Fashion: My Top Five SS15 Campaigns

SS15-Valentino-Michal-PudelNormally for me it is the autumn/winter campaigns that really brings the fashion alive, maybe I say that because for me the winter collections are what I love to see on the catwalk, but these five fashion houses are really making me love spring/summer with their incredible fashion ads.

There is a stripped back feel to all the campaigns this season, I don’t mean that there isn’t as much money pouring into them or that they are less creative, just that the clothes are doing the talking rather than a celebrity face, well except Julia Roberts, who even appears in complete contrast to her perfume ambassadors days in a make-up free shot for the Givenchy campaign. There is a hint of darkness in some, especially Valentino and Prada, as well as oozing coolness from the likes of Chloé and Coach.

It was hard to pick just five campaigns to be honest as I absolutely love Kit Harington for Jimmy Choo, Joan Didion showing that age is just a number for Celine and Naomi Campbell and Jourdan Dunn looking stunning for Burberry.

SS15-Valentino-MichalPudel-

First up Valentino, not only are they gorgeous, as always, I love the cinematographic vision of this campaign, as well as the darkness and the beauty of the floating models. But what I absolutely love about this campaign is that it isn’t shot by Steven Meisel, or Tim Walker, or Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, which don’t get me wrong I adore, but I am so pleased to see a major fashion house tapping a relatively unknown photographer in Slovakian Michal Pudelka to helm their spring/summer 2015 campaign.

Shot in Tuscany on the beaches and in the woods of Punta Ala, there is something mesmerising and spooky about this campaign, as well as poetic and romantic that I adore and I really think it standouts out from the rest.

SS15Coach2

In total contrast with have an uber cool campaign from Coach, shot by Steven Meisel his second campaign for the New York-based accessories and apparel brand, and I really think it showcases British designer Stuart Vevers‘ updated vision for the brand to make it equally about the bags as well as clothes, while adding that laidback cool feel, which really comes across in the muted pastel palette of the group shot. Plus can we please also discuss how incredible Valery Kaufman looks? For me she is one of hot models of the moment.

SS15Coach1 SS15-Givenchy-Julia-Roberts

Normally ad campaigns are filled with celebrities, not that I don’t like that, but I feel that Julia Roberts for Givenchy, shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott is different, maybe it is because they are in black and white, maybe it is because she isn’t wearing any make-up, or maybe it is down to the fact they deliberately avoid using her famous smile in the images.

Like with Valentino there is a darkness to the images, while still having that sexiness that Julia is known for, as well as a hint of masculinity, the pants suit shot has to be my favourite. But I think what makes this a great campaign, styled by Katy England, has to be how honest it is, which is unusual in the fashion industry.

I just adore that it isn’t the Pretty Woman Julia Roberts that everyone expects and loves, for me this is a so much better, I really think she looks beautiful.

SS15-Givenchy-JuliaRoberts- SS15-Prada-5

Prada is always one of my favourite campaigns, do you remember the chic gas station from a couple of seasons ago, and the chess board setting? I feel that Miuccia Prada and Steven Meisel really make a great team and this is another strong campaign that really is a lot moodier than you expect from Prada, which is probably why I like it even more.

I really do love the offbeat details from this campaign such as the wet-look, matted hair, the haunted looks on the models faces, as well as the odd placement of the accessories, which works well with the contradictory storyline of a woman that exudes confidence, is uninhibited and carefree, while still remaining in control.

The black and white images are my favourite, especially the seductive bedroom scene, where she has just casually flung herself onto her bed, as well as the graffiti pastel backdrop you can just about make-out. The campaign really does highlight how strong the Prada bag collection is this season.

SS15-Prada-1 SS15-Chloe-1

OK, so this isn’t the most creative or technical of campaigns, but it is the one each season I gush over, as one day I hope that I will be a Chloé girl and that I too will be able to pull off that 70’s vibe. Basically I have a serious girl crush not only on the brand but on the perfect Chloé girls that model the campaign, which this season is the gorgeous Caroline Trentini and Eniko Mihalik, who both just have a nymph-like quality about them floating down the sandy beach in their maxi dresses.

As well as the beautiful models, this campaign, shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin also has the most stunning setting in Paradise Cove, California, which has so been filed away in my wanderlust folder on Pinterest, the striking horses, as well as the chic Drew bag that is high on my SS15 wishlist.

This campaign is basically the idyllic summer I dream of each year.

Wedding Inspiration: How To Find Your Perfect Scent

Wedding-scent-5

I am such a lover of fragrances, I really do love how certain smells bring back memories, so when it came to my wedding day I knew that I wanted a new scent, something special and romantic, and ideally a fragrance that would conjure up memories of my wedding day for years to come.

Quite a hard task for a scent, especially as I wanted something new and I seem to have added a lot to my collection over the years. I asked a lot of my friends what they did on their wedding day and quite a few just used their favourite scent rather than a new one, but I do love the idea of a fragrance that represents the joy, happiness and love of a wedding day.

There are lots of gorgeous options out there, from the classic Christian Dior J’adore, the fun Dolce & Gabbana Dolce, as well as the sweet Marc Jacobs Lola, and the romantic Carven Le Parfum, which is my current go-to scent. I also loved Stella McCartney, Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb, Elie Saab Le Parfum, Giorgio Armani Code, and you have to try Oscar de la Renta’s Something Blue, which can be your scent as well as your something blue.

In the end it was a hard choice but I think I have found a winner in Chloé, I just fell in love with its romantic rose scent, as well as the hint of peonies and lychee. It just has an effortless chic about it, simply yet still sexy and luxurious, and as soon as I tried it I knew it was the one. The fact that the bottle is exquisite just made it even easier to commit. I really can’t wait to wear this beautiful scent on my wedding day.

Wedding-scent-7

I kind of stumbled upon my wedding scent, after trying nearly ever fragrance in the store, so to make it a little easier for you I spoke to the experts at The Perfume Shop for the top tips on selecting the ultimate scent:

  • Perfume is individual, each scent is different to different people. As a conductor of our senses, everyone’s skin reacts differently to others! It is therefore important to spray the perfume on your skin rather than on a blotter and leave it to settle.
  • Everyone wants their perfume to be long-lasting and whilst EDP last longer on the skin than EDT, consider layering with body lines such as lotions and shower gels.
  • EDP gives a stronger scent so is perfect for evening occasions whilst an EDT is great for everyday use where it will be sprayed multiple times throughout the day.
  • There are other pulse points than just your wrists and neck. Try spraying behind the knees, the ears or in the hollow of your arms.
  • As winter approaches it is important to remember that scents vary from season to season. Scent does not usually last as long in cooler months as the skin is not as hydrated. Opt for a heavier scent during the winter.

Good luck on finding your wedding scent and leave me a message below with what you went for.

I can’t believe I get married in 4 days!!!

Shopping: The Outnet’s 5th Birthday Collection

The-Outnet-5th-birthday-3

Can you believe that The Outnet is only 5 years old? For me it seems to have been around for as long as its higher-end, exclusive big sister Net-a-Porter, and it really has come a long way since its days as just a clearance outlet. Yeah it has always been the place to go for a designer bargain but the past 18-months or so I have really found it a go-to site when shopping for any occasion, not only for discounted gear but also for its Iris & Ink in-house collection of luxury staples and its accessories are always so incredible, my last few designer handbags have come from The Outnet.

So to celebrate its 5th Birthday, The Outnet has teamed up with 17 amazing designers including Alexander McQueen, Balmain, Chloé and J.W.Anderson to produce a collection featuring their re-issued, best-loved pieces and I basically want everything!!!

A few weeks ago I got to check out the collection, basically imagined spending away my wedding fund, and styled up a few of my favourite pieces, which is hard when the line also includes Oscar de la Renta, Jason Wu, Nicholas Kirkwood and Haizhen Wang and starts at just £130.

Of course I instantly fell in love with the accessories – the Squeeze It’ patent-leather Alexander McQueen clutch is to-die-for, I love it so much and the £357 price-tag isn’t bag for a classic piece like this, and pair it with those Nicholas Kirkwood panelled suede heels for £318 and you have some killer accessories to jazz up any look. I also loved the classic dark-brown Chloé wedges, a bargain at £225, I think these will be an instant sell-out, as will the statement Oscar de la Renta resin and gold-tone floral necklace, £265.The-Outnet-5th-birthday-2

If I had to pick a look from the collection that I would love to wear I think it would have to be the Haizhen Wang black leather jacket, the shape at the back is gorgeous, teamed with the romantic floral-print silk-jacquard Jason Wu dress, paired with those stunning Nicholas Kirkwood heels, and the bold red Oscar de la Renta necklace. I would love to throw in the McQueen clutch but that might just be a little too much!!!

There were also a couple of great looks to wear to a summer wedding for an elegant affair why not try Roland Mouret’s sky-blue O’Hara dress, the colour and fit of this dress is perfection, I really love the folded neck detailing and exposed zip down the back. While a cool, hip wedding you could go for this fun printed silk and moiré pencil Preen by Thornton Bregazzi skirt, team with a white blouse or a crisp white T-shirt and bright accessories.

The-Outnet-5th-birthday-14

There are just so many options with this fabulous limited edition collection, but trust me don’t wait around long I think most of these pieces will be instant sell-outs.

Which The Outnet 5th Birthday collection pieces do you have your eye on?

Beauty Bytes: Chloé’s Fringe Love Affair

SS14-chloe-3

I have a love-hate affair with my fringe, when cut well I adore it, when cut badly or getting too long I despise it – but seeing Chloé’s stunning spring/summer 2014 campaign makes me realise how much I do love fringes.

The care-free seventies feel to this ‘last weekend of summer’ campaign is perfection, not only do I wish I was a Chloé girl like Lou Doillon and Julia Stegner, I also need to know the key to their impeccable bangs.

Each shot is amazing, I love the contrast between the blonde and brunette styles, but my favourite shot has to be how their fringes sit behind those oversized sunglasses – now if only I could look as chic with my out-of-control hair!!!

Do you have a love-hate affair with your fringe?

Shopping: All About The Scallop Detailing

Like with pleating there is something feminine and delicate about scalloped detailing that gives clothing an instant summer boost for me. Everyone from Victoria Beckham to Jill Stuart, Missoni and DvF have used scalloped detailing in recent years, but one collection that always makes me think of scallop hems has to be Chloé’s spring/summer 2009 collection. British designer Hannah MacGibbon created a gorgeous feminine line that even now keeps on influencing the high-streets summer offerings, and even Kate Bosworth as spotted reviving her Chloé SS09 shorts recently.

I don’t know why but scalloped hems are perfect for making a plain tee or shorts look fun and interesting, plus it gives any look a girlie vibe without being too girlie if you know what I mean. Whether it’s on dresses, separates, or accessories the high street is full of great options and I have picked out my favourites.

1. Warehouse Scalloped Edge Dress, £17 was £25 – I have this beauty and it is super flatter, comfortable and such a great price.

2. Miss Selfridge Scalloped Detail Denim Dress, £18 was £36

3. ASOS Textured Pencil Dress with Scalloped Edge, £27 was £45

4. Three Floor Swoon Scallop Dress, £78

1. River Island Black Cover Block Vest, £25

2. Topshop Co-ord Scallop Edge Shorts, £36

3. Oasis Scallop Denim Skirt, £25 was £40

4. ASOS Shirt With Scalloped Collar£25

1. Lulu Guinness Navy Perforated Leather Scalloped Small Wanda, £175

2. See by Chloé Scalloped Flats, £148 at Farfetch

3. Topshop Leather Scallop Cross Body Bag, £32

4. Pieces Ninel Skinny Belt, £7 at ASOS

5. Schuh Cameo Polka Dot Bow Striped Flats, £24

So what do you think – will you be rocking a scallop hemline this summer? If you do, my advice is to only work one piece of scallop per look.

Trend Alert: Sneakers Hot Property For 2012

Sneakers, hi-tops or trainers, whatever you want to call these casual flats you are going to see a lot more of them this year. Designers including Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang, Chloe and Miu Miu have introduced them into their sports luxe inspired collections with sparkling results that have led to very long waiting lists. Don’t get me wrong I love a statement heel but sometimes a comfortable flat is just what you’re after, if you are fed up with brogues and ballet pumps then I suggest you try out an old-school sneaker!!

1. Miu Miu, Patent-leather high-top sneakers, £325, Net-a-Porter.com

2. Converse, Rainbow print hi trainers, £43, Schuh

3. adidas, Midiru court mid ii trainers, £60, Schuh

4. Ash, Cool wedge coral suede trainer, £139, Ashfootwear.co.uk

5. Chloé, Suede, leather and ayers high-top sneakers, £365, Net-a-Porter.com

6. Lanvin, Diamond-print canvas and leather high-top sneakers, £430, Net-a-Porter.com

7. Michael Michael Kors, Black MK City High Top, £110, My-Wardrobe.com

8. Isabel Marant, Willow High-Top Sneakers come in Beige Noir and Black Blue, they are currently out of stock everywhere, but I hear that they are hitting stores again in February.

9. Be&D, Big City Sneaker, £85, Beandd.com

What to wear with your sneakers with? Well why not team with a chunky sweater dress or with your skinny jeans and a statement blouse, or why not add a sport-luxe vibe to your maxi skirt or dress. Seriously there are so many possibilities.

Still unsure, well it seems that hi-tops are the latest celebrity ‘It’ shoe with the likes of Alicia Keys, Emma Watson and Anne Hathaway spotted in the covetable Isabel Marant styles. For the more affordable price I love the Ash copies – they come in a number of colourways but these red ones really stand out – also the hidden wedge means that you still get the height!!!

HTC Rhyme: Charlize Theron In Chloe

Who: Actress Charlize Theron

Where: At the HTC Rhyme launch party held at the Highline Stages in New York

Wearing: A gorgeous jade green Chloe dress from the Resort 2012 collection, teamed with gladiator-style flats and an olive clutch

Verdict: Charlize may have only graced the party for a matter of minutes, and her publicist might have been a bit of a pitbull, but wow was it amazing to see Charlize up-close-and-personal as she is simply stunning. I love this casual vibe from her, the drawstring tie waist was perfect for the very relaxed environment at the HTC party, and I loved her even more for not wearing heals, now if only we had consulted before hand!!!

Leighton Meester made a beeline for Charlize as soon as she came in, seems unlikely circles to mix in but they seemed very familiar and happy to see one another. Out of the two looks, I think Leighton pips her for best dressed of the night.
