Cannes Film Festival: Nicole Kidman Is Red Carpet Perfection

It was always going to be hard for Cannes Film Festival judge Nicole Kidman to top Diane Kruger’s run at last year’s event, but I have to give it to her she really has worked the red carpet to perfection and worn some unexpected looks that I have loved.

We started off with a gorgeous girlie Dior number, then the unexpected blue leaf-printed L’Wren Scott gown, and the Aussie actress completed her red carpet duties with a breathtaking Valentino, an on-trend monochrome Chanel dress, and finishing up her magnificent run with a white custom-made Giorgio Armani gown. Throughout the festival she really has wowed me.

What I have loved from Nicole’s red carpet looks in Cannes has to be her impeccable styling, sometimes I find I love her dress but not her hair, make-up and accessories, but it seems to have totally come together in France. From her side ponytail wore to the opening ceremony to her braided messy up-do teamed with her black and white Chanel resort gown to her elegant up-do worn with her Valentino Oscar worthy gown – I have loved that she thought about her hair.

Deciding on my best Nicole look has been hard, the floral embroidered Dior was cute, I was blown away by her frothy Valentino spring couture gown, and I loved her bright strapless L’Wren Scott dress, but I think she saved the best till last with this custom-made white silk tapered bustier Giorgio Armani gown featuring a and v-neckline and a gold Swarovski crystal bow. This dress is simply divine.

I am sad to say bye to Cannes for another year – but excited to see who will be the red carpet star of next year’s festival.

Cannes Film Festival: Roberto Cavalli Transforms Olivia Palermo

It seems that the French Riviera has had an effect on Olivia Palermo or maybe that should be Italian designer Roberto Cavalli has, as it seems that Cannes Film Festival has turned her into a new woman. Always one for a stylish entrance, Olivia Palermo is known for her chic looks, but while in Cannes it seems that she let out the diva inside her with the help of Roberto Cavalli’s signature sexy dresses.

The most surprising of her three Cavalli looks had to be the animal printed gown she wore to the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala. Olivia always looks hot, but I don’t think I have ever seen her wear such a daring or flesh revealing dress with all the cut-outs and that thigh-high split totally rivals Angelina Jolie!!! It is such a departure from her usual red carpet looks and I absolutely loved it – so totally fitting for Cannes and she has the body to pull it off.

While I had to look twice to confirm it was Olivia in the animal printed gown, she seemed more comfortable in the gold sequin halter gown that she wore to the ‘The Immigrant’ premiere accompanied by her hunky boyfriend Johannes Huebl. Still completely Cavalli, this look has more of her signature style with the embellished blazer and her feathered clutch. I not technically sold on the need for the blazer, I think this dress shined all on its own, but it is so her and maybe after showing off a lot of flesh the night before she wanted to stamp her style on Cannes.

Out of the three looks I think I prefer the gold gown on her that dramatic train with the sequins is so Cannes, I just can’t get over the blazer, but I think for the shock and it being so out of her comfort zone that animal printed cut-out dress might be my favourite of her looks, however I do think her embellished long-sleeved mini worn to the designers dinner party is when the socialite is totally at ease – she is even smiling in the piccie!!!

Cannes Film Festival: Kylie Minogue Shines In Roberto Cavalli

Who: Australian popstar Kylie Minogue

Where: At the ’Les Salauds’ premiere held during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival

Wearing: An ivory/pale pink embroidered Roberto Cavalli gown with a plunging neckline and a chiffon layered train, teamed with drop earrings and a diamond ring

Verdict: There is something about Kylie, she never seems to age, always does glamour perfectly without being too bling, and she always adds sex appeal to anything she wears.

I simply love this gorgeous Roberto Cavalli gown, I actually think it is one the best I have seen from the designer this film festival, and there have been a lot **check out all the images off the red carpet on my Facebook page**.

This embroidered gown, which I am not sure if it is an off-white or pale pink – I can’t quite tell from the images, isn’t just beautiful but also perfectly fitted to her petite frame. I love that she went for a train, I adore that she went for a plunging neckline, and I am so pleased that she went for a light shade – she really does look radiant in this gown.

Cannes Film Festival: Zoe Saldana In Valentino

Who: Star Trek star Zoe Saldana

Where: At the “Blood Ties” premiere during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival at Grand Theatre Lumiere

Wearing: A blue brocade Valentino gown with contrasting white shoulders from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, teamed with David Yurman jewellery including a Pinky Ring with cognac diamonds, baroque pearl drop earrings, and a bracelet and ring with colour change garnets

Verdict: As pretty as this gown is, and don’t get me wrong it is, I love its regal qualities, I was just expecting something more from Zoe after she impressed me on the Star Trek promo tour.

This dress is romantic and looks incredible on her, I just wanted her to have a huge moment at Cannes, and was picturing something similar to when Diane Kruger wore Giambattista Valli last year.

I am being extra picky as Zoe is my latest girl crush, but what I do love is her gorgeous David Yurman jewellery especially those pearl drop earrings, and her bold lippy is the perfect finish to complete this look.

Were you expecting more from Zoe – or am I just being a little too picky?

Cannes Film Festival: Cheryl Cole In Zuhair Murad

Who: Cheryl Cole

Where: At the ”Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian)” premiere during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival at Grand Theatre Lumiere

Wearing: A long-sleeved maroon and sheer Zuhair Murad gown featuring beaded embellishments from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, teamed with De Grisogono jewellery

Verdict: In Cannes as part of her L’Oreal duties, Cheryl Cole looked incredible in this show-stopping gown. Perfect for Cannes, Cheryl really shined in this sexy sheer maroon dress, everything about it looked amazing on her from the long-sleeves to the heart-shaped sheer panel to the front and the low back and delicate embellishments.

As much as love the gown, for me this look is all about Chezza’s loose bouffant braid. Cheryl sometimes can age a little on red carpets, but this braid is youthful and fun, while oozing sex appeal – I seriously love it.

Cannes Film Festival: Monochrome Starlets – Emma Watson vs Jennifer Lawrence

Monochrome isn’t just a huge trend on the high street at the moment but also on the red carpet. Just last week we saw Diane Kruger making her black and white statement and now is the turn of Hollywood starlets Emma Watson and Jennifer Lawrence at Cannes.

Generally known for its ‘Go Big or Go Home’ attitude, Cannes has been a little subdue this year, there have been a few big moments thanks to Fan Bingbing and Sonam Kapoor, but on the whole it has been more of an elegant, sophisticated affair, and Emma and Jennifer are certainly leading the way.

Not only is it a battle of the franchise starlets – Hermione vs Katniss, but also between the French fashion houses Chanel and Dior, and I have to be honest I think it is too tight to call which actress/designer wins this round.

I love that Emma has returned to her Chanel roots, and this is a gorgeous off-white silk crepon dress with black embroidered sequins on the bodice. What makes this dress work is that it’s sophisticated without ageing her, thanks to the sparkly bodice, spaghetti straps and the open back – it really does give this dress a sexy and youthful vibe.

On the other hand Jennifer in Cannes promoting the next edition of The Hunger Games is continuing her love affair with Dior in this monochrome look to the Jimmy P. (Psychotherapy Of A Plains Indian) premiere. Wearing a reworked look from the autumn/winter 2013 collection, I love how this strapless dress is simple with a dramatic twist with the black asymmetric skirt and it works perfectly with her perspex Charlotte Olympia clutch and Chopard jewellery.

While I might be on the fence with who gets my vote for best dressed, I have to give hair and make-up to Jennifer as I am just loving her tousled do and red lips.

So who wins the battle of the monochrome for you – Emma or Jennifer?

Cannes Film Festival: Sonam Kapoor Is Stunning In Dolce&Gabbana

Who: Indian actress Sonam Kapoor

Where: At the “Jeune & Jolie” premiere during the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival at Grand Theatre Lumiere

Wearing: A strapless floral Dolce&Gabbana gown with a voluminous silhouette teamed with matching floral printed heels and a bold necklace

Verdict: Wow, wow, wow – if ever there was a dress made for Barbie this is it!!! I have to bow down to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, the Italian duo have really out-done themselves with this gorgeous creation, and it was perfect for the Cannes red carpet.

I have to be honest I wasn’t even sure who Sonam Kapoor was other than an Indian actress, but I think that is the point of Cannes it allows international stars to really shine, it is where I first spotted Fan Bingbing and I can’t get enough of her red carpet looks and I think it is going to be same with Sonam, she looks so beautiful in this gown and I love her hair swept to the side.

It is hard to pull of this voluminous silhouette but Sonam does it with ease and that is what makes the dress even more beautiful, I also adore the matching rose printed heels peeking through.

Taking about this gorgeous dress and why Sonam, Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana, said:

This look really does let her beauty shine through and is easily one of my favourites of this years Cannes and we’ve only had two days. It will take some beating, but here’s hoping for more goosebump moments!!!

Hands up – who wants to start an internet campaign to get Mattel to bring out a Dolce&Gabbana Barbie complete with a miniature sized version of this gown?
