My Style: When JD Met Tommy

I spend a lot of my time in jeans, from skinny to boyfriend and even the odd flared cut, in dark blue, light blue, red floral print, grey, and even a stripy pair, I just love them, but this summer I have really been embracing the good weather **where the hell has it gone** and trying to wear more summery, girlie looks.

Last week, when the sun was shining, I wore this Tommy Hilfiger beauty that I found on Amazon’s dress store, yep that place where you buy books, blu-rays, and the occasional Barbie, **I call it the online shop for the three B’s**, has opened The Dress Shop, which has thousands of dresses from brands including Cacharel, French Connection, BCBG, Great Plains, Yumi and Hoss Intropia.

It was hard to just choose one out of thousands, but it was easy to find this short-sleeved blue and white checked dress using Amazon’s easy-to-navigate search for the ‘Occasion’ with dresses for work, evening, special occasion, and casual, which is so perfect for summer dresses. You can also ‘Shop by Trend’ choosing from lace, fit & flare, colour pop, pastels, or just white, basically they have a dress for everyone and for all occasions.

What I love about this dress is that it can be dressed down with gladiator flats and a matching skinny belt, or with fancy black heels and a statement necklace, it really is a versatile piece for my wardrobe that will definitely be perfect come winter time as well.

I actually wore this for a day lounging in the park reading magazines and listening to music, which was the perfect opportunity to try out my new bright blue Monster N-Tunes headphones. I love the on-ear style, especially these ones as they are lightweight as well as being super comfortable with the padded cushions. I also loved that they come with tangle-free cables, you probably don’t believe me but trust me they really work, it is one of my pet-hates having to untangle my headphones for 10 minutes before being able to use them.

I also got to take out my new Moschino case out for my Samsung S5, this case is a limited edition style and features a peace pattern, and I love that it has a handy card pocket on the inside so you just need to take your mobile out with you on a night out. The only thing I need to get use to is the flip style, it makes it a little uncomfortable while on the phone. The best bit though is when you close the case it also turns the screen on and off, so saving battery, which is always needed with me!!!

Want to see how jealous JD got of Tommy scroll down to the bottom for a great photobombing gif!

So what do you think of my Tommy Hilfiger dress and new gadgets?

Seaside Style: Bank Holiday Day Trip To Felixstowe

Felixstowe-my-style-14What are Bank Holidays for if not a trip to the seaside, especially when it is sunny, and a chance to top up on ice-cream, candy floss, make sandcastles and play in the arcades. My boyfriend and I like a day trip, and living near Cambridge means we have a lot of gorgeous coastline in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, which isn’t that far away in the car.

Over the years we have done a lot of the beaches in Norfolk including Hunstanton and Cromer so this Bank Holiday we thought we would give Suffolk a try and head on over to Felixstowe, a seaside town we both hadn’t been to before.

Quieter than say Blackpool and Brighton, there is a charm about Felixstowe with its colourful beach huts, sea front gardens and miles of beach to stroll down while eating an ice cream. And in the sunshine this was such a great day for testing out my new Canon 650d camera and having my style snaps taken by some palm trees makes it look somewhere tropical and warm.

What did you do this Bank Holiday?

Inside The Cath Kidston House

If Cath Kidston sold houses I think it would pretty much look like this, with walls of course, decorated out with just the right mix of florals, birds, mushrooms, penguins and polka dot prints.

I love it when brands make their press days more of a presentation, something to grab my attention, something to get me excited, and this make-shift house set in the middle of central London certainly did that, the only thing that was missing was the fictional Cath Kidston family!!!

Known for its quirky English sensibility, there is something about Cath Kidston that makes it universally liked, I think practically everyone has something from the shop – whether it is a floral bone china tea cup, a dotty handbag, a strawberry cover iPhone case, or even a cowboy mug. For me Cath Kidston is the ultimately gift shop, you can always pick up something cute and memorable for a friend or family member.

What do you think – would you like to move into a Cath Kidston clad house?

In Pictures: My Desk Eye View

I have been freelance for about a month and I can tell you no matter how much I am enjoying it I have to admit it has taken some getting used to. Now instead of having to cram onto a packed train into London I make my way to the next room to my office, or as it is more happily known my tiny corner of heaven.

Here you will find my Barbie’s, well some of them I do have a lot; my trinkets, again only some of them – I am a hoarder!; my magazines – only the best stay out on the shelf, again I have so many that some sadly have to be stored behind closed doors; and generally pieces that I love and lots of gifts from my mum, Paulie and friends.

My Nicole Richie autograph sits next to my Barbie trinkets, including my B@arbrick Barbie’s from Japan, my limited edition pen that Paulie bought me in France, and one day I hope to take that cool mask to an actual masquerade ball rather than it being a cute prop in my room.

Three of my favourite Barbie’s, my two Hard Rock Cafe Barbie’s I bought * well Paulie did* in Paris, alongside my 1977 SuperStar Barbie who has the best hair!

These are two pads that came free with my French Glamour amazing aren’t they, it also remembers me of my time in Paris for fashion week, I hope that come September I am able to go again. I also love Barbie’s pink poodle keeping an eye on them!

I have loved badges since I was little, when I used them to decorate my denim jacket, they are like postcards if I see one I haven’t got I have to snap it up. Like these YSL badges I picked up in Paris when I went to the exhibition. They may be my only Yves Saint Laurent pieces but they fit perfectly with my Chanel badges.

This Chanel advert was an insert into Vanity Fair that a friend knew I would love, the brand made a huge one that sparkled on the side of Paris’s Musée d’Orsay, and I felt that I would follow suit and use it to decorate my room.

My Cath Kidston straw bag, a bargain I picked up from the sample sale that I attended while at their autumn/winter 2011 press day. I haven’t used it yet, I think because the weather hasn’t really been good enough, but soon I hope it makes a great accessory in one of My Style posts.

I saw this Japanese figurine in a National Trust shop when we were on one of our weekend culture day trips, I just thought it was cute, and it even opens up so if you wanted you could store a ring or something special inside.

Barbie showing us all how flexible she is!!

What inspires you in your room?

AW11 Press Day: If There Was A Cath Kidston Museum…

…it would most certainly look like this!!!

Last week I had the great pleasure of checking out Cath Kidston’s ‘Modern Heirlooms’ aka their autumn/winter 2011 press day. They even had an exhibition map, gift shop – more commonly known as a sample sale, as well as a café.

Located in The Vaults at The RSA, it really was the perfect location for this quirky British brand, known for its prints, vintage fabrics, and a modern re-working of traditional English country house style. For some, everything in their homes has to be Cath Kidston, and after seeing what they have to offer I can see why.

Birds feature heavily in the bag collection, with this British Birds Needlepoint Frame Bag, £65, being the stand-out piece; the collection draws on autumnal hues and uses needlepoint, velvet and leather, with floral, dots and tartan prints. A glorious collection.

I love Christmas, yes I am a child, and please can I have my table decorated like this!!!! I love the owl tea cosy, £20; the reindeer paper decoration, £5; and the Christmas bird print on absolutely everything from aprons to napkins.

The Study:

With all exhibitions there has to be an interactive element, and for The Study you had to look through peep-holes. I spied some amazing items from Gnome printed glasses, floral printed radios, note pads, bin and even the wall paper, and even knitting needles.

There were lots of goodies for the kids, from dinosaur prints for the boys to pretty ballerinas for the girls.

How cute is this floral case and breakfast set – LOVE!

I am not sure when Cath Kidston introduced clothes to their collection, I know the label more for its accessories and quirky statement gift selection, but I loved the choice for AW11. With cute knitwear featuring gnomes, floral tea dresses, heavy-duty coats made of sheepskin, check shirts, and the most amazing collection of gloves, hats and shawls. Prices range from around £25 for gloves and hats, to £65 for jumpers and cardigans, and the most expensive item I could see was the Sheepskin coat for £495.

Two finally pieces to share as I adored them. First up is this Retro Flowers Gypsy Sewing Wagon, £50, perfect for storing all your threads and buttons, or if you are me anything and everything!!! The second item is this Crystal Stanley Brooch, a cute item and only £22.

The museum experience finished with a lighting display on the floor and a gorgeous chocolate muffin in the cafe.

Perfect day out!
