Cannes Film Festival: Nicole Kidman Is Red Carpet Perfection

Nicole Kidman in Giorgio Armani for the closing ceremony of the 66th Cannes Film Festival

It was always going to be hard for Cannes Film Festival judge Nicole Kidman to top Diane Kruger’s run at last year’s event, but I have to give it to her she really has worked the red carpet to perfection and worn some unexpected looks that I have loved.

We started off with a gorgeous girlie Dior number, then the unexpected blue leaf-printed L’Wren Scott gown, and the Aussie actress completed her red carpet duties with a breathtaking Valentino, an on-trend monochrome Chanel dress, and finishing up her magnificent run with a white custom-made Giorgio Armani gown. Throughout the festival she really has wowed me.

What I have loved from Nicole’s red carpet looks in Cannes has to be her impeccable styling, sometimes I find I love her dress but not her hair, make-up and accessories, but it seems to have totally come together in France. From her side ponytail wore to the opening ceremony to her braided messy up-do teamed with her black and white Chanel resort gown to her elegant up-do worn with her Valentino Oscar worthy gown – I have loved that she thought about her hair.

Deciding on my best Nicole look has been hard, the floral embroidered Dior was cute, I was blown away by her frothy Valentino spring couture gown, and I loved her bright strapless L’Wren Scott dress, but I think she saved the best till last with this custom-made white silk tapered bustier Giorgio Armani gown featuring a  and v-neckline and a gold Swarovski crystal bow. This dress is simply divine.

I am sad to say bye to Cannes for another year – but excited to see who will be the red carpet star of next year’s festival.

Which of Nicole’s Cannes looks is your favourite?

Cannes Film Festival: Monochrome Starlets – Emma Watson vs Jennifer Lawrence

cannes emma vs jennifer Cannes Film Festival: Monochrome Starlets Emma Watson vs Jennifer Lawrence %tag

Monochrome isn’t just a huge trend on the high street at the moment but also on the red carpet. Just last week we saw Diane Kruger making her black and white statement and now is the turn of Hollywood starlets Emma Watson and Jennifer Lawrence at Cannes.

Generally known for its ‘Go Big or Go Home’ attitude, Cannes has been a little subdue this year, there have been a few big moments thanks to Fan Bingbing and Sonam Kapoor, but on the whole it has been more of an elegant, sophisticated affair, and Emma and Jennifer are certainly leading the way.

Not only is it a battle of the franchise starlets – Hermione vs Katniss, but also between the French fashion houses Chanel and Dior, and I have to be honest I think it is too tight to call which actress/designer wins this round.

I love that Emma has returned to her Chanel roots, and this is a gorgeous off-white silk crepon dress with black embroidered sequins on the bodice. What makes this dress work is that it’s sophisticated without ageing her, thanks to the sparkly bodice, spaghetti straps and the open back – it really does give this dress a sexy and youthful vibe.

On the other hand Jennifer in Cannes promoting the next edition of The Hunger Games is continuing her love affair with Dior in this monochrome look to the Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian) premiere. Wearing a reworked look from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, I love how this strapless dress is simple  with a dramatic twist with the black asymmetric skirt and it works perfectly with her perspex Charlotte Olympia clutch and Chopard jewellery.

While I might be on the fence with who gets my vote for best dressed, I have to give hair and make-up to Jennifer as I am just loving her tousled do and red lips.

So who wins the battle of the monochrome for you – Emma or Jennifer?

Cover Loving: Diane Kruger For S Moda

SModa april Diane Kruger 1 Cover Loving: Diane Kruger For S Moda %tag

My girl crush Diane Kruger has been on a role lately, numerous magazine covers, great reviews for her latest flick and more importantly a stylish promo tour, and then this week she was announced as the new face of the up-coming Chanel skincare advertising campaign – so when I saw this incredible cover and editorial from the April issue of Spanish magazine, S Moda, I just had to share – OMG – wow!!!

SModa april Diane Kruger 8 Cover Loving: Diane Kruger For S Moda %tagWearing a stripy sequinned Marc Jacobs jumpsuit, this is one gorgeous cover shot by David Roemer – I love everything from the pose, the position of her legs is a little awkward but I like that, to the incredible monochrome jumpsuit styled perfectly by Christopher Campbell, and then I zoned in on her face and I was completely blown away – I love the dramatic eye make-up and her wild hair. Simply beautiful.

The rest of the editorial is just as strong, so strong that I think these might be up there with some of my favourite shots of Diane, and it is all down to the styling – very edgy and so, so sexy. I love the sporty Theyskens’ Theory dress, the monochrome magic of the Lanvin ensemble where she is wearing a body and a skirt, which I am sure is a little reminiscent to the one that Jennifer Lawrence wore, and the embellished trench is divine, but my favourite has to be the all-black Salvatore Ferragamo look teamed with over-the-knee boots and chunky necklaces.

Beauty: Chanel’s Movie Tribute

chanel Avant Première Beauty: Chanels Movie Tribute %tag

The red carpet and the iconic French cinema is the latest source of inspiration for Chanel’s up-coming beauty collection, Avant-Première.

This collection just oozes old-Hollywood glamour with its intense red, bold plum and divine pink shades, and I love that the line is all about matching your lips and nails with a corresponding hue.

But what caught my attention the most, other than the fabulous shades, has to be the amazing names of the Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks and Le Vernis nail colours that perfectly encapsulate the silver-screen inspiration behind the collection.

While the nail lacquers seem to be named after the red carpet with Starlet, Paparazzi, Cinema and Provocation shades, the lipsticks are more about the backdrop of the movie with names such as Interlude, Suspense, Fiction, Synopsis and Dialogue.

Collection Avant-Premiere De Chanel is available from April 5 and I can’t wait to try out the Provocation and Starlet nail varnishes!!!

Cover Loving: Three Very Different Diane Kruger Covers

diane kruger april covers Cover Loving: Three Very Different Diane Kruger Covers %tag

I do love it when Diane Kruger has a movie coming out – not only do I get to see some fab red carpet looks,  **check out her Los Angeles premiere look** but finally there is a reason for magazines to put my favourite girl crush on their covers.

For April, Diane has really got around, gracing the cover of not one, but three different magazines, on three different continents – her reach is most certainly global. First up we have Canadian fashion mag, Flare, with Diane looking adorable in a Bottega Veneta dress, then we have a polished flawless looking Diane for Interview Germany, and then sadly we have a bizarre barley recognisable Diane on the cover of Australia magazine, Madison – what have they done to her face and hair?

Flare april diane kruger Cover Loving: Three Very Different Diane Kruger Covers %tag

Shot by Autumn De Wilde, the Flare cover is just so pretty, I am in love with her Bottega Veneta vintage-inspired tea dress from the spring/summer 2013 collection, which has been styled perfectly with those tri-colour Christian Louboutin heels and the insanely cute Louis Vuitton headband, you may recognise it from one of Kerry Washington’s fab red carpet looks earlier in the year, and of course Diane is carrying a Chanel handbag to finish her look.

The only thing I really don’t like from this cover is the insanely huge cover line ‘hello spring’ right across her – really is that going to sell the magazine more than if it wasn’t there???

The rest of the editorial is just as good, you see Diane wearing Miu Miu, Rochas, Marc Jacobs and more Chanel, as well as posing with a cute kitty.

Flare april diane kruger 1 Cover Loving: Three Very Different Diane Kruger Covers %tagFlare april diane kruger 2 Cover Loving: Three Very Different Diane Kruger Covers %tagInterview april Diane kruge Cover Loving: Three Very Different Diane Kruger Covers %tag

I love the vintage-inspired Flare cover, but I completely adore the Markus Jans shot Interview cover, Diane does flawless so well and this just beautiful. Striped back and polished, this is one hell of a profile cover, I love everything from her eyes to her barely there make-up, and even the position of her hands – this really does show off her modelling background. I really can’t wait to see the rest of the editorial.

Madison april diane kruger Cover Loving: Three Very Different Diane Kruger Covers %tag

However, Australia magazine, Madison didn’t quite impress me like the other two titles. From the neck down this cover is divine, I love the pale blue dress, I even love the flirty touch of her hitching up the skirt, but I just can’t understand why they made her look a little crazy. That hair, the make-up, the appalling OTT photoshop to her face – it really doesn’t look like Diane or even pretty. Why, Madison, why???

Which cover would you go out and buy?

Award Season: How To Achieve Anne Hathaway’s Flawless Make-Up

Anne hathaway chanel face Award Season: How To Achieve Anne Hathaways Flawless Make Up %tag

Each award season my fascinated with the red carpet grows, not only with regards what the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Hudson and Nicole Kidman are wearing, (if you missed my earlier post check out the trends of the Golden Globes here), but also with their make-up as each year it seems to get more and more refined and flawless.

One of my favourite looks of this year’s Golden Globes had to be Anne Hathaway, who not only looked gorgeous in Chanel Haute Couture but she also complemented her gown with a flawless complexion, which her Chanel make-up artist Kate Lee described as wanting her to “appear as if lit from within”.

To create the look, Chanel and Kate Lee have released the make-up used and how to achieve this flawless, elegant look, everything from the skincare to the shade used on her lips.

First Kate prepped Anne’s skin with Chanel Hydra Beauty Serum followed by Chanel Base Lumière Illuminating make-up base, and then used Chanel Vitalumière Aqua Ultra-Light Skin Perfecting foundation to keep the skin looking radiant, and then a small amount of Chanel Perfection Lumière was applied where needed.

Then a “light sweeping touch” of Poudre Signée de Chanel Illuminating Powder was used on Anne’s cheekbones to “illuminate her bone structure”, as well as along the clavicle and over the shoulder blades. Then on the apple of the cheek, a pale peach blush was used to contrast the lip colour.

For Anne’s eyes, Kate defined her eye socket with Chanel Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Fauve, which she describes as “a delicious grey/lilac shade”, on the lid and along the base of the lower lashes. Then her lashes were curled and given a coat of Chanel Inimitable Waterproof Mascara in Noir, and to make her lashes look luscious a selection of lashes were added for a “customised shape”.

Finishing off her look, and my favourite bit, “the perfect pink for a perfect pout”, Kate applied Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Seduisante.

As red carpet make-up goes, this is simple, but so, so elegant and I love it – I have put together the key pieces from the look below so why not try it out yourself.

Golden Globes 2013: Anne Hathaway In Chanel Haute Couture

Anne hathaway chanel Golden Globes 2013: Anne Hathaway In Chanel Haute Couture %tag

Who: Golden Globe-winning actress Anne Hathaway

Where: At the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California

Wearing: An ice-white beaded strapless Chanel Haute Couture column gown featuring a peplum top from the spring/summer 2009 haute couture collection, teamed with Chanel Fine Jewellery

Verdict: It seems with her pixie haircut, the Les Miserables winner has developed a more refine and elegant red carpet style and this is a stunning gown that even though a few seasons old was modern and chic.

I have to be honest I still miss her Princess moments, but I get that she is trying to be more mature, this gown did stand out on the red carpet mainly due to the winter white colour, but it just didn’t bowl me over as much as I hoped her look would.

Completing her look was flawless make-up, as always, and a gorgeous “Swing Diamant” diamond Bracelet, “Plume” diamond Bracelet and “Camellia” diamond earrings by Chanel Fine Jewellery
