Elle Style Awards: Diane Kruger In Chanel Couture

Diane-Kruger-chanel-elle

So I thought the Vanity Fair red carpet would be my last celeb posting for a while, well that was until I saw Diane Kruger in this gorgeous, frothy Chanel Couture look at the Elle Style Awards. I am a sucker for Diane’s red carpet style, pink, cute, and lacy Chanel.

This Chanel Couture lace gown from the spring 2015 collection is so Diane, it is fun, edgy and so oozing with Parisian style that it is such a statement piece that not many people could pull off this look. I adore everything from the colour, it really is a delicate pale pink, as well as all the embroidery added to the bodice and skirt.

For me this look is simply enchanting and I love it. Also can you believe that this was literally a day after she hit the red carpet in Los Angeles for the Vanity Fair Oscar party – how does she look so good.

I also love that she styled the dress with silver accessories, her point-toe heels are chic, I adore her Edie Parker zig-zag clutch, plus I wish I could afford her Jaeger-LeCoultre Joaillerie 101 Art Deco watch.

This look for me is a modern-day princess and Diane pulls it off perfectly.

Runway: 3 Things I Didn’t Expect To See At Haute Couture

chane-SS15-couture-beanie

Haute couture is usually exquisitely crafted gowns, dripping in beads, sequins, Swarosvki crystals, and delicate embroideries, which have taken hundreds of hours to produce by hand – that is why I adore it so much, it showcases the brilliance of fashion and techniques that should be admired and promoted.

However, it seems that each season we get a taste of the ordinary reworked in an opulent fashion, maybe it is for shock-and-awe, maybe it is to bridge the gap between couture and ready-to-wear, or maybe it is just to make an elaborate statement.

Whatever the reason, here are three things I spotted this season that I never expected to see on a haute couture runway:

chane-SS15-couture-beanie-2#1: The Opulent Beanie

Chanel has given us couture trainers and cycling shorts in the past, but I think the reworking of the winter favourite beanie has to be my favourite ‘it’ item. I love the fact it shouldn’t work, a beanie scattered with jewels and appliquéd with chiffon flowers and butterflies, but how cool do these wacky hats look.

What I love more about these decked out beanies is that with a glue gun, some netting, and a pack of pearls and sequins is that you could have your own couture beanie in a matter of hours.

Will you be converting your favourite beanie into a couture masterpiece?

dior-ss15-couture-2: Plastic Fantastic

You expect to see silk, chiffon, and tulle being used in the construction of lavish couture pieces, so seeing plastic hit the haute couture runways at Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier was a little bit of a surprise. For Dior it was revamped plastic macs, which had printed flowers adorned on it, while at Gaultier it was more like cellophane wrapping, even being worn by Naomi Campbell didn’t make it look couture to me.

I am sure that the see-through plastic macs will be a big hit with the high street, especially come festival season, but just like with the beanie you too could DIY your very own. Take a pac-a-mac, come on you know you have one everyone does, invest in some flower appliqués and get hand-stitching them on. Start now you’ll be finished by summer for Glasto!

So who do you think will be first to wear this at Glastonbury – Alexa Chung or Kate Moss?

#3: Beekeeper Bride

At couture you expect to see wedding gowns, over-the-top spectacles that require 5 strapping male models to walk it down the runway, crazy beaded beauties, as well as those Princess gowns that make you gasp, but a beekeeper bride is a new one on me.

Jean Paul Gaultier’s entire SS15 couture show was wedding themed, including what the guests would wear to a couture wedding, but the piece that stood out for me had to be the blue jeans beekeeper gown that supermodel Lindsey Wixson took to the runway. First up it is denim, I know we expect jeans from Gaultier but on a bride, and secondly, what sort of bride would wear a beekeeping veil? Hey I suppose that’s what you call an alternative bride!!!

Did you see anything unexpected on the haute couture runways this season?

Editorial Loving: Vogue Paris – Real-Life Designer Barbie Dolls

vogueparis-dec14-Barbie-6

It has been a while since I have actually posted something on my blog that hasn’t had something to do with my wedding, sorry about that but I hope you understand that it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I just had to share. So, before I bombard you with photographs from my UK celebrations that fingers crossed you all want to see, I thought I would showcase this amazing editorial from the latest issue of Vogue Paris with real-life designer Barbie dolls.

I have always dreamed of a collection full of designer Barbie dolls, I have a Karl Lagerfeld, a Dior, a Kate Spade one, complete with a little dog, a Coach doll with the cutest bag I wish I would steal, as well as a trio of Christian Louboutin dolls with better footwear than me, so I literally gasped aloud when I saw this beautiful and creative editorial taking inspiration from the Moschino Barbie collection and dressing up each real-life doll in looks from the likes of Valentino, Chanel, Gucci and Miu Miu.

What I love most about this editorial shot by Giampaolo Sgura has to be the fact that models Elizabeth Erm and Magdalena Frackowiak have been shot like Barbie dolls inside their boxes, it is as though they are sat on a shelf in a toy store waiting for me to take them home.

The styling by creative duo Claire Dhelens and Celia Azoulay is outstanding, not only are they showcasing the designer’s latest collections but they really do illustrate what the brand is about – from the butterflies and flowers of Valentino to the David Bowie vibes of Saint Laurent, and the fun-girl pompoms of Miu Miu, and don’t get me started on the equestrian chicness of Gucci, I basically need Mattel to make that happen stat!!

It is hard to pick a favourite, I do love the total Barbie vibes of Moschino, as well as the accessories of the Louis Vuitton doll, she even has her very own doll-sized trunk, seriously swooning over that, and a Ralph Lauren air-stewardess dressed all in gold is super fun, but I think my heart belongs to Chanel, did you see her make-up, her pearl jewellery and her handbags.

It seems Barbie is very much in fashion at the moment and I love this creative-twist on showcasing the latest collections, it must have taken a lot of hours to build the sets and to meticulously attach all the accessories, and I just love that the models are such great dolls!!!

Which real-life Barbie doll is your favourite?

Cannes 2014: All About Blake Lively…Oh & Ryan Reynolds

There aren’t many actress that have really posses that Old Hollywood magic any more, that can leave you speechless and wanting more – the red carpet has become a little predictable, we all know that Jennifer Lawrence will more than likely wear Dior, and I suppose it had to happen with the importance of a stylist, a lot is riding on celebrities appearances. Which is why I am so glad that Blake Lively keeps me guessing, surprises me with her choices, and always hits the red carpet looking elegant, sexy and glamorous.

This is why the Cannes Film Festival this year really does belong to the Gossip Girls’ star, Blake has wowed on every appearance and even though she is the face of a Gucci fragrance, you know that isn’t her only go-to designer, OK it is a lot, but not always. Following on from her fabulous appearance at the Met Gala Blake really seems to be on a roll and when Gucci are providing gowns like this it is no wonder she keeps on wearing them.

Her first look was probably my favourite of her Cannes red carpet appearances, the two-tone bordeaux silk-chiffon Gucci Premiere gown that she wore to the ‘Grace of Monaco’ premiere was just divine. Not only was it interesting with its geometric neckline and open back but I adore the elegance of the pleats teamed with the sexiness of that thigh-high split, plus it really did fit her beautifully. This was also probably one of my favourite hairstyles that she sported as well, that messy high braided ponytail looks like it was taken off the SS14 runways.

Look two was very different from the first, very fashion-forward and totally stunning – wearing an iridescent ankle-length Chanel Couture dress embellished with sequins, tulle and organza embroideries from the spring/summer 2014 collection. Not many actresses could pull off this look, I actually thought that Keira Knightley would have optioned this beauty, but I think Blake carries it off well, but I do think that it would have worked better on someone not quite as busty. What I do love about this look though is the styling, it is basically a carbon-copy of the what walked down the runway, complete with a silk kimono draped around her arms.

I think look three, another Gucci Premiere gown will have a lot of people gushing, might be more about her date than the dress, there is no denying what a gorgeous couple Blake and Ryan Reynolds make. Supporting her man at his ‘Captives’ premiere, Blake really did shine in this strapless black and white silk crepe fifties inspired evening gown – I love everything about it – from the silhouette complete with a full skirt and a dramatic train to the styling of the Lorraine Schwartz diamonds on her necklaces, earrings, bracelet and engagement ring. For me this look is what Cannes is all about, big, dramatic and show-stopping.

Ryan didn’t look half bad either in his Gucci black satin peak lapel one button Signoria tuxedo – I love the white shirt, white bow-tie combination. Is there a better looking couple out there at the moment?

Which of Blake’s three looks was your favourite?

Store Loving: Inside Osprey London’s Regent Street Flagship

osprey-london-regent-st-16

There is something special about Osprey London, not only because it makes great handbags that I adore, or the fact that it really does champion British manufacturing and design, but because it is very much a family run business with founder and creative director Graeme Ellisdon at the helm, his wife Alex curating the amazing jewellery collections, and even his son Jack is on hand in the store’s Saddlery Cafe.

Much like the brand’s St Alban’s store, the Regent Street store utilises the amazing Grade II listed building, which was once a Barclay’s bank, to showcase the eclectic mix of leather accessories, jewellery, interior pieces, even knitted toys and food. Everything about the store interior is divine – from the solid oak doors at the entrance to the exquisite chandeliers and the stainless steel staircase and that’s without talking about the brand’s diverse selection of interior pieces such as gorgeous arm chairs, antique picture frames and a fun choice of cushions.

There is very much a “home” feel to the store, which is apparently the vibe that Graeme was going for, with the upstairs set out more like a fashion store with its walls covered with gorgeous leather bags and display cabinets filled with handmade jewellery, while downstairs brings a slice of the countryside into central London. I love that the store is a destination, I think I could have spent hours just picking up every last item, there is really so many things I didn’t even know I wanted for the house!!!

As well as buying gorgeous handbags and pieces for the home, the flagship also houses an informal cafe area in the style of the Saddlery Cafe at St Albans, think cute bone china tea cups, delicious cakes and one of the best hot chocolates ever. I also love that the sitting areas are situated within the former bank’s vaults – super cosy and I can’t wait to do tea and cake there soon.

If you are down the Piccadilly Circus end of Regent Street then trust me you have to pop by for a look, not only will you probably leave with a new handbag or necklace, but you will pick up lots of pinnable ideas for your home, I have my eye on a £5k multicoloured sofa.

How cure is Boris? This beauty was knitted in the UK and I love how each one comes with their own mini Osprey London cross-body bag. I seriously need one of these beauties. osprey-london-regent-st-12osprey-london-regent-st-3 osprey-london-regent-st-1 osprey-london-regent-st-18

Jack Ryan Shadow Recruit: Keira Knightley Is Pretty In Chanel

Keria-Knightley-chanel-Who: Keira Knightley

Where: At the premiere of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit at TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood

Wearing: A navy Chanel dress with white-trim around the neckline, cuffs and around the waist, and accented with bow detailing, teamed with round-toe heels and smoky blue eyes

Verdict: There aren’t many Hollywood stars that could pull this non-glam vintage-inspired look on the red carpet for a glitzy premiere, maybe Diane Kruger and most certainly my new red carpet favourite Michelle Dockery, and Keira Knightley really does pull it off with ease.

For some this look might seem a little dull and even frumpy, for me it is the dresses classic chic vibe that makes it pretty, and I adore that it is navy rather than black, a colour I am a little obsessed with and you don’t often see it on the red carpet.

As well as loving her pretty frock, it was her smoky blue eye make-up that really grabbed my attention – isn’t that just perfect with her wavy updo.

There is no denying that Keira is beautiful, but on this occasion I think she was up-staged on the red carpet by her co-star Chris Pine who just looked incredible in his tailored Ralph Lauren suit. He looks hot!!!

Are you a fan of Keira’s vintage-inspired look?
