Made In Oz: Mad Love Coming To Topshop

HEROS 20 Made In Oz: Mad Love Coming To Topshop %tag

One of my favourite features of my blog has to be the ‘Made In Oz posts highlighting all my favourite designers and labels from Australia. I have to quickly add I am not an Aussie, and sadly I haven’t ever been, and no my boyfriend isn’t from down under, I just really love the injection of fun that all these labels are bringing to our shores at the moment. I am a huge fan of everything from the likes of MinkPink with its vintage-inspired take, Staple for its incredible sleek basics, Cameo for its gorgeous dress silhouettes, and the Frenchie-chic brand Toi et Moi – seriously the list is very long and keeps growing.

My latest Oz fix is coming from Toi et Moi’s creator Gill Lawrence – Mad Love, a quirky fashion label that was launched only last year but it is already establishing itself as a fun and flirty line with a kind of Wildfox Couture vibe about it with its use of graphic prints, slouchy tees, striking maxi dresses and statement motifs inspired by street art with a mix of pop art. I am so in LOVE!!!

Coming to Topshop in March this label is perfect to spice up your wardrobe, and with prices starting at £40 I am sure it will be a firm favourite come festival season. My favourite piece of the collection has to be this lippy jumper, I just love the oversized shape, the gappy teeth and the monochrome stripes against the pop of red – I can’t wait to wear this beauty.

Made In Oz: Hobes An Understated Cool

I am on a bit of an Oz trip at the moment *not literally, sadly* but I just keep coming across fab brands, my latest is Hobes, not to be confused with Hobbs, which I keep calling it when discussing with friends. Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Hobes’ understated cool shoes launched last Spring and have quickly become a cult hit, and since launching into the UK they have also been ordered by the likes of Kate Moss, Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller, so I am sure they are going to be huge here as well.

What I love about these shoes has to be how simply they look. All the products are handmade, unisex and classic in design, so basically they will work throughout the seasons. I love their take on traditional 7os style laced desert boots – I think my favourites have to be the denim and mustard pairs, but with three styles: the Original Hobe *pictured*, the Hi Hobe, and the Lo Hobe Black Napa; and nine colourways for the Original Hobe there really is something for everyone.

At the moment they are only available online via Hobes e-shop, but they do ship worldwide and the website also offers a handy currency converter. Prices you ask, well they are all AU$159.00, about £105, plus P&P, remember they are handmade and all high quality suede or Napa, and surely you can’t put a price on comfort and these beauties look amazing!!

If you want to work the California girl look then these are the footwear for you, they will look amazing with jeans, but I reckon they would also look super cute teamed with a denim mini and tights for winter as well.

Made In Oz: Finders Keepers – Label To Watch

finderskeepers2 Made In Oz: Finders Keepers Label To Watch %tag

I am thinking of making this ‘Made In Oz’ a regular feature as I am coming across so many cool brands. My latest find is fairly new Australian label Finders Keepers, only launched in 2009 and in it is landing in the UK for autumn/winter 2011 *October/November time*.

The line has a signature look that merges trend design and vintage-inspired pieces, and I absolutely love the mix of maxi dresses *love the Ziggy Stardust Maxi above*, jumpsuits, striking cut-out designs as well as casual pieces such as this Winter Wonderland Poncho, which looks so cosy.

What caught my attention about this label has to be the quirky detailing, every piece you need to look at the back as it is fun and flirty with its cut-out panels, if you are after a new party dress with a feminine twist then you need to look here as there are some great designs.

I love this dress ‘Shining Star Maxi’, not only is it in a gorgeous natural tone that mustard shade is stunning, it also has a flirty cascading drop hem, which makes any dress special in my opinion. OK, this label is for the younger generation, with its cut-out detailing to the waist and back, but this dress has a sexy-yet-girlie vibe to it that mixes just right.

My favourite piece has to be this striking burnt orange Brilliant Adventure Maxi dress. I love how it fuses a Seventies vibe with the shirt dress style with modern touches such as the drop hem and cut-out panel across the back. Also how amazing does the styling look, I love the pale yellow skinny belt, the blue floppy hat and the gorgeous blue tights; however for me I think I would team this beauty with black pieces, from the tights to calf-length laced boots, and even the belt, and as it is the UK a chunky cardigan or leather jacket. It definitely needs some warmth added to wear it here because of the sheer material. But I just love it!!

I have to admit I am not a fan of the playsuit, I want to be I love seeing them styled in magazines and also pick them up when shopping but I do feel a skinny frame is needed to pull off well. If you love a playsuit then you have to check this label out as the autumn/winter collection is packed full of them.

The label has a great mix from day-to-night trouser playsuits to flirty short styles, I just love the champagne colour jumpsuit called Prisoner of Love, very cool!!

There is also a great selection of body-con dresses that I am sure will be popular here, my favourite is the Magic Dance Body dress, I love the lace detailing to the bodice and the angel-wing cut-out panel to the back. This dress also comes in a grey/white mix but I love the black as it has a sexy-goth feel to it and makes a perfect LBDA aka a Little Black Dress with Attitude!! Also this dress has been spotted on Nicky Hilton.

No word on stockists *I am betting ASOS they seem to like Aussie brands as much as me* or prices but I looked at how much they were in Australia and I reckon you can expect to pay around £100 for a maxi. As soon as hear back on stockists and prices I will let you know.

UPDATE: I am happy to report Finders Keepers is coming to ASOS, I do love the power of Twitter as the lovely Jo Hunt, Trend Brand Buyer on Womenswear at ASOS tweeted me to tell me it is coming to the site soon.

Made In Oz: Minkpink Has A Bohemian Vibe For Autumn

I am kind of having a love affair with Australian brands since I checked out the amazing collections at Greene & Sheppard PR’s press day. One Oz brand that always stands out for me has to be Minkpink, if you haven’t heard of Minkpink before you are in for a treat, think vintage-inspired fashion with a quirky personality, with a reasonable price tag.

Here in Blighty you can pick up Minkpink at ASOS and Urban Outfitters and I just love the bohemian vibe for autumn/winter, with its crochet knits, maxi skirts, and most of all its quirky prints.

The first range to hit the stores is ‘California Dreaming’ in October, and I have to say this is my favourite with its 60s vibe. I am just loving the flares, the maxi lengths, and the dark floral and paisley prints. I particularly love this gorgeous oversized ‘Cheet Sheet’ shirt with its leopard print it looks cool with skinny jeans, and the ‘Intricate’ dress teamed with knee-high socks and a floppy hat, this look book has great styling. I can see celeb fan Whitney Port loving this range.

Coming in November is ‘Dimestore Diamond’ a ‘hotchpotch of vintage-inspirations’, with its statement knits, wide leg pants, striking prints; generally speaking it is right to look a little wrong!!

If you are brave enough to work the pieces together then more power to you, me however will be cherry picking certain items, especially that gorgeous cropped jumper, the maxi skirt and the ‘Two Faced’ maxi jumper below, which I completely adore and kind of imagine that it is like wearing my slanket outside!!

The last of the autumn/winter 2011 ranges for this year is ‘Virgin Suicides’ released in December. This collection is more feminine than the other two lines, with flowing dresses and blouses in a pastel palette of rose, blue and lilac. I love this ‘Stairway to Heaven’ jumper and the very sexy ‘Back Away Slowly’ shirt dress, which might I add has the coolest name ever!!!
