Women In Suits: Anne Hathaway Rocks Viktor & Rolf

Anne-hathaway-Viktor_and_Rolf

My love of masculine styling on women is growing, there is something about a tuxedo jacket paired with slim trousers and high heels that I love to see, especially on the red carpet. At the weekend Madonna wore a wide-leg Ralph Lauren tux to the Grammys, which was one of my best looks, and over the past few months we have seen everyone from Kim Basinger to Julianna Margulies really show how hot the look can be.

Well this week I added another actress to the long list of women in suits to my growing Pinterest board with the lovely Anne Hathaway rocking a studded silk-lapel Viktor & Rolf blazer with slim-fit pants and a simple black tee to the Hollywood Stands Up To Cancer event.

This look from the Viktor & Rolf spring/summer 2014 collection is styled to perfection, I love the laid-back vibe of the look with the addition of the slouchy tee and the turned-up cuffs with the touch of elegance of the Lady Dior handbag and bow-front heels. Basically just a classy look that works as well as on the red carpet on a celebrity as it would to work or lunch with friends.

There has been a more casual feel to Anne Hathaway lately, maybe that’s to do with her new stylist Penny Lovell, who also works with Rose Byrne, but it will be interesting to see what the actress rocks to the Oscars in March.

Met Gala 2013: The Stars Who Embraced ‘Punk – Chaos To Couture’

Safe to say that a lot of celebrities and designers struggled with the punk fashion theme at this year’s Met Gala, some embraced the studs, fishnets, the safety pins, spikes and wrapped tape look, most went with heavier eye make-up than usual, some really took the theme to town, Madonna I am talking about you, while others just ignored it completely, Gwyneth I am pointing this in your direction, and some even made their hair the focus, oh hello Anne Hathaway’s bleached blonde hair-do!!!

Usually I do individual posts for the Met Gala much like my Oscar coverage, but this year I thought I would just do a round-up of my best dressed looks, and focus more on the stars that actually made punk high-fashion.

As you would expect with it being punk, there was a lot of black, not as much leather as I thought, but lots and lots of black. My favourite black look, and one of my favourites of the night, had to be Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier, a look featuring a leather and lace halter corseted bodice, black lace leggings and a tulle skirt, which was made perfectly punk with her incredible side-swept hair – seriously she so nailed it!!!

Coming in at a close second to Nina in the all-black category had to be Cara Delevingne in Burberry, as well as doing a great trench coat it seems that the British heritage brand also has a naughty side with this gorgeous and sexy spiked, plunging v-neck gown, which worked perfectly with her smokey dark eyes and sleek hair and her strong eye brows.

There were a lot of other black punk looks that caught my eye – Emma Watson in a revealing wrapped tape Prabal Gurung gown, Jennifer Lawrence in a polished Dior look, and Diane Kruger in Chanel, which was more grunge than punk but I did like the pink dip-dyed touch to her ponytail and spiked clutch. Then there were the blonde crop bombshells – Miley Cyrus and Anne Hathaway – who both looked incredible.

Sporting a slinky black mesh Marc Jacobs gown that Kate Moss has worn, I really liked Miley’s commitment to the theme and I think I am the only one who actually loved her OTT spiked hair. In contrast, Anne’s new blonde hair-do was more sleek and worked perfectly with her very revealing, gorgeously embellished vintage Valentino gown from 1992, which totally makes up for her Oscar look. I love that both totally went for it and I think it paid off.

But there was one look that completely blew me away and that had to be Sarah Jessica Parker wearing an incredible Philip Treacy mowhawk, a dark and moody paint-splatted printed Giles gown and incredible Christian Louboutin boots – now that is how you do punk fashion!!!

BAFTA Awards: Anne Hathaway In Burberry

BAFTA-anne-burberry

Who: Anne Hathaway

Where: At the 2013 EE British Academy Film Awards held at the Royal Opera House in London

Wearing: A black column Burberry gown, featuring short sleeves and a studded bodice, teamed with gold bangles, and a book-inspired clutch, showing off a vintage cover of Victor Hugo’s novel, Les Miserables

Verdict: With a rainy red carpet at last night’s BAFTAs a lot of the actresses covered up with huge coats, I am talking about you Jennifer Lawrence, while Anne Hathaway wore a sensible, slightly warmer option with this sporty, simple Burberry gown.

Even though this was one of my favourite looks of the night, I loved the understated shape and the bodice detailing really did shimmer on camera, it did leave me a little torn as I don’t think it was glamorous enough for the BAFTAs, a premiere yes, the British answer to the Oscars not so much.

But what did wow me about this look had to be her incredible book clutch, a tribute to the movie that has gained her a lot of recognition this award season. It was such a great touch to a simple outfit.

Her make-up and hair was also another highlight, which to be honest has been immaculate throughout the award season, but last night I loved her slightly grundy pixie, kohl-heavy eyes, and that pop of pink on her lips – it really did make her look incredible.

SAG Awards: Anne Hathaway In Giambattista Valli Couture

anne-hathaway-GValli

Who: Anne Hathaway

Where: At the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles

Wearing: A black silk embroidered tulle Giambattista Valli gown from the Haute Couture spring/summer 2013 collection, teamed with Jimmy Choo Kalpa sandals and Kwiat jewellery

Verdict: There was a lot of black again last night on the SAG Awards red carpet and one of the standout looks had to be from Anne Hathaway. I am not sure this is my favourite look from her, I do love that she went for something other than a column gown, but I would have like the dress to have been a bit more dramatic.

With that I mean I wish it was a little shorter, showed off her ankles and those killer Jimmy Choo heels, and that the tulle skirt was a little bigger, more frothy, more girlie if you like. I do get a vintage Hollywood feel about the look with her pixie cut, but I wanted it to be a little bit more extreme – as it is I just like it rather than loving it.

So we’ve had a white moment at the Golden Globes with Chanel Couture and now black with this Couture number, so can we expect a splash of colour for the Oscars???
