LFW SS14: British Fashion Council’s ‘The Shop’

The Shop Lores LFW SS14: British Fashion Councils The Shop %tag

Every season London Fashion Week seems to keep on getting bigger and better, and this September the British Fashion Council are opening their own pop-up shop celebrating some of the hottest talents of LFW.

Onsite at Somerset House, ‘The Shop’ will house autumn/winter 2013 ready-to-wear, accessories and shoes by brands including Markus Lupfer, Bella Freud, Sophia Webster, Prism, Dominic Jones, Zoe Jordan, Lulu & Co. and House of Holland – the two rooms in the West Wings are going to be jam-packed with goodies.

If the incredible shopping wasn’t enough, the pop-up space has been created by set designer Robert Storey, and the boutique has a cool logo designed by the talented Sir Peter Blake – I really am a sucker for typography!!!

Keep an eye out on LFW’s Twitter @londonfashionwk as ‘The Shop’ will also play host to a series of pop-up events including flash sales, musical performances, readings, interviews and guest appearances – it will be the cultural hub of fashion week.

‘The Shop’ will be open Friday, September 13 – Sunday, September 22 (but will be closed Wednesday, September 18.

LONDON show ROOMS LA: Christa B. Allen In David Koma

Christa Allen David Koma LONDON show ROOMS LA: Christa B. Allen In David Koma %tag

Who: Christa B. Allen

Where: At the LONDON show ROOMS LA launch held at the Mondrian’s Skybar

Wearing: A nude and orange honeycomb print David Koma dress from the spring/summer 2013 collection, teamed with lace-up ankle boots and black bracelets

Verdict: Oooh Christa is a cutie, I love, love, love this David Koma mini on her, very age-appropriate, sporty and sexy – not forgetting that she looks incredible in it. I do love it when Hollywood actresses wear London Fashion Week designers and I adored David Koma’s spring/summer 2013 collection so I am glad it is already getting red carpet action.

As much as I love the dress, her pop of colour on her lips, I can’t get on board with those lace-up ankle boots they just don’t work for me – I wish she had gone for the strappy catwalk heels.

But even with that tiny blip I love this look – well from the ankle up!!!

What do you think of the Revenge stars look?

Wimbledon Fever: WTA Gets Fashionable

wimbledon championships 2010 winners ball Wimbledon Fever: WTA Gets Fashionable %tag

I love it when two of my passions collide, I am a huge tennis fan and add fashion into the mix and I am one happy blogger. I always love waiting to see what delights *or horrors* the Williams sisters are wearing, which earrings Maria Sharapova has decided on, and even which star has added a flash of colour to her traditional whites.

Sport and fashion does go hand-in-hand I think, Venus Williams designs her line with Reebok, Rafael Nadel shows of his amazing body for Armani, Andy Roddick designs for Lacoste as well as fronting their fragrance, Cole Haan went for Maria Sharapova as its face, Caroline Wozniacki works Adidas by Stella McCartney on court, and even tennis legend Bjorn Borg has his own underwear line!!

So it is nice to see that for this year’s Wimbledon the Women’s Tennis Association is teaming up with the BFC and UK fashion designers to make their tennis stars shine at the annual pre-Wimbledon bash at the Kensington Rooftop Gardens, London on June 16 *praying for an invite*.

“The WTA’s partnership with the British Fashion Council provides our players with a unique opportunity to work with some of London’s most talented creative minds,” said Stacey Allaster, Chairman and CEO of the WTA.  “Women’s tennis has always had a link to the fashion of the time, and we are very pleased to be able to collaborate with the British Fashion Council to share our players’ interest in fashion and style with some of the world’s best fashion designers.”

When I first glanced at the list of designers, which includes Burberry, and Stella McCartney I was worried as they are already well established and have links with sport; Serena Williams is a long time fan of Christopher Bailey, she even flew in for his show and has worn his designs on many occasions, and Stella McCartney not only dresses Caroline Wozniacki but also the British Olympic team. But I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that David Koma, Hussein Chalayan and Giles Deacon are also involved.

So who is dressing who?
Caroline Wozniacki – Stella McCartney *no surprise – contract probably states it*
Serena Williams – Burberry *she will look amazing*
Vera Zvonareva – Hussein Chalayan *will be wearing a dress from the autumn/winter collection*
Li Na – Giles Deacon *this is huge – as her popularity is high after the French Open – the dress is interesting with an image of Lady Jane Grey on the corset*
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova – David Koma *this is the one I am most excited about*
Ana Ivanovic – Matthew Williamson
Jelena Jankovic – Vivienne Westwood *great tie-up, out of all the tennis stars Jelena has the attitude to pull Vivienne Westwood*
Samantha Stosur – Mary Katrantzou
Heather Watson – Mulberry *I can just imagine her amazing accessories now*
Laura Robson – Temperley
Andrea Petkovic – Richard Nicoll *is wearing a putty dress adapted from the resort collection*
If the amazing designer dresses weren’t enough the female tennis stars will also be wearing Nicholas Kirkwood heels, and for most their date will be the amazing designer who creates their dress.
I can’t wait to see the dresses, and I wonder how much each goes for as after the party the gowns will be auctioned off during Wimbledon with the proceeds being split between WTA charities and the British Fashion Council’s Princess of Wales Charitable Trust.

#LFW: Excitement As The Schedule Is Announced

So last week the British Fashion Council announced the official London Fashion Week schedule for SS11 for September. I have been mulling over the schedule and I am liking what I see. The big highlight has to be Giles Deacon confirming his return to London, marking a return following two seasons in Paris – he appears on the fourth day and it will definitely be the hot ticket of the week.

Giles Deacon commented on his return to London: “Giles is a quintessential London label and I am extremely happy to be showing in London after two successful seasons in Paris”.

Other things I was happy to see on the schedule were: Swedish fashion house Acne are debuting at LFW for the first time with two salon presentations, which is nice to see, especially after the successful opening of their London flagship this week on Dover Street. Other newcomers to the schedule include one of my favourite emerging designers Holly Fulton who is going a catwalk show with the help of NEWGEN sponsored by Topshop.

It is also great to see that Burberry Prorsum, Matthew Williamson, Pringle of Scotland, Antonio Berardi and Jonathan Saunders are returning for a third consecutive season. As well as British talent in Paul Smith, Jasper Conran and Betty Jackson to world-class emerging designer businesses such as Christopher Kane, Erdem, Marios Schwab and Richard Nicoll. It is going to be a great season.

But one of the most interesting things to see on the schedule is that of a Alexander McQueen Memorial set for Monday, September 20, at 11am. No further details have been announced yet, but I am sure it will be packed full of fashion editors and fashionistas paying their respects, I just hope that they also stream it live for all his fans as well.

I am already making my wish-list of tickets: Erdem, Sass & Bide, PPQ, DAKS, adidas by Stella McCartney, Mulberry, Vivienne Westwood Red Label, Kinder Aggugini, David Koma and Holly Fulton back-to-back, Mark Fast, Peter Pilotto, Jaeger, Christopher Kane, many more I am sure – and of course Burberry and Giles *well a girl can dream*.

At least this season I will be dropping down to more shows for work, my registration is already submitted, I also can’t wait for the digital schedule to be announced as watching from the comfort of my sofa was also a nice luxury.

Emma Watson In Christopher Kane

EmmaWatson03252010LONDONShowROOMSCocktailPartyinNYC05 Emma Watson In Christopher Kane %tag

Who: Harry Potter starlet Emma Watson

Where:Co-hosting the London Show Rooms, British Fashion Council’s event to promote emerging talent from Blighty to the international arena, at Pulinos Bar and Pizzeria in New York City.

Wearing:An exquisite leather, lace and floral-embroidered frock from Brit-genius Christopher Kane’s a/w10 collection

Verdict:Like with Miley, Emma wearing leather is a stunning choice, they are both have a lot in common – young success stories, have great bodies so can pull off their body-con dresses – but most of all both are on-trend and obviously love their fashion. This dress has such wonderful detailing and on paper you think leather, floral and lace wouldn’t work – but it so does.
