My Dolls: One-Off Barbie By Fred Butler

Barbie fred butler 13 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tag

My Barbie doll collection is getting quite extensive – what started as a childhood love affair has turned into a full-blown obsession and my collection is around the 80 mark. I try and stick to fashion-related dolls, I said try as I am easily persuaded by a pretty face or outfit, especially if it is of the wedding dress variety – but the majority of my dolls have a fashion or cinematic reference.

I am getting quite a collection of fashion Barbie dolls though – I have the gorgeous trio of dolls made-over by Christian Louboutin, I have a very elegant looking Christian Dior Barbie, as well as a Kate Spade doll that comes complete with a dog in a handbag, I even bought all the Barbie Basic dolls wearing chic little black dresses.

So when I saw that Selfridges were going to be selling 15 one-off Barbie’s dressed by three London Fashion Week designers Sister by Sibling, Fred Butler and Nasir Mazhar you can imagine how excited I was to check them out as well as add one or two of them to my collection.

It was difficult to choose which one to add, so in the end I walked away with two **thanks Mum!!!** – the first of which is this beauty dressed by prop and accessories designer Fred Butler a colourful doll called Rainbow Barbie!!!

Each of Fred Butler’s had a unique style to them, and together they kind of looked like the Spice Girls in a music video, but Rainbow Barbie really stood out for me with her holographic corset, colourful peacock train and her OTT Lady Gaga-esq booties. Come on have you seen a Barbie doll look so cool before?

As well as loving what little clothing she is wearing, Fred Butler’s dolls all had great haircuts, which were styled by hairdresser Sami Knight - I am just in love with her angular bob, daring pink streaks and crazy fringe.

Rainbow Barbie by Fred Butler made be one of the latest addition to my collections but she is already my favourite, granted she is very delicate, but oh so pretty and I can’t wait for her display case to arrive so she can settle into her new home.

What do you think of Rainbow Barbie by Fred Butler? Barbie fred butler 17 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 11 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 18 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 5 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 1 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 10 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 21 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 16 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tag Barbie fred butler 20 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 9 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 2 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tagBarbie fred butler 4 My Dolls: One Off Barbie By Fred Butler %tag

Doll Loving: Coach Barbie & She Has The Most Adorable Teeny-Tiny Bag

Coach Barbie 7 Doll Loving: Coach Barbie & She Has The Most Adorable Teeny Tiny Bag %tag

It really has been a busy week for Barbie, first the fashionista was given a London makeover by emerging fashion designers Sister by Sibling, Fred Butler and Nasir Mazhar, and now my favourite doll has been decked out head-to-toe in Coach.

The very chic Coach Barbie is sporting pieces from the American label’s spring/summer 2013 collection and is wearing a miniature checked tailored Tattersall trench coat, over a striped jumper and a red ultrasuede skirt, inspired by the brand’s archival Bonnie Cashin designs complete with tiny turnlocks that it is famed for.

But it is her accessories that have got me really excited as not only is she wearing Coach’s gorgeous round ‘Patty’ sunglasses, and statement colourblock Tristen sandals, but she is carrying her first ever genuine leather accessory, the brand’s classic red Duffle bag, which was created in the same factories and with the same materials as Coach’s life-sized consumer handbags.

Seriously swoon – I am just sad that the Duffle bag is so small that I won’t be able to borrow it!!!

Do you like Coach Barbie? Will you buying her?

Coach Barbie is a Gold Label doll, and only 13,000 dolls have been produced, she is $95 and can be bought online at Coach or through Barbie Collector. I have also heard that the doll will be available at selected Coach stores worldwide including the New Bond Street flagship – but no UK price, but I reckon it will probably be £95 as that is generally how it goes.

I of course will have to add her to my collection, I am a sucker for a bag after all, I just wish they had gone for the yellow one above – maybe that will come separately!!!

If you do fancy dressing like Barbie – I have found a few of the items that she is wearing:

Doll Loving: LFW Designers Give Barbie A Makeover

barbie selfridges Doll Loving: LFW Designers Give Barbie A Makeover %tag

Barbie has had a long love affair with up-and-coming London designers, we’ve seen her collaborate with Louise Gray, Roksanda Ilincic, and Gareth Pugh, and each time I have wished that I could buy up the fashionable doll.

Well it seems to celebrate her very own shop inside Selfridges my doll Barbie has been given a makeover by Sister by Sibling, Fred Butler and Nasir Mazhar, and this time doll lovers will be able to snap up the one-off dolls for £120 from tomorrow, August 6, **please, please let there be one left for me**.

Each designer has dressed five Barbie dolls, with their own unique style – so think pompoms from Sister by Sibling, incredible Lady Gaga-esq pieces from Fred Butler, and if you have ever wanted to see Barbie in a tracksuit you will love Nasir Mazhar designs inspired by his London Collections: Men collection.

Sister by Sibling are no stranger to working with my favourite doll, the London Fashion Week trio asked Barbie to be their model for their autumn/winter 2012 collection, and I am in love with how the knitwear label has dressed Barbie complete with doggy accessories.

“Barbie has come hot from the Autumn/Winter 2013 London catwalk of Sister by Sibling.  Along with Cara Delevingne we believe in head to toe dressing to make heads turn, even her pooch has that London style. Intricate and handcrafted by experts in our atelier, these outfits are pure couture, but only for Barbie. No reproductions allowed,” – Sister by Sibling Cozette McCreery, Sid Bryan, and Joe Bates.

The most craziest and out there of the designs has to be from accessories designer Fred Butler and I love how Gaga her geometric sculptural clothes and shoes are, plus I am totally loving Barbie’s bobbed hair – so cute.

“I tried to make each one quite different so they all had a character and it’s ended up looking like a girl band!  The Origami one was the most satisfying because all the sections slotted together perfectly, especially round her high heels, giving her a totally weird new shoe,” – Fred Butler.

barbie nasir mazhar Doll Loving: LFW Designers Give Barbie A Makeover %tagFresh from his first ever show during London Collections: Men, designer Nasir Mazhar has put together a very cool collection of luxury street wear including tracksuits, mini versions of his cult box peak cap, and as a menswear designer it would have been rude to leave Ken out who looks incredible in the designer’s his infamous bucket hat.

“I never realised how intricate it would be to recreate my collection in miniature for Barbie.  It was good to include Ken too so he could chaperone her,” - Nasir Mazhar.

All 15 of the dolls will be on display in Barbie’s new department within Selfridges London’s new 4th floor toy shop which launches this week. I can’t wait to see the store as it has a central totem pole-style display housing dolls from Barbie collections past and present, as well as archive and special one-offs – I am going to be in doll heaven!!!

Doll Loving: Ball Gown Barbie By Robert Best

Ball gown barbie 2 Doll Loving: Ball Gown Barbie By Robert Best %tag

As you know I collect Barbie dolls, I reiterate this as I met someone the other day who just thought my blog was called Fashionista Barbie as I was blonde, which I am not, and that my name was Barbie, which it isn’t.

I have around 60 dolls, possible more it just all depends whether my boyfriend is reading this. I generally go for the fashion related dolls, the designer collaborations, a hint of pop culture, movie-inspired Barbie’s as well as Hard Rock Cafe dolls to sit next to my bear collection. There are exceptions – like I have to get the Christmas Barbie every year, I love a doll in a wedding dress and it seems if you add some Mickey Mouse ears I am sold, and there are just the ones that are too cute not to have.

I was asked recently to share more of my collection, and I will, I am photographing a few of favourites at the moment to share, but until they are ready I thought I would share the latest doll designed by Robert Best – Ball Gown Barbie – mainly because she is high up on my current wishlist!!!

There is always something special about a Robert Best Barbie doll and this is a beauty – I love the retro feel of her from her face to her hair, seriously glamorous, which works perfectly with her gorgeous off-the-shoulder ball gown. What caught my attention the most with this doll are the details from the bow belting her tiny waist to the opera length gloves, the dazzling rhinestone brooch and her statement eye make-up – she is exquisite.

Price at $100 she is a little pricey, I have only paid that for Grace Kelly, Christian Louboutin and Vera Wang – but I think she would make a great addition to my collection.

Are you a fan of Ball Gown Barbie?

My Style: Summer Walk By The River

my style deck chair My Style: Summer Walk By The River %tag
This weekend I embraced the sunny weather, because let’s be honest we don’t know how long it is going to last for. On Saturday, I generally sat around the garden, lounged around reading magazines, occasionally helped with the gardening, and munched on BBQ food, which kind of spur me to get up early on Sunday for a walk down the River Cam.

Living in South Cambridgeshire I get the best of both world’s I am not too far from London, no matter what some people think, and I get to explore the gorgeous countryside, quaint towns and adorable villages. One of my favourite villages, and on my wishlist of dream locations to live has to be Grantchester, which is just outside Cambridge.

This is a village that isn’t that big but has three great pubs and an amazing outdoor tea room, which is where we started our Sunday stroll, well I needed to fill up before the walk and I do love lounging about in a deck chair!!!

From there we headed down the river until we came to the edge of Cambridge and headed into town, it took about an hour, we weren’t rushing and it was hot, but it was such a lovely walk. It was fun watching the tourists try their hand at punting, the new canoeists going round in circles, the cute dogs swimming in the river, and the adorable swans.

I always find it hard to decide what to wear on hot days, it is that worry of getting my legs out, wearing something that will reveal my less than stellar body, so I decided to go for a fun floral skirt, tee and bright trainers – easy, casual and comfortable. Although, as it was so hot I am not sure why I opted to wear a black top, such a mistake, I love the loose fit of my boyfriend tee from Primark I just wish I had worn my white one instead.

I also wore my Lulu Guinness watch, which I am obsessed with, and as it has a larger face that my other watches I now have a large tan mark on my left arm!!!

What did you do this weekend to enjoy the sun?

If There Was a Beyoncé Barbie – She Would Totally Look Like This

Beyonce cavalli If There Was a Beyoncé Barbie She Would Totally Look Like This %tag

This year diva Jennifer Lopez is being honoured with not one but two Barbie dolls, which I can’t wait to see, and when I received this sketch of Beyoncé from Roberto Cavalli this morning, it got me thinking that this is totally what a Beyoncé Barbie doll would look like.

The Italian designer, who hasn’t put his name to a Barbie doll yet, which is a travesty in itself, created this gorgeous multicoloured print dress for Beyoncé’s Mrs Carter world tour and it really is a dress made for Barbie!!!

I think Beyoncé would make a beautiful and sexy Barbie doll and I would love to add her to my collection.

Barbie lovers would you like Mattel to put Beyoncé Barbie into production?

Miniature Love: Monique Lhuillier Dollhouse

monique lhuillier03 Miniature Love: Monique Lhuillier Dollhouse %tag

My love for miniature has been growing recently – whether its the tiny pen that accompany’s my Filofax, or the adorable cute mini toiletry sets that I have to bring home from a trip at a fancy hotel, or even the itsy-bitsy Victoria Sponge cakes that have become my new favourite thing to bake – my need for doll-sized has been getting a little out of control lately.

I don’t know why but teeny versions really make me smile – so you can imagine my excitement when I saw that one of my favourite red carpet designers Monique Lhuillier had created a doll-sized version of her New York flagship boutique – I think I may have squealed a little.

There are three reasons why I adore this so much, firstly, I have always wanted a dollhouse, secondly, this dollhouse comes complete with incredible Monique Lhuillier Barbie-sized bridal gowns, little shoes, and cute chandeliers, and last but not least, this dollhouse has all been done for charity to benefit Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA. Yes you could bid for this incredible designer dollhouse – I am already a little jealous of the winner before the auction has even taken place!!!

Monique Lhuillier’s amazing miniature replica of her Manhattan brownstone flagship will be auctioned off at the Kaleidescope Ball on April 17 at the Beverly Hills Hotel along with nine other dollhouses designed by the likes of Mary McDonald, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Waldo Fernandez, Tim Campbell, Jeffrey Alan Marks and fashion stylist Estee Stanley.

I can’t even imagine how much this beauty will go for, a lot I hope, as all the money raised will go to the UCLA Children’s Discovery and Innovation Institute, which researches children’s health and disease. If only I had pockets full of spare cash!!!

I really think I need to add a gorgeous dollhouse to my ever-growing collection of Barbie dolls – I think it would be fun sourcing cute miniature pieces of furniture and decorating each room.
