing, playing instruments and directing airplanes, the penguins playing, the skaters on the Grey Goose drink, and the elves dancing – seriously adorable. Oh and who couldn’t love the snowy landscapes.

Have you been to check out Selfridges’ Christmas windows yet and visiting the emporium on the fourth floor?

Christmas Windows: A Trip Down London’s Bond Street

I love Christmas and one of my favourite activities is to wander around London and check out all the amazing window displays. I love how retailers always step up their creativity and this year is no exception. I will be bringing you the wonders of the department stores such as SelfridgesLiberty London and Harrods, but first I wanted to take you on a trip down London’s Bond Street and bring you my favourite festive displays from the likes of Mulberry, Ralph Lauren, Tiffany’s, and Cartier who have literally wrapped up their store.

Tiffany & Co:

One of the most enchanting windows has to be from Tiffany’s, the master of romance have produced doll-sized windows celebrating the magic of the season, centred around ‘My True Love Gave To Me’. Basically this is a look inside the perfect Tiffany & Co town house – starting with the Tiffany blue door to the striking chandelier, and the grand entrance. I think Barbie would definitely approve!!!

Ralph Lauren:

Next up is a white Christmas courtesy of Ralph Lauren, who have dressed their windows in a dramatic winter wonderland full of glamour – and while taking the pictures I was even treated to a choir singing Christmas carols – very festive.

Mulberry:

Mulberry has gone all gold, scattering its windows with oversized padlocks, keys and Christmas cards to place inside the Mulberry postbox.

Fenwicks:

One of the highlights of my Bond Street wander had to be the Fenwick windows, which were dark, sparkly and very different – I loved the Gothic edge and how the clothes and accessories reflected in the wall covered baubles.

Do you love taking in Christmas windows while shopping? Let me know if you have seen any special as I love hunting down creative displays. For more pictures head on over to my Facebook page where I have added more of my trip down London’s Bond Street.
