Oscars 2014: Best Dressed – Cate Blanchett In Armani Prive

Oscars-armani-cate-blanchet

Who: Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett

Where: At the 86th Academy Awards held in Los Angeles, California

Wearing: A nude gold Armani Prive gown with a tulle skirt, and embroidered with dégradé sequins and Swarovski crystals from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, teamed with Chopard opal and diamond earrings

Verdict: Wow, the Blue Jasmine star looked incredible in this textured beauty of a gown by Armani Prive. The designer wasn’t much of a surprise, but I was surprised by the romantic, floated nature of the gown, I was thinking that she would go for something a little more structured and avant garde. I am definitely not complaining, this Princess dress looked amazing on her, and really photographed all the embroidery really well.

The only thing that made this look not shine as bright as Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace or Lupita Nyong’o in Prada was the nude, champagne hue of the gown, which seemed to be all the stars go-to colour. Stars including Idina Menzel in Reem Acra, her Blue Jasmine co-star Sally Hawkins in Valentino and Portia de Rossi in a Naeem Khan, as well as Jessica Biel in Chanel Couture and Kristin Bell in a Roberto Cavalli all wore the shade. It kind of made Cate’s not as special looking back across all the red carpet images.

Saying that I still love this gown, the mixture of the textures with the romantic floaty silhouette really is gorgeous.

I also love. love, love those statement opal and diamond Chopard earrings – it really made her Hollywood glamour look.

Oscars 2014: Penelope Cruz In Giambattista Valli & Chopard

Oscars-chopard-penelope-cruWho: Penelope Cruz

Where: At the 86th Academy Awards held in Los Angeles, California

Wearing: A soft pink chiffon Giambattista Valli Couture one-shoulder gown with a black bow waistband, teamed with Chopard diamond chandelier earrings and bracelet

Verdict: There is something about Penelope Cruz that she was one of the stars I was excited to see tonight, and she really didn’t disappoint in this romantic cape-like custom Giambattista Valli Couture gown.

In past years we have seen Penelope work sexy and dramatic looks and it was nice to see her work an elegant, romantic look in this Grecian-esq draped gown. I loved everything from the colour to the one-shoulder to the black bow accent nipping in her waist.

Adding to her look was her stunning Chopard jewels, everyone is seems went for statement earrings tonight and these chandelier beauties were divine.

Finishing off her stunning look was flawless make-up and a topknot. Penelope Cruz just knows how to work an Oscars red carpet.

Cannes Film Festival: Monochrome Starlets – Emma Watson vs Jennifer Lawrence

cannes-emma-vs-jennifer

Monochrome isn’t just a huge trend on the high street at the moment but also on the red carpet. Just last week we saw Diane Kruger making her black and white statement and now is the turn of Hollywood starlets Emma Watson and Jennifer Lawrence at Cannes.

Generally known for its ‘Go Big or Go Home’ attitude, Cannes has been a little subdue this year, there have been a few big moments thanks to Fan Bingbing and Sonam Kapoor, but on the whole it has been more of an elegant, sophisticated affair, and Emma and Jennifer are certainly leading the way.

Not only is it a battle of the franchise starlets – Hermione vs Katniss, but also between the French fashion houses Chanel and Dior, and I have to be honest I think it is too tight to call which actress/designer wins this round.

I love that Emma has returned to her Chanel roots, and this is a gorgeous off-white silk crepon dress with black embroidered sequins on the bodice. What makes this dress work is that it’s sophisticated without ageing her, thanks to the sparkly bodice, spaghetti straps and the open back – it really does give this dress a sexy and youthful vibe.

On the other hand Jennifer in Cannes promoting the next edition of The Hunger Games is continuing her love affair with Dior in this monochrome look to the Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian) premiere. Wearing a reworked look from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, I love how this strapless dress is simple  with a dramatic twist with the black asymmetric skirt and it works perfectly with her perspex Charlotte Olympia clutch and Chopard jewellery.

While I might be on the fence with who gets my vote for best dressed, I have to give hair and make-up to Jennifer as I am just loving her tousled do and red lips.

So who wins the battle of the monochrome for you – Emma or Jennifer?

Cannes Film Festival: Fan Bingbing In Elie Saab Couture

CAnnes-fan-elie-saab-

Who: Chinese actress Fan Bingbing

Where: At the “Jeune & Jolie” premiere during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival at Grand Theatre Lumiere

Wearing: A yellow Elie Saab Haute Couture gown featuring a beaded bodice and full skirt from the spring 2012 collection, teamed with a metallic box clutch and Chopard jewels

Verdict: This is what Cannes is all about, gorgeous, gorgeous gowns and you don’t get much better than Elie Saab Haute Couture.

I do love summery colours on the red carpet and this yellow gown looks amazing on Fan Bingbing, I have to be honest I love everything about the look from the embellished bodice to the skinny bow belt to the textured skirt – it really is a Princess gown.

If the dress wasn’t dreamy enough then Fan finishes off her look with the most exquisite jewellery, check out those heart shaped Chopard diamond earrings, an elegant braided up-do and striking orange lips – she really is stunning.

I really do love that Fan really goes for it when she hits the red carpet, I really think more Hollywood starlets should take notes!!!

Do you love Fan’s summery Elie Saab gown as much as I do?
