Beauty Bytes: My Hair Heroes

One of my goals for 2015 is to feature more beauty on Fashionista Barbie, now don’t get too excited I won’t be bringing you make-up tutorials, but I will be sharing some of my favourite products, new items that have me excited, as well as tips and tricks from the professionals, I have already lined up a great expert panel covering hair, body and make-up.

Beauty Bytes: Make Up For Glasses Wearers

As much as I love beauty, stocking my bathroom with potions and lotions, acquiring so many nail varnishes my vases are overflowing, make-up is my major downfall. I am terrible at getting it right, which generally means I just do the bare minimum to get by, foundation, a little bronzer, mascara and the occasional lip gloss and hope for the best.

So being asked by the lovely Lauren and Fran to be star on their fab beauty channel ‘Made Up’ on YouTube was also an opportunity for me to learn a trick or two!!! What I love most, well except for how pretty Lauren made me, is that it is very rare to see make-up tutorials for glasses wearers who realise that we also want our eyes to shine – most are focused on adding blusher and lip stick, whereas Lauren really went for striking eye make-up that is easy to replicate.

I really love the Made Up Back to Basics series – everything from shaping eyebrows to covering spots and even easy contouring for beginners – if like me you are a lover of make-up but not very good I would recommend checking out their video channel to pick up some tips.

Let me know what you think of my makeover.

Beauty Bytes: 3 Favourites For Summer

I am a lover of winter because I get to layer up and generally speaking no part of my skin is on show, however, on the other hand I love it when summer comes around as waking up to sunshine instantly cheers me up. But when the sun comes out to play I dread those moments where I will have to show off my legs, or maybe even wear a bikini – so this summer I decided to try out a few beauty favourites that I have been recommended.

So for my summer loving beauty bytes I have a gradual self tan, sea salt spray to give you tousled waves, and a contouring serum that actually works!!!

St. Tropez – Everyday Perfect Legs

I find that I am much happier about my less than perfect legs when they have a little colour, so St. Tropez’s Perfect Legs is the perfect solution as it adds a gradual tan to instantly bronze your legs.

I am generally rubbish at self tan, mainly because I am worried that I am going to come out a little orange, but this product comes with a dual action pump – the white is the gradual tan lotion and the black adds an instant tan. As I am not after being too tanned I have just been using the white pump, as it adds just enough of a bronzing for me, but I think if I was going on a night out then it might be a ideal to top up with the instant tan.

What I would say before using this product is to exfoliate your legs well, as you don’t want any uneven areas, and it will help your legs stay a bronzed glow for longer. I found the product itself easy to apply, the lotion absorbs easily, and you can tell the areas that you haven’t covered for a flawless finish. I have been using the white pump only every other day for a nice glow.

Label.M – Sea Salt Spray

I am a big fan of Toni & Guy’s haircare range, Label.M, especially their protein spray, so when I received the Sea Salt Spray in a goodie bag I thought I would give it a go as I had just ran out of Bumble and Bumble’s version.

One of the things I love about summer the most has to be leaving my hair to dry itself and this product is perfect for giving your hair that ‘I have just come back from the beach look’, you know what I mean all tousled and textured – very California chic.

If your hair is thin all you will need to do is spray directly onto wet hair and twirl, but as my hair is quite thick I needed to plait my hair when wet to give it a push start to tousled waves, which I had to do with the B&B one as well.

What I love about this Label.M product, other than the matte texture effect if gives, has to be the smell it really made my hair smell lovely all day.

Melvita – Algascience Contouring Serum

I am not sure if a lotion can reduce all of my stubborn areas, but this Contouring Serum from Melvita is doing a good job at smoothing them and making my skin feel good.

Let me give you some of the science, this product is formulated with a 3-seaweed complex – coralline to help promote fat burning, palmaria to kick-start the draining, and focus, which along with the caffeine sorts out the contouring.

I have been using for about two weeks, but unlike the directions I have only been applying once a day, (I just don’t have time for morning and evening), to mainly my hips and thighs. I have found that I can see a difference in the firmness of my skin, I am more toned in areas, but more than that I have found the massaging quite relaxing. I think if you have the time to do twice a day you would really see noticeable results.

Beauty Bytes: 5 Beauty Products I’m Loving Right Now

Beauty for me is generally been about finding a great foundation for my poor skin, buying the latest fab colour for my nails, collecting gorgeous perfume bottles that happen to smell nice and generally lots and lots of indulgences to make my relaxing baths even better. Over the past few months I have started branching out a little with my beauty regime, instead of just using my trusted products I have found some new favourites that I thought I would share.

Up in my first Beauty Bytes is a random mix, but all products that I am currently loving right now, from a foundation that is just dreamy on the skin to a bath bomb to relax all your worries away and an intriguing in-shower bath moisturiser.

beauty-bytes-bourjoisBourjois - Healthy Mix Foundation

I was introduced to this Bourjois ‘healthy glow’ foundation during fashion week when I had a make-over at the Handpicked Media suite. Generally when I have my make-up done professionally I never seem to be able to perfect the same coverage, however this foundation enthused with fruit therapy gives my skin a fresh and natural look, while still providing great coverage.

I find most foundations to be too heavy, I am obsessed with BB creams, but this foundation gave my skin a healthy glow about it and I have found it perfect to wear on hot days as it is really light on the skin.

Clinique – A Different Nail Enamel in Party Red

I have probably every colour over the rainbow and then some when it comes to nail varnishes, and every brand is nearly represented in my collection, so when I heard that Clinique had made its first foray into nail varnishes I just had to try. What makes Clinique’s line of varnishes even better is that they are safe to use for sensitive skins, which if like me you some times get irritated by varnishes when itching your eyes then this is the product for you.

I went for Party Red, as like hot pink shades you can never have too many versions of red. As well as being impressed with the glossy red shade, the coverage of this varnish is amazing it not only glides onto the nail with ease but it only needed one coat, which is perfect for when you don’t have much time.

I can’t wait to try some of the other shades.

beauty-bytes-1-niveaNivea - In-Shower Body Moisturiser

When this product arrived in the post I have to be honest I was more than a little intrigued, I even asked myself would it really save any time, well the answer is actually yes. So I have a set shower routine, shampoo hair, wash face, and while my conditioner is working I use my shower gel, and then rinse, well this in-shower moisturiser is generally works like a conditioner for the body and is super quick to apply as my skin was wet it glided on with ease.

Post-shower I could really tell that my skin had been moisturised, especially on my legs that were super dry thanks to the almond oil. If you sometimes forget or don’t have time to moisturise I think you will like this product as it becomes part of your shower routine.

Lush - Think Pink Bath Ballistic

One of my favourite ways to relax is with a nice bath, whether with bath salts, bubbles, or a bath bomb. I go through phases of what I put in my bath and lately I am obsessed with Lush’s bath bombs in-particular this adorable Pink Bath Ballistic, which not only smells amazing with its vanilla-fruity vibe but I love that it turned my bath water a Barbie pink colour. If you are after a relaxing bath I would definitely recommend this little beauty to ease your worries away.

John Frieda - Full Repair Deep Infusion

Generally my hair is in good condition, but when its been in the sun or been exposed to too much air-conditioning it does dry up at the ends. I started using this John Frieda deep infusion after being impressed with the shampoo and conditioner from the Full Repair range and I have found that it keeps my ends from looking untidy between hair appointments.

Enriched with Inca Inchi Oil rich in omega-3, I found that the serum absorbs quickly into the dry ends without being greasy, and was super easy to apply on my wet hair much like a leave-in conditioner. As well as making my hair feel smoother and shinier, the serum also seemed to protect my hair from damage caused by my hairdryer and straighteners, and stopped my hair from frizzing in humid conditions. So perfect for this changeable weather we’ve been having.

Have you tried any of these products? Let me know in the comments field below what you thought of them – and what products you are loving right now.
