Editorial Loving: Homeland Gets Fashionable For US Vogue

I am a huge Claire Danes and Homeland fan so I was excited when I heard that the actress would be the star of US Vogue’s August issue, however, the cover is just a little blah, which disappointed me a little until I saw the amazing editorial shot by Annie Leibovitz accompanying it.

The espionage-themed photo shoot, captured on Homeland’s set, shows Claire Danes as her bipolar CIA agent character Carrie in a high-fashion editorial spread alongside her hottie co-star Damian Lewis and I love it.

I love the concept, the staging of recreating prominent scenes and scenarios from the show, and most of all the contrast of the high-fashion styling – how amazing would it be if Carrie actually did wear Victoria Beckham on a stack-out!!!

You have Claire sprawled out on a bed wearing Narciso Rodriguez gown, admiring herself in the interrogation mirror in a Calvin Klein Collection dress that Zoe Saldana wore while promoting Star Trek, and looking a little retro in the car wearing a matching Hermès lambskin jacket and skirt.

I just wish that the cover, which only saving grace is an amazing Burberry trench coat, was more explosive and representative of the accompanying editorial.

What do you think – are you a fan of US Vogue’s August cover?

Cover Loving: Gwen Stefani In Saint Laurent For Vogue

Gwen Stefani is certainly having a moment when it comes to magazine covers. This year I have already gushed about her divine Harper’s Bazaar September issue, her abs on the Marie Claire cover, and her digital print mash-up on the October issue of ELLE UK wearing Peter Pilotto and McQ by Alexander McQueen. Well it seems American Vogue wanted to end the year on a high with the release of the January issue with Gwen wearing an ensemble from Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane’s spring/summer 2013 collection.

Captured by Annie Leibovitz this is a gorgeous cover. I love the pose on the piano, the ruffles, the sparkly jacket, the pop of red on her lips and even the oversized felt hat – this cover is so memorising that I can let them off for putting too many cover lines all over her.

What do you think of Gwen’s latest magazine cover?

Cover Loving: Marion Cotillard Is The August Cover Queen

I thought August would have been a ‘cover-off’ between Spider-Man’s Emma Stone and Catwoman Anne Hathaway, as come on both make incredible cover stars and it would be the battle of the summer blockbusters, but it seems I was blindsided by the gorgeous French beauty Marion Cotillard who appears on no less than four different covers in four different countries for August making her a very in-demand actress.

The French star has taken covers on both American and Paris Vogue, as well as Marie Claire UK, and then this week another one was unveiled from ELLE South Africa, and what surprises me is that each cover is completely different but equally beautiful.

I have been trying to decide on my favourite, it is hard, I love the up-close beauty of the Paris Vogue, I love the Ralph Lauren Collection velvet blazer that she is wearing for American Vogue, and she looks incredible on both covers for Marie Claire – minus the fact that they have chopped part of her head off, that pink jacquard peplum top is divine, and then there is that exquisite Dior dress on the ELLE South Africa cover. How do you choose when they are all so good!!!

So were you surprised with Marion’s cover pulling power? And do tell me which cover is your favourite – I am swaying towards Paris Vogue just for the beauty of Marion’s face – but it is hard when that Dior gown looks as incredible as it does for ELLE!!!

US Vogue: A Predictable Jennifer Lopez Cover

Last week I brought you Jennifer Lopez doing her best Million Dollar Baby impression with her very unexpected sporty cover for V Magazine, well it seems April is J-Lo’s month as she is also fronting American Vogue’s Shape issue with a more traditional glamorous look.

When I saw this cover, I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t the other Jennifer – Lawrence that is promoting The Hunger Games as I am obsessed with the books, but I have to admit I don’t dislike it, however I am not wowed by it. Jennifer Lopez looks stunning in what looks like a Bottega Veneta gown in the cover shot taken by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott, but after seeing her do something completely different for V Magazine this shot is just nice, nothing more, nothing less. Am I being a little harsh?

What did surprise me was that Vogue seem to be having a love-in with singers lately – February went to Taylor Swift, March to the lovely Adele and now J-Lo. I am hoping for something a little different and more creative for May.
