Cover Loving: Carey Mulligan Graces October Vogue

Pic: Vogue October

British actress Carey Mulligan has been styled by Grace Coddington for the October issue of American Vogue. Shot by Peter Lindbergh, Carey is wearing one of my favourite Chanel Couture autumn/winter 10 looks. I really do like Carey’s hair now it is a little longer and she looks amazing on this cover that coincides with her latest film release, Wall Street 2.

Check out the behind-the-scenes of the shoot – especially the van full of exquisite couture looks.

Cannes: Carey Mulligan Promotes Wall Street

Who: Carey Mulligan

Where: Photocall for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps at the Cannes Film Festival

Wearing: RM by Roland Mouret  paired with Fendi heels

Verdict: I love this structured dress on Carey – the belt and pleating detailing on the waist is really cute. For me though it is all about those fierce Fendi cut-out heels – love!!

Where: Wall Street premiere

Wearing: A navy Azzaro gown with silver bow detailing collar

Verdict: I love the simplicity of this frock, Carey has such a grace about her and I like it – would have been nice to see a piccie of just her and Shia though, I think they make a cute couple

Met Gala: Fashion Event Of The Year

I chose the most inappropriate time to get ill last week with the biggest event in the fashion calendar took place – the 2010 Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, dubbed the ‘Oscars of Fashion’. The guest list was amazing as always, there was Sienna Miller’s first outing with Jude Law since they reunited, Anna Wintour dancing with Diddy, it was like a who’s who of the fashion world from Hollywood stars to models. There were amazing frocks, some fashion disasters and then there was my style icon Diane Kruger looking amazing as always. This year’s event, American Woman: Fashioning A National Identity, was sponsored by Gap and they teamed up with emerging designers Alexander Wang, Sophie Theallet and Rodarte – and got them to dress some of the hottest celebs including Jessica Alba, Kirsten Dunst and Zoe Kravitz.

Fairytale dress goes to Anne Hathaway in Valentino (above).

Style Icon goes to Diane Kruger who looked slick in a white long-sleeve body-hugging Calvin Klein Collection frock.

Best Of The Young Hollywood Starlets has to be Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively in an amazing strapless Marchesa a/w10 frock with peacock draped chiffon teamed with Christian Louboutin heels. The Brits were out in force, Carey Mulligan went for an understated (very boring – not glamourous enough for me) Miu Miu frock, Sienna looking all loved up chose a Pucci and then there was Alexa Chung who decided to play the cool card as always in a tux by Philip Lim.

But for me Best Brit had to be Emma Watson looking gorgeous in a custom-made one-shoulder white Burberry frock (as the face of the brand she kind of should look amazing!).

Shimmering Goddess has to be Nicole Richie in this amazing silver Marc Jacobs, this frock stands out for all the right reasons and I love how she has teamed it with a black sash around the waist and an oversized black clutch – and her hair is fierce – love!!

There were lots of other delights Chloe Sevigny in a teal Proenza Schouler, Rachel Weisz in a beautiful ruffled pink Oscar de la Renta, Eva Mendes wore a Dolce & Gabbana flowery number, Jennifer Lopez went for the classic princess look in a couture gown by Zuhair Murad and Emma Roberts cute in a custom black organza Marni with a stone-embellished belt.

There were some frocks that I wasn’t keen on and the one in particular has to be singer’s Katy Perry in a glowing CuteCircuit gown which had over 3000 LEDs with silk chiffon creating a rainbow of colours. I am sure she did get some best dressed awards for this innovative dress but for me it just seems a little tacky.

Oscars 2010: Carey Mulligan In Prada

Who: The new English rose Carey Mulligan

Wearing: A black Prada dress adorned in tiny forks, knives and scissors embroidery

Verdict: I love this quirky frock, not sure why a dress would be covered in forks, knifes, bolts, watch gears and scissors – but hey it is different.

LFW: Burberry Prorsum

Pic: Catwalking.com

The climax of London Fashion Week last year was Burberry Prosum’s return to the city and this season was no different, at 4pm (well 20 mins late), London stopped still. Yep even us folk at work!!

This autumn/winter 2010 womenswear collection seems to be not only about the clothes, but the front row celebrities, the global live-streaming and the 3D first fashion shows to (selected) audiences in New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Tokyo and Dubai.

Not as though they needed the extra buzz – the pap-fest which is their front row does enough of that. This season we had Bafta-winning actress Carey Mulligan, Kate Hudson, the Olsen twins, The City’s Olivia Palermo, The Kooks (yep the band), Claire Danes, Jared Leto (it was like a My So Called Life reunion!!), Mia Wasikowska – the star of Alice in Wonderland, and Carolina Herrera. What a turn out!!

Randomly they even had Radio 1 DJ, Greg James, interviewing select stars before the show, The Kooks went fine – but I got the feeling Kate Hudson was thinking who the hell is this lad!!

The show itself was military-themed, with the 53-piece collection described as a “salute to the services”, with the shearling aviator jackets and the trench coats the main attraction.

I love the updated sheepskin-lined flying jackets, with my favourite being the chocolate leather one, classic and elegant but being cropped in at the waist gave it sex appeal. It wasn’t all about the airforce though as there were some peacoats for the Navy boys and one my favourite coats was the navy blue one with zippers at the waist.

Overall this show was a spectacle of outerwear glamour with the sexy styling of thigh-high boots teamed with a warm autumn palette of ruffled, bandage and bodycon dresses in raspberry and gold.

Then there were the handbags – I just couldn’t keep my eye of these bucket or is it basket bags? Either way you could fit a hell of a lot in them and I want one!! First choice being the yellow one – divine!

Also for the first time you can now get your hands on 18 coats and 22 bags as seen in the catwalk show from the Burberry website until 4pm Friday. Amazing!!! Where is the my credit card???

What the whole show here:

BAFTA: Best Dressed – Carey Mulligan

Who: British actress Carey Mulligan

Wearing: Vionnet dress with YSL heels

Verdict: Well I hadn’t heard much of this French fashion label but they are definitely going to get some press tomorrow. Carey looks fabulous in this black and white flower print dress, I like the knee-length skirt with a flowing train. A glamorous and adventurous piece.
