My Style: A Flirty Asos Midi Skirt

my style asos skirt 3 My Style: A Flirty Asos Midi Skirt %tag

Lately I have been trying to embrace the midi skirt, being more ladylike, and trying, and mostly failing to sometimes leave the jeans in my wardrobe for a little rest, and I thought afternoon tea at the Laura Ashley Elstree Hotel was the perfect occasion to show of this incredible cobalt blue Asos skirt in woven crêpe.

I bought this beauty for fashion week and my regularly size was too big, which basically made me jump for joy, so it feels good showing off this gorgeous skirt in a smaller size, and actually thinking I look slim for a change. I think this has a lot to do with the skirt, it is super flattering, beautifully cut, and the woven crêpe material really does make it look and feel more expensive than its £30 price tag. It is a steal of a price and this skirt will be an autumn/winter hero for me as I think it will work just as well with tights and a chunkier knit.

As I wanted to show of the high-waisted fit I wore it with my lightweight grey knit, also from Asos, I promise I didn’t intentionally raid my wardrobe for a head-to-toe Asos look – it just happened. I love this jumper, as not only is it super comfortable and soft to the touch but it also has the most adorable lace hearts on the elbows. I do love little quirky touches, and in my bride-to-be craziness I just thought the heart made my look bridal, I know it isn’t but I have weddings on my mind!!!

Maybe it is the longer length to the skirt, or the flattering high-waist, or even the bold colour, but I just find myself actually liking not only the way I look, but also feeling how happy I am in these pictures – if that makes sense. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate on myself, well not all the time, but I am not the most comfortable in front of camera, I know crazy that I am a fashion blogger, but maybe, just maybe I am getting a little more confident about featuring my style, only taken me nearly five years!

So what do you think about this midi skirt?

My Style: Festival-Inspired Floral Love Affair

My Style Festival gap 2 My Style: Festival Inspired Floral Love Affair %tag

What is your go-to festival look?

Mine would probably be skinny jeans/denim shorts, a vintage rock tee, a bold floral kimono, some wellies and a few statement pieces of jewellery that I would probably have picked up from Primark. For this season, with the weather being a little warmer, I thought I would channel my girlie side and opt for a fun and flirty dress, pops of colour, of course sensible but cool footwear, and a statement headpiece, well it wouldn’t be a festival without wearing something silly now would it.

What I love about this look, other than how happy this tropical print shirtdress makes me from Gap, even when it starts to rain, has to be how comfortable I am not wearing wellington boots. I have a problem with not being able to find wellies that fit me well, they are always too big around the ankle, I seem to not be able to walk properly and they make my feet ache, maybe it is because I haven’t invested in quality, but I was so pleased to try out Sorel’s Slimshortie style. They are kind of part cowboy, part biker, with their full-grain waterproof leather they can take on any challenges of a festival, plus they will look great in winter as well.

To tie my boots into my look I added a tan belt, which really nips in this cute dress, and then to add a summer pop I went for this fun pompom headpiece from Asos, which is currently in the sale so snap it up quick, I just thought it looked perfect with my new specs from Kite, the yellow Shore Projects watch and my Rebecca Minkoff bag.

What do you think – would you wear this to a festival? Also have you tried out Sorel’s Slimshortie boots?

Cute Alert: Asos x Minnie Mouse Ears

asosdisney Cute Alert: Asos x Minnie Mouse Ears %tag

I have made no secret of being a lover of cute, whether that’s an adorable piece of jewellery made even cutier by my favourite doll Barbie, or a statement sweater of a basically any animal alive and now I have to add Minnie Mouse ears to my ever-growing wish list.

These beauties are part of Asos’ exclusive collaboration with Disney and I can’t quite decide which pair of Minnie Mouse ears are my favourite. Of course Minnie’s timeless and signature polka dots are high on my list, but I can’t help but be seduced by the fun leopard print ones, the pom pom beauties and the festival-ready floral ‘blossom’ bow. All I know is that each pair is so cute I want them all!!!

Prices start at £10 for the classic red and white spot ears and bow Aliceband, which I have to be honest as Minnie’s signature style these might just be my favourites, but I do adore the quirkiness of the pom poms for £12 and the leopard print sequinned embellished headband for £15.

Which ears do you want to rock this summer?

My Style: Day 3 At London Fashion Week

LFW Day 3 Outfit My Style: Day 3 At London Fashion Week %tag

The weather this London Fashion Week has sucked, it has really thrown me off my outfit picking game, and has made me hate each and every look I have worn for a while. I think it is the fact that you have to rush to get the shot and the fact that the weather is making everyone so miserable – but I really wanted to share this amazing midi skater dress from ASOS.

Wearing this dress felt amazing, super flattering and was a great colour, I love navy, and it is a great length – plus at £42 is it also a great price – I will be wearing this beauty a lot. But for some reason it didn’t photograph as well as it felt, which is probably down to my poor posture and my current uncomfortableness in front of the camera than the dress.

To brighten up the dress I paired with my LFW Russell & Bromley bag – the Gilt Edge, as well as a cute pink watch from Fossil and some silver jewellery.

Nothing too showy, just simple and comfortable for a day of shows.

LFW Diary: Day 1 – Dinosaur Jumper, Bora Aksu & A Nokia Skirt

LFW Day1 LFW Diary: Day 1 Dinosaur Jumper, Bora Aksu & A Nokia Skirt %tag

There is a calm about this London Fashion Week, maybe it is because it is like my tenth or eleventh season, I really have lost count, or maybe it is just with the rain I know there is less pressure on my outfits because lets face it I am going to spend the whole five days soaked.

Today, I most certainly got soaked, it poured all day, so no proper outfit picture, just a crappy one taken on my mobile inside The Apartment, but I just had to share as I love this stripy dinosaur jumper from ASOS. I promise that I will share this beauty in another outfit post soon.

Day 1 at LFW has always been seen as filled with ‘lesser’ designers or ‘emerging’ talent, and some editors and writers even miss it out completely, I am not sure why as the Friday schedule is always packed, and I love the mix of the romantic nature of Bora Aksu with the demi-couture vibe at Fyodor Golan, to the exquisite tailoring at Eudon Choi, and the outerwear chic you always see at Christopher Raeburn.

Bora Aksu brings a touch of spring to AW14

Always a highlight for me is Turkish designer Bora Aksu, this season he presented a collection that was filled with his trademark femininity and a nod of nostalgia, with a line inspired by the letters his mother wrote while at boarding school. The uniformed school girl and the 1950s silhouette could be seen throughout the collection, which included Peter Pan collars, pencil skirts, high-necks and patchwork detailing. For the most part this seemed like a collection more suited to warmer climates than London, but it was nice to see girlie pinks and vibrant yellows alongside bold blues, oxblood red and monochrome. I can’t stress how much I loved this collection and I promise I will be sharing more images later in the week when I have edited them.

Hair trend – Plaits

I know it is only day 1 but I have already spotted plaits on the catwalk, from the Heidi meets milk maid vibe of the ribbon plaits seen at Bora Aksu to the edgy braids at Fyodor Golan, which were hidden under sporty hats, and even Jean-Pierre Braganza sent his models down the runway sporting a braid with a white and blue painted strands. I wonder if this will continue throughout all of LFW.

Technology Meets Fashion

Technology and fashion always seems to collide during fashion week, whether its Google glasses on the DVF runway or Burberry filming their show with iPhones, it seems everyone wants a piece of the fashion pie. Well this season, Fyodor Golan pushed the boundaries by creating a skirt made out of 80 Nokia Lumia 1520 Smartphones. The design was really cool to see as each mobile was broadcasting its surrounds so it looked like the colours fluttered when the model moved.

Pink Isn’t Going Anywhere

One of most coveted items this autumn/winter has to be the pink coat and it seems pink it still on the minds of LFW designers, as it is only Day 1 and we’ve already seen it on the catwalk of Bora Aksu in a soft hue, as well as vibrant bold pink colours at Mark Fast and at Fyodor Golan who added a sports luxe vibe with this textured bomber jacket and baseball cap.

Blue, Blue, and a bit more Blue

As well as pink, blue hues from baby blue to cobalt blue strutted down the catwalk. At Eudon Choi, the blues were bold, and seen on ruffled dresses and boxy knits, while at Christopher Raeburn the blue hue was more of a pastel share and looked more casual paired alongside khaki on chic outerwear. Dark blue was also used at Bora Aksu, for its cord two-pieces, as well as at Mark Fast for his knitted creations, while a sophisticated blue was seen on tailored pieces at J JS Lee.

My Style: Winter Wedding Florals

My style winter florals 1 My Style: Winter Wedding Florals %tagThis weekend I went to the wedding of our good friends Tim and Katie in Bristol, not only was it so much fun catching up with friends who looked so much in love, it got me even more excited about my big day coming up in November.

As we were staying at the venue, the stunning Berwick Lodge, I could wear something that didn’t need a coat and that wasn’t too warm as I didn’t need to go far in the awful stormy weather. I always find weddings in general hard to buy for, as you want to be comfortable, smart, but your outfit can’t really be too over powering, which is why this gorgeous floral fit-and-flare dress from Karen Millen is perfect. I love the intricate detail around the neckline, as well as the sheer cap sleeves and the pleated skirt is so flattering.

I was torn between this and another dress, but after seeing Diane Kruger rocking Erdem winter florals I just had to give the look a go, OK granted it isn’t the same print, or even the same colour, but the trend is still the same and I love how the yellows and pinks really stand out on this dress.

With an all-over print I played down my accessories opting for a black clutch and my black Asos shoes, which I call my disco shoes as not only can I dance in them all night long but the heel sparkles like a disco ball. I just added a touch of colour to my bracelets and my nails to complement my dress.

Have you tried the winter floral look?

Never Underdressed: The Winter Coats Edit

Never underdressed coats 16 Never Underdressed: The Winter Coats Edit %tag

With a chill in the air it sadly feels like autumn all of a sudden, so I thought it was the right time to share some of the behind-the-scene snaps from the Never Underdressed shoot I took part in a few weeks ago to help them choose the ultimate selection of winter coats.

With hundreds to choose from it was a hard decision, plus a little dangerous for my bank balance as I now have a very long wish list of coats that I have to add to my wardrobe!!! Every trend you could imagine was represented – of course pink, lots of pink in every candy, sugary and bold shade you can think of, textures, stripes, prints, patterns, black, classic – everything was there.

Staying clear of the dark coats, mainly because we all have a black winter coat, I focused on the brights, the textured beauties and the pinks. Of course my favourite had to be one of the most expensive, I promise I didn’t mean to, but I put this oversized mustard Max Mara ‘Greta’ coat on before I even realised where it as from or its price, and at £1.300 it is a little out of my budget.

Another favourite had to be the bright pink Hobbs one I have on in the group shot, but I also love Kristabel’s H&M soft pink hue, which is a bargain at £70, and the ASOS vintage style cocoon coat that everyone has been coveting, I spoke to the press team and apparently more stock is on its way so keep checking.

I also loved Charlie May in the Sandro shearling biker, Isabelle in the AllSaints’ Klein Contrast coat and Never Underdressed’s assistant editor Kelly in her gorgeous Carven beauty. This year there are so many great coats to choose from.

The full edit of all our favourites, with us all modelling lots of coats, will be on Never Underdressed some time this week – don’t worry I won’t let you miss it I will of course share it on Twitter!!!

Have you already picked out your winter coat?
