Cannes Film Festival: Monochrome Starlets – Emma Watson vs Jennifer Lawrence

Monochrome isn’t just a huge trend on the high street at the moment but also on the red carpet. Just last week we saw Diane Kruger making her black and white statement and now is the turn of Hollywood starlets Emma Watson and Jennifer Lawrence at Cannes.

Generally known for its ‘Go Big or Go Home’ attitude, Cannes has been a little subdue this year, there have been a few big moments thanks to Fan Bingbing and Sonam Kapoor, but on the whole it has been more of an elegant, sophisticated affair, and Emma and Jennifer are certainly leading the way.

Not only is it a battle of the franchise starlets – Hermione vs Katniss, but also between the French fashion houses Chanel and Dior, and I have to be honest I think it is too tight to call which actress/designer wins this round.

I love that Emma has returned to her Chanel roots, and this is a gorgeous off-white silk crepon dress with black embroidered sequins on the bodice. What makes this dress work is that it’s sophisticated without ageing her, thanks to the sparkly bodice, spaghetti straps and the open back – it really does give this dress a sexy and youthful vibe.

On the other hand Jennifer in Cannes promoting the next edition of The Hunger Games is continuing her love affair with Dior in this monochrome look to the Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian) premiere. Wearing a reworked look from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, I love how this strapless dress is simple with a dramatic twist with the black asymmetric skirt and it works perfectly with her perspex Charlotte Olympia clutch and Chopard jewellery.

While I might be on the fence with who gets my vote for best dressed, I have to give hair and make-up to Jennifer as I am just loving her tousled do and red lips.

So who wins the battle of the monochrome for you – Emma or Jennifer?

Shoe Lust: Charlotte Olympia Brings Fairy Tales To Life

There is always something magical and quirky about Charlotte Olympia’s collections, whether it is the iconic kitty flats, her signature spider web or the adorable sculpted poodle heels, you are always guaranteed statement shoes.

Last week I was treated to a preview of Charlotte Olympia’s autumn/winter 2013 collection, Once Upon A Time, inspired by “classic children’s fables and magical fairy tales” including some of my favourites – Sleeping Beauty, Little Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel.

I think I literally oohed and ahhed all the way round, gushing over the ‘Damsel in Distress’ booties with a tower as a heel, the sparkly ‘She Wolf’ heels, the ‘Enchanted’ gold tree stump heels, the ‘Rapunzel Rapunzel’ platforms with gold braided t-bar straps for her golden hair, I adore her hot red lips and fluttering lashes, and the cutest version of little red riding hood I have ever seen.

It is hard to name just one as my favourite, so I have gone for three – the ’Sleeping Beauty’ court shoes, she really is the fairest of them all, the ‘Fashionably Late’ flats that come in an array of colours, and each has adjustable clocks, and I couldn’t leave out the updated ‘Kitty’ flats, which for autumn will be the ‘Sleeping Kitty’, love, love, love!!!

As well as fabulous shoes, Charlotte Olympia also does some of the best clutches around, my favourites being the perspex ‘Pandora’ clutch that has been give a fairy tale makeover – featuring a frog, crown and my favourite the Wind Up’ key.

Charlotte Olympia: Would You Wear Your Zodiac On Your Shoes?

So what do your shoes say about you? Well, these adorable birthday shoes from Charlotte Olympia can share with the world your star-sign, perfect I think on a first date, or just to add a quirky touch to your look.

Taking inspiration from the four elements – earth, air, fire and water, these gorgeous suede slipper-style flats are in the most luxurious colours from vibrant blue for Scorpio to a delicate pink for Cancer, and each has a striking gold hand-painted enamel Zodiac symbol, which has been embellished with Swarovski crystals. I have to be honest I am serious in love with them.

As a Gemini I was instantly drawn to the sky blue twins, the silver-maned beauties embellished in a heart look so adorable with Swarovski crystals dotted in their hair. I also love that each pair comes with a little Charlotte Olympia horoscope book, apparently I am very indecisive, which will lead me to want a pair in every colour – so true!!!

I am a little jealous of some of the other star-signs, the mustard coloured Sagittarius pair with their Wonder Woman-style crossbow, the rich purple Pisces flats, and the roar of the Leo lion, and the bold Taurus bulls. I am not sure if it is right to wear a star-sign that isn’t your own, even if they are adorable.

Priced at £495 each, the cute birthday shoes can be matched with a Zodiac Pandora perspex clutch for £695. This is a super loud hint to my loved ones for my birthday in June – I would love a pair of the Gemini flats!!!

SAG Awards: Sofia Vergara In Donna Karan Atelier

Who: Sofia Vergara

Where: At the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles

Wearing: A white gold liquid lame Donna Karan Atelier gown featuring one-shoulder detailing and a loosely draped skirt with slit, teamed with white Charlotte Olympia heels and Neil Lane jewels

Verdict: Combine Sofia’s va-va-voom with the incredible craftsmanship of Donna Karan and you get a subtle-yet-sexy gown that still shows off the Modern Family’s star’s curves and sex appeal, while being glamorous.

I love the bodice to this dress with the asymmetrical one-shoulder as well as the draping around the bust – it just has a modern feel to it with the shimmery fabric.

Street Style: Jennifer Lopez Shines In Hollywood

Who: Jennifer Lopez

Where: Arriving at the Civic Center for the American Idol’s Hollywood Week auditions this week

Wearing: Flared white Milly trousers, a black top, with a divine mustard Hamilton wool-crepe The Row coat from the autumn/winter 2011 collection, teamed with Charlotte Olympia Dolly platforms and over-sized sunglasses. Finishing off this sophisticated daytime look is a very glamorous Giambattista Valli leopard-print clutch, which works perfectly against that bright coat.

Verdict: I am loving Jennifer Lopez since she started on American Idol and I was excited to see her wearing the Olsen twins The Row recently in Hollywood, especially this perfect mustard yellow. I loved the 70s vibe of the whole look from the white flared trousers to her Charlie’s Angels bouncy hair and those huge sunglasses – she works this look to perfection and I adore it.

Xmas 2011: I Want Selfridges Miniature Shoe Collection

I attend a lot of press days whether it is spring/summer or autumn/winter but my favourite has to be Christmas in July, and it doesn’t get any better than seeing what Selfridges has to offer for the festive season. For 2011, Selfridges theme is White Christmas and I have to admit I can’t wait to see the windows when they are unveiled in October, they are going to be fabulous.

As well as the fake snow, the polar bear tree ornaments, but I was completely drawn to the miniature accessory advent calendar. I am not just not talking about small shoes and handbags, I am talking about miniature designer replicas. All Selfridges concept, they have spoken to their favourite shoe and handbag designers including Charlotte Olympia, Lanvin, Vivienne Westwood, Christian Louboutin, Rupert Sanderson, Repetto, and even Havianas, to design mini versions for the most elaborate advent calendar I have ever seen.

For a cool £18,000, you will get a different miniature accessory each day in the run up to December 25, with each piece housed in its own drawer that can be unlocked through a different code, and all of that is delivered in a gorgeous one-off piece of furniture by Hendzel and Hunt. I only saw a mock-up but this is one seriously extravagant pre-Christmas gift and is strictly limited edition, now where the hell I am going to find that much money??

As well as glittery Dior, there are mini Dr Martens, tiny Havianas flip-flops, but my favourites had to be the various shades of Charlotte Olympia, you can see how different they are in size when you see them side-by-side with the full-size shoe.

Apparently you will be able to buy some of these shoes separately as well, so always wanted a pair of designer shoes, this might be ideal.

As well as miniature shoes there was a limited edition Victoria Beckham crocodile white bag, a white Alexander McQueen union jack clutch, quirky underwear from House of Holland with slogans such as Fullbush, Bald, Blonde and Redhead, a framed A Christmas Carol, and some cute Misfits toys.

Please can I have this Make Your Own Misfits book? I love these quirky beauties, they would look totally at home alongside all my other cool bits in my room.

If the shoe advent calendar is a little excessive how about this beauty one?

How amazing does this look? Each window houses a dinky size version of some of Selfridges’ popular beauty products, these include brands Kiehls, YSL, Shu Uemura, Lancome, and Armani. Better price point as well as this amazing set is £70, on sale in October.

As well as luxury gifts I always find that Selfridges offers some of the best stocking fillers, my favourite has to be these Mr Choco-Late fun chocolate moustaches, only £4.99. I also loved all their animal tree decorations.

Morning Glory: Rachel McAdams Sexy In Suno

Wearing: A Suno Suspender dress from the spring/summer 2011 collection paired with deep purple Charlotte Olympia heels

Verdict: Wow what a dress!! I loved her scarlet red Michael Kors dress she wore in Berlin, but this is a cute-yet-sexy number and she really pulls off that plunging neckline.

I was first introduced to this label when Michelle Williams wore in Cannes, and it really is the go-to label when you are after a mini-dress with charm-yet-sex appeal.
