Oscars 2015: Lupita Nyong’o In Calvin Klein Collection

lupita-calvin-klein

Who: Lupita Nyong’o

Where: At the 87th Annual Academy Awards held at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, California

Wearing: A custom Calvin Klein Collection halter gown embellished in pearls and ivory beads by womenswear creative director Francisco Costa

Verdict: I thought it was going to be hard for her to top that gorgeous Prada gown from last year’s Oscars, but wow this is gorgeous. The pearl-embellished bodice is just so beautiful, and apparently the gown carries approx 6,000 beads, in five different variations of sizes, you really have to appreciate the exquisite detailing her.

For me, what makes this so special is that it is so different, I love the unique keyhole detailing, the column fit of the gown, as well as the colour on her.

I think this is a look that will be remembered for years to come.

Cannes 2014: Lara Stone Channels Barbie In Calvin Klein Collection

Lara-stone-lorealparis-2

Who: Model Lara Stone

Where: At “The Search” premiere during the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival in France

Wearing: A custom fuchsia cross-strap silk crepe Calvin Klein Collection gown, teamed with a diamond bracelet and her signature tousled waves

Verdict: Now that is how channel Barbie!!! I am a huge fan of hot pink on the red carpet, not just because I am a huge Barbie fan, OK a lot because of that, but I think a lot of it is to do with the clash of colours. When I see hot pink at Cannes it used to make me think of Diane Kruger in that incredible Jason Wu gown, but I think that honour will definitely have to be Lara Stone’s after seeing her in this gorgeous Calvin Klein Collection gown.

I am a huge fan of designer Francisco Costa’s Calvin Klein Collection gowns, he really knows how to make minimal a statement with the use of colour and sporty detailing, I just love the cross-strap at the neckline as well as the colour of this dress. You can really tell that this gown was made for the L’Oreal ambassador as it hugs her body beautifully.

It is for looks like this that I am always so pleased that Cannes always attracts all the top models to the red carpet.

It isn’t just her outfit that is breathtaking the model’s hair and make-up has never looked so good before, her skin looks absolutely flawless – I really have to try out L’Oreal Paris’ Nude Magique Blur Cream. For a full look at the products L’Oreal Paris used to create Lara’s look see below.

Critics’ Choice Awards: Lupita Nyong’o In Calvin Klein

Lupita-nyongo-calvin-klein

Who: Critics’ Choice winner Lupita Nyong’o

Where: At the 19th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica

Wearing: A custom ivory silk Calvin Klein Collection bandeau dress featuring cut-out detailing, teamed with a gold box clutch

Verdict: I love it when Hollywood newcomers outshine the old guard during award season, the winner of the best supporting actress award wowed at the Golden Globes, but I think this Calvin Klein bandeau dress is her best look let – she looks flawless.

Everything from the bandeau style to the cut-out detailing and the crisp white colour – I love this look from head-to-toe – she really is red carpet perfection.

I loved Margot Robbie in Elie Saab and Amy Adams’ pop of pink in Roland Mouret – but for me Lupita is hands down my favourite red carpet look from this year’s Critics’ Choice Awards.

Cover Loving: ELLE US Hollywood Issue – Reese, Penélope, Melissa & Shailene

ELLE-US-Nov-pcruz-2

American ELLE’s Hollywood issue is one of my favourite magazines to pick up as I love the mix of actresses they go for – and this year is no exception with Reese Witherspoon, Penélope Cruz, Shailene Woodley, and Melissa McCarthy all gracing the cover.

My favourite cover this year is a difficult choice – between Penélope Cruz, who looks stunning wearing a cashmere sweater by The Row and Chopard jewellery – I love how they’ve kept her make-up to a minimal to show off her adorable freckles, and Shailene Woodley, even though this cover looks set for summer rather than autumn wearing Calvin Klein Swimwear there is something different about the pose that makes it stand out.

ELLE-US-Nov-swoodley-2 ELLE-US-Nov-rwitherspoon-2

Reese Witherspoon’s cover is probably the most predictable, but nevertheless she still looks stunning in a sexy Versace number. The cover I think I was most disappointed with was Melissa McCarthy styled in an oversized Marina Rinaldi coat with OTT eighties hair – I can only imagine how much hairspray they used.

Online there also seems to be another two covers featuring Marion Cotillard working the crop top trend in Dior, and British actress Naomie Harris looking absolutely gorgeous in a Calvin Klein Collection wrap halter top and skirt, very similar to the one that Rose Byrne wore to the Primetime Emmys.

Considering this is a November cover there is a lot of skin on show – especially with the main fashion tagline being ‘the perfect coat shape’. It is hard to decide on my favourite but I think it has to be Penélope Cruz as she just looks gorgeous and is really the only one, except for Melissa wearing anything autumn related.

Which cover is your favourite? Also do you think these covers seem more appropriate for spring/summer than November?

Primetime Emmys 2013: My Best Dressed List

Primetime-emmys-best-dressed

It has been a while since I’ve enjoyed an awards red carpet, but on Sunday night the very best in TV donned some gorgeous gowns for the Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. Normally the TV Emmys are a little hit and miss, but this year it seems everyone really upped their game and I fell in love with a lot of looks – from the sophisticated ice-blue J.Mendel that Zooey Deschanel wore to the romantic Marchesa gown that Kerry Washington stunned in.

Trying to decide on my favourite look was hard, these seven looks were easily my favourites, but for me the two minimal-yet-exquisite looks – the sleek and glamorous Calvin Klein dress that Rose Byrne went for and the vibrant statement Ralph Lauren gown worn by Allison Williams were miles ahead of the rest. Normally I would got for dramatic, verging on the side of OTT and usually of the princess variety, but I was blown away by how perfect these two looks were.

If I had to choose between the two, and it is hard, I think I would go with Allison Williams, her strapless corset Ralph Lauren just looked incredible on TV – the bold colour teamed with the minimal structure to the shape of the gown worked perfectly. But it was her gorgeous tousled, wavy hair and flawless face, and those Fred Leighton gold bracelets that narrowly put her head of Rose.

Rose was a very close second though in this custom petal silk crepe Calvin Klein Collection top and skirt – she looks smoulderingly hot in this sexy two-piece. I love how simple and streamlined this look is while being so on trend with the crop top. My favourite bit of this look is the criss-cross detailing as well as the colour it is divine.

Like with Allison, Rose also finishes her look with gorgeous hair and make-up as well as great accessories, I love her silver Jimmy Choo ‘tube’ clutch and her Tiffany & Co earrings.

From minimal chic to two very different white looks, both gorgeous and both looked spectacular on the red carpet. First up we have Scandal actress Kerry Washington wearing a romantic Marchesa gown from the labels spring/summer 2014 collection.

Kerry’s was the closest to a princess dress and I adore the floral appliqués, the ribbon bodice and the tulle train – she looked incredible and it worked with her same colour Edie Larker clutch and delicate jewels by Fred Leighton.

At the other end of the all-white scale we have Kate Mara in a graphic lace embroidered J.Mendel gown featuring a silk crepe asymmetrical wrap skirt. I love the sex appeal of this dress with the peek-a-boo mesh-like lace and the super high thigh-high split. I also have to give her credit for the over-styling that totally paid off with the white-edged clear platform heels and white manicure – simply gorgeous.

Next up we have January Jones, who gave me the biggest surprise, no sexy split, no edgy look, just a gorgeous romantic dress. Custom-made for her by Givenchy, this dusky pink strapless dress really stood out on the red carpet because of the intricate detailing of the floral lace skirt and her flawless make-up.

Another elegant look came from New Girl star Zooey Deschanel wearing an ice-blue J. Mendel column gown from the Resort 2014 collection featuring asymmetrical folded detail at the waist and thigh-high side slit. This is a sophisticated look that looked stunning on her and was perfectly styled with silver accessories – I really love her sequinned Edie Parker clutch.

My final spot in my seven best dressed is for Downton Abbey actress Michelle Dockery who was dressed for grabbing the headlines in this striking two-tone red Prada halter-style gown with its high-low hem at the front and cute bow detailing at the bow.

With a raised hemline at the front the heels are very important and these double-strap beauties also by Prada are perfect – delicate and glamorous. I also love her red jewelled clutch.

I think out of the seven looks this might be the one that splits opinion.

I know I said my seven best dressed, but there was something about Claire Danes ethereal Giorgio Armani Privè gown that I just couldn’t leave out. The nude flare gown looked gorgeous on TV, the tulle bodice embroidered with sequins and the lace skirt really shined, however all the pictures don’t do it justice. But one thing I can’t love is her faux-bob and vibrant lippy – that comes across whatever the medium!!!

So who gets your best dressed from this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards?

Cover Loving: Jennifer Lawrence For Vogue

So the September issues have been a little hit and miss this year for me. I loved Katy Perry’s ELLE UK’s subscription issue but wasn’t taken with her flamingo pose on the newsstand version, I thought Glamour US played safe putting Jennifer Aniston on the cover I much preferred the Chloë Moretz editorial, and while I was a little bored seeing Sarah Jessica Parker in another gold dress on Harper’s Bazaar US, I did quite like Nina Dobrev’s awkward pose for Cosmo.

It has to be said though, other than the new-look Lucky magazine with Blake Lively in that exquisite blue Gucci coat, I haven’t really been blown me away – until I saw the gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence on the cover of Vogue US.

Since it was revealed last month that the Hunger Games star was going to be gracing the September issue I have been excited to see it – and I think Mario Testino has captured a gorgeous cover. Granted it is more of a ‘beauty’ than ‘fashion’ shot but I think it is perfection and she really is glowing.

I know for some there will be criticism that this isn’t a fashion shot, maybe a full-length would have been more appropriate for a September issue, to show off the fashion, but for me I adore the close-up shot of the actress, especially as it shows off her new shorter hair.

A few snaps of the accompanying editorial have also been spotted online, I am loving the vintage feel to them being in black and white and I can’t wait to see in print, as well as read the interview with the cover line “unguarded” I am expecting some juicy!!!

Are you a fan of Jennifer Lawrence’s Vogue US cover?

Editorial Loving: Homeland Gets Fashionable For US Vogue

Vogue-august-homeland-2

I am a huge Claire Danes and Homeland fan so I was excited when I heard that the actress would be the star of US Vogue’s August issue, however, the cover is just a little blah, which disappointed me a little until I saw the amazing editorial shot by Annie Leibovitz accompanying it.

The espionage-themed photo shoot, captured on Homeland’s set, shows Claire Danes as her bipolar CIA agent character Carrie in a high-fashion editorial spread alongside her hottie co-star Damian Lewis and I love it.

I love the concept, the staging of recreating prominent scenes and scenarios from the show, and most of all the contrast of the high-fashion styling – how amazing would it be if Carrie actually did wear Victoria Beckham on a stack-out!!!

You have Claire sprawled out on a bed wearing Narciso Rodriguez gown, admiring herself in the interrogation mirror in a Calvin Klein Collection dress that Zoe Saldana wore while promoting Star Trek, and looking a little retro in the car wearing a matching Hermès lambskin jacket and skirt.

I just wish that the cover, which only saving grace is an amazing Burberry trench coat, was more explosive and representative of the accompanying editorial.

What do you think – are you a fan of US Vogue’s August cover?
