BAFTAs 2015: My Five Best Dressed

Each year I have mixed feelings about the BAFTAs red carpet, the awards are our Oscars but they don’t ever feel in the same league, they never really bring all the big stars, the fashion is generally more bad than good or just too safe to care, and I never understand why they don’t make the red carpet more organised, watching it makes me so frustrated there is never a full length shot, there are heads in the way, and it always looks so crowded.

Saying all that I did like a number of the gowns tonight, mainly thanks to Julianne Moore, who all award season has killed it, I loved her shimmery Givenchy beauty at the Golden Globes and her green sequinned Givenchy wonder at the SAG Award, and now this incredibly sexy red Tom Ford gown.

What I love about this gown has to be the two-tone mix of fabrics, with the velvet bodice with plunging neckline, teamed with a silk skirt. I like the contrast of the two fabrics, it makes it modern and fresh and I love it when Julianne does sexy. I think this look will be on a lot of people’s best dressed list. If it isn’t it should be – I love it that much. Without this sexy look this red carpet would have been a little blah for me.

Next up on my Best Dressed list has to be Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney, I love this purple hue on her, and this gown is elegant and sexy, which is perfect for her, and shows off her gorgeous figure. I have to be honest though I was a little worried about her girls escaping at the side – or maybe that was secretly hoping! Her hair and make-up was once again stunning – her glam squad are doing her proud this award season.

My third spot has to go to Laura Haddock, star of Da Vinci’s Demons, which I love, who so had a princess moment on the red carpet in her custom long-sleeve tulle gown with a plunging neckline by Ashi Studio, who I am going to have investigate and find out more about as I adore this pretty gown. Some of my Twitter feed were saying that this was a little too much for a non-nominee or presenter, but come on why the hell not, she is beautiful, the gown is divine, and I loved that she stood out.

My last two spots were tough to fill, I actually considered just doing my three best dressed, but then I had a change of heart and thought that these two lovely ladies did deserve to be showcased. So here you go, my fourth best dressed goes to Gugu Mbatha-Raw who looked gorgeous in a lilac Prada gown. What I loved about this frock was the feminine colour and silhouette mixed in with the rock-n-roll black crystal trim, I think that by adding that edgy accent made this a bolder look for me, I also think her accessories round off a great look, I even like the ear cuff, which is actually starting to bore me now, it was edgy when Emma Watson did it. Also this was Gugu’s second Prada look this weekend, is there a contract on the horizon?

Last but not least is Felicity Jones in Christian Dior Couture, her stylist called it a vintage gown, but I don’t think spring/summer 2013 counts as vintage, not even when you say it is ‘modern vintage’. But nevertheless I still like it, for me this is the best she has looked all award season. There is something so classic and pretty about this embroidered pink silk gown that makes it perfect for her and the occasion. The only thing I would have changed is the length, I think it was a little long for her.

I also think a special mention has to go out to Rosamund Pike who looked stunning in a black Roland Mouret, the only reason she didn’t get my fifth spot was purely because the gown actually looked better on TV than it does in photographs, which sometimes happens, but still this was her best look so far this award season. I also though Holliday Grainger looked amazing in an elegant black-and-white Antonio Berardi gown, as did Lea Seydoux in a canary yellow cut-out Prada gown, and Amy Adams was again flawless in a white custom Lanvin.

BAFTAs 2014: Lupita Nyong’o & Angelina Jolie – My Best Dressed

Lupita-dior-BAFTAs

This year the EE British Academy Film Awards fell in the middle of London Fashion Week so I felt like I kind of missed the whole excitement of the red carpet, seeing it back in pictures is just not the same, especially when it seems to have produced the best fashion in a number of years.

It was sad that both Jennifer Lawrence and Sandra Bullock didn’t attend, I would have loved to see what they would have worn, but I was glad to see that ’12 Years A Slave” actress Lupita Nyong’o was once again on top form in this stunning emerald-green silk Christian Dior haute couture strapless gown from the autumn/winter 2013 collection.

Everything about this gown was beautifully and was easily my best dressed gown of the night and it was nice to see that Lupita really did come to London to impress. I loved it all from the jewel colour to the metallic belt and arm cuffs to the dramatic train – simply gorgeous. I really couldn’t have asked for more from her and seeing this gown has made me excited to see what she wears for the Oscars.

Another look that caught my eye was Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt in near-identical outfits. Not quite as cool as Madonna and her son at the Grammy’s, but I love Angie in this menswear-inspired look from Saint Laurent – it is so chic and sophisticated.

What makes this look great is the styling, I love that she wore her white shirt slightly unbuttoned to add a causal vibe to the look, which looked perfect with the untied black bow tie. Finishing off this look were those black Saint Laurent heels – the patent shine really worked with the tuxedo-stripe to the trousers. Another great look for my women in suits Pinterest board!!!

I really think that Angelina pull off this tuxedo better than Brad Pitt in his Valentino – what do you think?

BAFTA Awards: Jennifer Garner In Roland Mouret

BAFTA-j-garner-rolandmouretWho: Jennifer Garner

Where: At the 2013 EE British Academy Film Awards held at the Royal Opera House in London

Wearing: A monochrome Roland Mouret ‘Alava’ gown from the spring/summer 2013 collection, featuring an architectural peplum and sash, teamed with a Roger Vivier clutch, diamond drop earrings and a bracelet

Verdict: Wow, Jennifer Garner really has been a stylish wife during this award season supporting her hubbie Ben Affleck, who last night took home the Best Director and Best Film BAFTAs for his film Argo. I really have enjoyed her return to the red carpet and this exquisite, structured and sophisticated Roland Mouret gown looked incredible on her last night.

There were a lot of monochrome looks and this was by far my favourite, I love the architectural detailing around the waist, the sash really does clinched in her waist, and what I adore is that you wouldn’t even know it was cold and snowy as she doesn’t let it bother her one bit.

Finishing her amazing look was a gorgeous up-do, diamond jewellery and of her flawless make-up.

I seriously can’t wait to see her Oscar look!!!

BAFTA Awards: Sarah Jessica Parker In Elie Saab

BAFTA-SJP

Who: Sarah Jessica Parker

Where: At the 2013 EE British Academy Film Awards held at the Royal Opera House in London

Wearing: A black three-quarter sleeved Elie Saab jumpsuit, featuring a boat-neck, keyhole detailing, and structured panels to the bodice and waist from the pre-fall 2013 collection, teamed with black heels and Fred Leighton jewellery

Verdict: I do love a jumpsuit on the red carpet and it seems that Elie Saab leads the pack on the most glamorous styles. I loved this bold look from SJP, I know people on Twitter were saying that it wasn’t award ceremony worthy, granted but she wasn’t nominated, wasn’t promoting a film, and was just there to present and I think that allows for a little more creativity, plus I think the cold weather played a part.

As much as I love the look I wish the neckline wasn’t so high, was a little revealing to add a touch of sex appeal, plus maybe a little embellishment, but I can’t deny how cool this outfit looked on last night’s red carpet.

I am also loving her poker straight hair and heavy make-up to her eyes – I just can’t help but loving this look and wishing I could pull off a jumpsuit!!!!
