Boot Loving: My Customised ‘Skyline’ Timberlands

Every time I wear my Timberland boots or spy them in my shoe closet I can’t help but sing ‘these boots are made for walkin’, the Jessica Simpson version of course and dream that one day I will look as good in a pair of Daisy Duke tiny shorts as she did in the music video.

My poor music taste aside, there is something about the yellow Timberland boot that instantly makes me think of music, more hip hop than Jessica Simpson, but music stars over the years really have championed this fashion classic, which I still can’t believe is over 40 years old.

When I was a teenage, many, many years ago in the 1990s nearly every US hip hop star wore them, they were the boot to have, I sadly wasn’t cool enough for them so these beauties are my first ever pair and I love them. I have to add, I am probably still not cool enough to wear them, I am no Rihanna or Rita Ora, who have both been spotted sporting Timberlands, but they are so comfortable to wear with slouchy jeans and a jumper.

Just plain yellow they really have a masculine vibe, they are the footwear of choice by most builders, but with my personalised New York skyline, literally sketched on in a matter of minutes by illustrator Mister Millerchip with a couple of pens it instantly makes them more me, add in the black glittery laces and they are simply more girlie.

I promise an outfit post in the future, but for now just check out how incredible they look, the detail in the skyline complete with stars, and how by adding a pair of different coloured laces the boots look transformed.

Are you a fan of customising footwear? Like with my personalised Converse I think these beauties will become firm favourites.

Timberland boots can be a little like Marmite, you either love them or hate them, which side are you on?

Shopping: Hobbs’ Impressive Autumn/Winter Collection

One of the brands that surprised me during the autumn/winter 2013 press days had to be Hobbs, I’ve heard such good things from the retailer from my friends, but I have to be honest I don’t regularly shop there.

For AW13 the offering is really strong and directional – with incredible bold tailored coordinated pieces, gorgeous oversized, mannish coats, and super flattering full skirts and items with delicate detailing on such as cut-work lace and scalloped edged collars.

There is an elegance about the new collection, that you would expect from Hobbs, but also a more fashion-forward feel – it really has stepped up for autumn/winter to rival Jaeger for contemporary womenswear with an edge.

One of the highlights of the collection for me has to be the gorgeous ‘Persephone’ tapestry-inspired silk printed matching pieces, the green print really made an impact at the preview, and the model look incredible wearing the trousers, shirt, coat and bag together. For everyday life maybe this look is a tad too bold, but I think the trousers and coat could totally work together with a more neutral top.

There were a lot of other pieces that stood out from the oversized mannish windowpane checked coat to the dress worn over a shirt and trousers, and the gorgeous feminine details of the Hobbs N.W.3 collection.

But what really caught my eye was the strength of its accessories collection, especially its Italian-made footwear from cute brogues from the traditional to the heeled to the boot variety, leopard-print ankle boots and wear all-day long stacked court shoes. This really is a great place to look for new classic shoes this season.

Are you a fan of Hobbs? Let me know in the comments below what you think of the autumn/winter 2013 collection.

The collection has already started to drop online and in store – to help you get started on your autumn wardrobe I have picked out some of my favourite pieces below:

Fashion: New Boots Always Make Me Smile

I love it when a surprise parcel is delivered, especially when it is knee-high boots sized, and I was thrilled to see Mou Boots inside.

These beauties will get a proper style post outing soon, probably when the weather changes back to the normally cold March, but I just couldn’t resist sharing.

AW11: Bootie Love At Bertie

Few weeks ago I went to check out the new collection from Bertie at their London showroom and I think I have been dreaming about these boots ever since. As always the autumn/winter 2011 collection is very strong with lots of great designs in the boot department from funky booties to sleek knee-highs.

These beauties called Zenobia were my favourite as I just loved the brogue effect on a quirky ankle boot that also has a hiking boot vibe with the chunky laces and ski hook features at the top. As well as being available in brown they also come in black and are priced £125, I am not sure which ones I prefer more, I suppose black would go with more but the brown just looks more rugged.

My other love at Bertie has to be the wedge, they always do a great selection of heights, and I lived in my Victorian-style laced peep-toe booties until I stupidly fell over in them, and this season is no different. My favourites had to be these black pairs, first up the Provins, £119, a gorgeous wedge with contrasting leather and suede materials, which would look great paired with tights and a little black dress; and then there is the edgy Paulo B, £110, which works this season style the loafer in an ankle boot, super cute.
