Red Carpet: Golden Globes 2012 – My Best Dressed

I always find it hard narrowing down my best dressed list, it is easier to say what I don’t like, as I fall in love a lot with red carpet gowns so naming just five is hard. Last year was a little easier because there was Olivia Wilde’s princess gown, Anne Hathaway as a gold goddess and Angelina Jolie in an emerald-green Atelier Versace, the only one to return this year’s red carpet. But here they are – in no particular order – as I couldn’t decide on an order!!

Statement Dress

Well there were a lot of boring gowns this year and for those who went for something a little bit different they really stood out for me as that is what award ceremonies are all about. For me the dress that made the most of a statement was Sarah Michelle Gellar’s gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown. This blue ink splotched ball gown made me swoon when I saw it on TV that I knew instantly that I had to include it. I know it is a controversial choice and for most this dress doesn’t work on her tiny frame but I kind of like that about it. Also she said her 2-year-old had a hand in picking it out – what a great a-list styling career she has ahead of her – this is a genius choice.

I couldn’t have a best-dressed list without including one of the hottest trends from this year’s awards the fishtail. I liked a lot from the classic style on Sofia to the sexiness of Reese, but for me Evan Rachel Wood’s edgy Gucci gown is just exquisite. Everything from the scale sequins to the feathered skirt and train, to the unusual dark green colour – it really is a knock-out gown.

Couldn’t be a best dressed list with a romantic, fairy tale type dress, last year I went with the traditional princess ball gown of Olivia Wilde, this year is a little unconventional but still just as gorgeous, Charlize Theron and her dusky-pink Dior couture gown. I love the oversized bow, the sexy thigh-high split and plunging neckline, but most of all I love the vintage accessories and the colour is just perfection.

The excitement was in the air at Angelina Jolie hitting the red carpet with Brad Pitt and she most certainly came prepared with a gorgeous Atelier Versace gown. What I loved the most about this gown, other than it being on Angie she never seems to get it wrong during award season, has to be how it fits her perfectly. I also adore the fashion-forward thinking of including the red flash at the neckline, it stops this dress looking a little dated, it also works superbly with her coordinated hot red lippy.

Young Starlets

I know technically I only have one spot left on my top five but I just couldn’t choose between the Hollywood starlets Emma Stone, Dianna Agron and Zooey Deschanel. Emma for me was all about the unusual pairing of purple and fuchsia in her Lanvin gown and of course that fierce eagle belt. I have to support Dianna for her excellent choice in wearing a Giles dress, not only was it the most intricate detailed dress on the red carpet, it was a huge risk for her to go for a relative unknown designer in terms of red carpet looks – but I am so glad she did as she is a vision in red. As my latest girl crush I had to include Zooey, not only did she have the best nails see below, but I was so pleased to see Prada on the Golden Globes red carpet again. What a way to return with a gorgeous green silk gown with an open back and pearl embroidered top – simply gorgeous.

Honorary Mention

I know I already over my top five but I had to include Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann, it is the perfect mix of masculine and feminine and she looks incredible. What I love so much about this tailored-suit shape has to be the ice-blue colour – so divine. Also a special mention has to go to her amazing Pomellato jewellery cuffs – HOT!!!

So who gets your vote for best dress – leave me a comment below and let me know.

Golden Globes: Charlize Theron In Dior Couture

Who: Charlize Theron

Where: At the 69th Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles

Wearing: A dusty rose silk chiffon Dior Haute Couture gown with a plunging neckline, sash detailing to the hip, a thigh-high spilt and a train, accented with a Cartier brooch on her waist from 1951; teamed with a vintage Cartier headband, a museum piece comprised of platinum and round-old-cut and rose-cut diamonds from 1920

Verdict: Charlize isn’t afraid to wear something different and along with Sarah Michelle Gellar I think this Couture gown was one of the most dramatic looks of the night. She was also hot on trend as well with her nude hue and headband, which seem to be everywhere – but she most certainly showed how to do it well. This gown also had a grace about it, which you would expect from something that showed off both cleavage and leg, but it moved so well on the red carpet.

Charlize most certainly gets on my best dressed list – this dress is divine.

W Magazine Party: Charlize Theron In Alexander McQueen

Who: Charlize Theron

Where: At the W Magazine and Dom Perignon Golden Globe party in Los Angeles

Wearing: A black Alexander McQueen dress with lace detailing from the spring/summer 2012 collection

Verdict: Kind of safe in black, but kind of sexy with the lingerie-inspired detailing with the lace touches, but then on further reflection this dress also has a ladylike quality with the flared skirt. I like it, feel like it is more a press conference or photocall than a party, but you know with the Golden Globes nearly upon us maybe she wanted to save herself for tonight.

Young Adult: Charlize Theron In Stella McCartney

Who: Charlize Theron

Where: At the Young Adult premiere in Los Angeles

Wearing: A one-shouldered black, midnight blue and white asymmetrical bone silk crepe bennet Stella McCartney dress with embroidery and mesh panel detailing, teamed with a white box clutch, both from the spring/summer 2012 collection. Charlize finishes off her look with Manolo Blahnik heels and jewels from Harry Winston.

Verdict: I have to admit I am on the fence with this look. I want to like it because it’s a little different and the midnight blue works perfectly on the red carpet, plus the wave effect on the bust and hem does work nicely. However, I am just not loving the combination of the colours, I think one block colour might have worked better, and the one shoulder just seems a little too much with the hem detailing.

One thing I have to admit though is how stunning Charlize is looking and those shoes are fierce!!

What do you think – do you like this Stella McCartney dress?

HTC Rhyme: Charlize Theron In Chloe

Who: Actress Charlize Theron

Where: At the HTC Rhyme launch party held at the Highline Stages in New York

Wearing: A gorgeous jade green Chloe dress from the Resort 2012 collection, teamed with gladiator-style flats and an olive clutch

Verdict: Charlize may have only graced the party for a matter of minutes, and her publicist might have been a bit of a pitbull, but wow was it amazing to see Charlize up-close-and-personal as she is simply stunning. I love this casual vibe from her, the drawstring tie waist was perfect for the very relaxed environment at the HTC party, and I loved her even more for not wearing heals, now if only we had consulted before hand!!!

Leighton Meester made a beeline for Charlize as soon as she came in, seems unlikely circles to mix in but they seemed very familiar and happy to see one another. Out of the two looks, I think Leighton pips her for best dressed of the night.

Video Loving: Dior Rolls Out Its Leading Hollywood Stars

I love a fashion/beauty film, and I completely adore the new Dior J’Adore short film shot in the Galerie des Glaces at the Château de Versailles by Jean-Jacques Annaud.

Not only has it got an amazing soundtrack with the use of Gossip’s Heavy Cross song, a gorgeous glamorous leading lady in Charlize Theron, it also features cameos from Grace Kelly, Marlene Dietrich and Marylin Monroe. It is a special collaboration that works so well, and Charlize looks stunning in that gold lame dress, she really does have a great swagger for her catwalk, which I love.

I also loved the full-page advert in The Sunday Times, I love Charlize’s silhouette – it is like a sleek Dior J’Adore bottle, which might I add is one of the most stunning fragrances around.

Vanity Fair Party: Charlize Theron Angelic in Versace

Who: Academy Award winner Charlize Theron

Where: At the Vanity Fair party held at Sunset Tower in West Hollywood

Wearing: A white one-shoulder Atelier Versace gown, with draping and starburst of Swarovski crystals at the side, from the spring 2011 collection

Verdict: This is quite an angelic look on Charlize, it seems like ages since we saw her all glam, and it suits her. I love the draping but it is the Swarovski starburst that completely makes this an amazing gown.
