Doll Loving: A Blake Lively Barbie Doll…Well Sort Of

I have always thought that Blake Lively with her model looks and blonde hair would make a great Barbie doll, well it seems so did Mattel, in a round about way. My favourite doll is getting her latest designer makeover and this time it is red carpet favourite Lebanese fashion designer Zuhair Murad, who is known for being one of Jennifer Lopez’s go-to designers.

His work is always edgy, sexy and divine, and one of my favourite looks over the past few years has got to be when Blake Lively wore one of his creations to the ‘Savages’ premiere and channelled Old Hollywood glamour with a striking Art Deco-inspired black and blush mermaid couture gown.

Well it seems that was one of Barbie’s favourites as well as the dramatic striped geometric design has been made pint-size for her limited edition red carpet-ready look. I just wish they had finished off the look with Blake’s retro waves than the boring updo and this Barbie would have been perfection. But that is the tiniest of flaws – I need this collectable doll in my collection.

I wonder what Blake thinks of her mini-me.

Want one of these limited-edition dolls for yourself? The Zuhair Murad Barbie will set you back $75 – you might have to wait a while though as it is already on back order at barbiecollector.com.

Doll Loving: Barbie x Sadie Williams For LFW

I always get a little giddy around this time of year, not because Valentine’s Day is coming up, but because London Fashion Week is only days away and I know that Barbie always teams up with an amazing fashion designer. Previously, my favourite doll has been dressed by Sibling, Nasir Mazhar, Fred Butler, Louise Gray, Roksanda Ilincic and she even got a Christmas makeover from Stephen Jones – well coming Friday this gang of tomboy princesses designed by Sadie Williams will go on sale at Selfridges.

It is hard to top Sibling and Fred Butler, I loved them so much I rushed out and snapped up two, but I love how Central Saint Martins’ graduate Sadie Williams has really brought her own vision to Barbie’s expanding wardrobe. The intricate detail mash-up of hand-collaged prints, which reference vintage sports clothing, graphic Amish quilts, and abstract shapes seen in the work of Frank Stella, really does make the perfect Barbie party look.

I have to be honest I didn’t know much about Sadie Williams before, but after seeing her pintsize gowns I am super impressed, and I can’t wait to see more from this young designer. I am suppose to be on a Barbie ban at the moment, I have a wedding to pay for, but I think I love these tomboy Barbie’s too much to let me go – these two beauties below have to be my favourites.

If you love them as much as me, head on down to Selfridge’s Barbie boutique on Friday, the opening day of LFW, and pick up your favourite one-off doll for £120 each.

What do you think of Barbie’s latest designer makeover?

Hunger Games: Effie Barbie Goes On Tour

It seems it isn’t just Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Banks, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth who are travelling the world to promote The Hunger Games – Catching Fire film – it looks like Effie Barbie couldn’t resist getting in on the act as well.

Elizabeth Banks’ mini-me, is living it up on the film’s global tour – hitting the red carpet, having her make-up done, wearing incredible headgear, sipping champagne, and even photobombing the stars as they promote the movie.

My Effie Barbie is in the post and I can’t wait for her to arrive so when I saw these piccies on Elizabeth’s Facebook page I just had to share – they are just so hilarious. I think my favourite has to be where Effie is having her hair and make-up touched up – such a diva!!!

Anyone else a little jealous of a Barbie doll?

Doll Loving: Barbie Gets A Christmas Makeover

You know by now how I love Barbie‘s fashion makeovers, I was so giddy about her transformation by London Fashion Week designers that I bought two, I couldn’t order the Coach Barbie quick enough, and it took me a year but I finally got all three Christian Louboutin beauties for my collection. Well now I am lusting over these five one-off Barbie dolls who have undergone a Christmas makeover by London milliner Stephen Jones.

The hat maker has not only created fabulous headwear for Barbie, but full on Christmas-inspired couture looks from the velvet ‘Santa Baby’ mini dress to a red carpet worthy sparkly gown for ‘Snow Globe’ Barbie, as well as a fishtail frock adorned with holly for ‘Happy Holly’ Barbie, a ‘Christmas Tree’ look, and ‘Toffee Ice’ Barbie – a sexy Rudolph on ice!!!

“Barbie is the most fabulous private client. She came into the salon for her Christmas morning hat and left with five glamorous outfits! Barbie and I have the same design vision; we love tradition, but have an eye for the future, ” Stephen Jones

I am kind obsessed by them all – I actually can’t decide on my favourite. ‘Toffee Ice’ looks adorable and sexy in her antlers, red nose and faux fur outfit, while ‘Snow Globe’ Barbie is red carpet ready in her gown with the quirky addition of the snow globe headgear.

If I had to get just one though I think it would have to be between ‘Christmas Tree’ Barbie who actually lights up and ‘Happy Holly’, which is also Stephen Jones’ favourite, as it is just so exquisite constructed.

Happy Holly Barbie – “This is my personal favourite, using the contrast of soft velvet and spiky holly leaves. Barbie also has her very own pet Robin to give her a Christmas peck,” Stephen Jones.

The exclusive Barbies by Stephen Jones are available at Selfridges from November 15, priced at £250 each.

Barbie Loving: The Hunger Games Catching Fire Dolls – Including Katniss & Effie

It isn’t long now until The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits cinemas, I have even started rereading the trilogy to prepare, and Barbie has done a followed up to the amazing Katniss doll from the first film, with the leading lady being joined by Peeta, Effie and Finnick wearing costumes from Catching Fire.

Of course I’m excited to be adding another Katniss doll, the first one sits pride and place in my office next to Bella from Twilight, but as they didn’t go for one of Jennifer Lawrence‘s characters more flamboyant looks from the film – like her wedding dress - the one I most want to add to my collection is Effie Trinket.

As you would expect Effie is one striking Barbie doll, wearing a metallic blue dress accented with black feather sleeves and gold detailing around the collar and waist – it is a complete replica of one of her extravagant Capitol fashions worn in the film. I love that the bold design also captures her signature hair style, striking make-up and finishes off the look with OTT shoes and glitzy tights. For $24.95 she is a real bargain.Barbie-hunger-games-effie Barbie-hunger-games-effie-Barbie-hunger-games-katniss

The Catching Fire Katniss doll is great, but just doesn’t have the wow factor of Effie as it is too similar to the first doll. Once again she is carrying her bow and wearing her hair in a side-braid, the only difference is the leather jacket has been replaced with her fitted black bodysuit with knee and elbow pads that she enters the arena of the Quarter Quell in.

As well as the two favourite female characters, Barbie has also moulded Peeta and Finnick into dolls, with both wearing their Tributes outfits for the 75th Annual Hunger Games. Peeta’s of course matches Katniss in black, while Finnick carries his signature trident.

What do you think of the new The Hunger Games dolls? Are you happy that they included Effie this time?

Barbie: Roksanda Ilincic’s 3D Barbie Dreamhouse

When you think Barbie’s Dreamhouse – you think pink, lots of pink, beach fronted property in Malibu, and generally a bit more pink – well London Fashion Week designer Roksanda Ilincic, who also studied architecture, has created my favourite doll a new look dreamhouse that is a little eerie and very edgy.

Ditching the girlie, the Roksanda Ilincic Barbie Dreamhouse is a total contrast, think metal, concrete and a little spooky. The feminine touches have been replaced with concrete furniture that moulds into the floors, a mysterious rooftop forest, and Barbie’s bedroom is covered in carpet from floor to ceiling.

I love that it is so different to Barbie, it’s edgy and very modern, but I think this dreamhouse would scare a few little girls out there!!!

Also the biggest surprise, after realising there was no pink, there are no mirrors – this is because Roksanda told The Telegraph that her Barbie wasn’t very vain saying: “She proved she can be just as beautiful at 54 as when she was 20, so she doesn’t have any need to be vain.”

Take a tour around Roksanda Ilincic’s 3D vision of what Barbie’s new dreamhouse should look like:

Catwalk Copy: My Barbie Wearing Sister By Sibling AW13

It isn’t everyday you get to buy a Barbie dressed in a catwalk copy, so when I saw Sister by Sibling had made doll-sized replicates of five key pieces from its autumn/winter 2013 collection to dress my favourite doll I had to buy one.

It was hard to choose, I am seriously in love with this fun British knitwear brand, but this black knitted mini complete with pom-pom beret, chunky scarf and chic arm muffs – just called out to me. I just loved how wrapped up she looked and her pretty face nailed it for me – she is just so beautiful.

For me this Sister by Sibling doll is all about the detailing, the tiny hat that is worn to the side, the incredible knitted dress with floral pom poms attached, her purple streaked hair, the gorgeous loose plait down her back, and her eye make-up with cat-flick and purple eye-shadow just finishes her off perfectly.

The Fred Butler Barbie might win out on statement, with her rainbow train, but Winter Barbie is a classic beauty and I have to be honest I am more than a little jealous of her dress!!!

What do you think of Winter Barbie by Sister by Sibling?
