Bag Loving: The Elie Saab Satchel

Elie-saab-bags-ss-6When I think of Elie Saab, I think gorgeous gowns, exquisite detailing, and one of my favourite red carpet designers, one think I don’t think about is that they do handbags, and it seems like I have been missing out.

I have really been embracing smaller handbags lately, from my bright yellow Rebecca Minkoff to my dinky Anya Hindmarch Tiny Tim, and I am always on the look out for another little beauty to add to my collection and I just spotted this gorgeous satchel style from Elie Saab with its chain shoulder strap. Everything about this mini bag screams classic elegance and when looking for a new designer bag I want something that will look modern past the current season, it is an investment after all.

These leather satchels designed with a floral palette tone for spring/summer 2014 are gorgeous, I love that even though there are only six styles each one is in a striking classic colourway from emerald-green to jasmine white. If I had to pick a favourite I think it would have to be deep raspberry, not only is the colour pure Barbie perfection but the piping detailing really adds a modern touch to a classic style.

SS14: Sophia Webster Is Supa Dupa Fly

SS14: Sophia Webster Is Supa Dupa Fly

During London Fashion Week one of the most talked about presentations had to be Sophia Webster’s secret garden in the middle of Regent’s Park for her spring/summer 2014 collection entitled, Supa Dupa Fly. I sadly missed it, and was uber jealous of everyone that attended as I love Sophia’s quirky accessories – from the incredible crafted heels to her speech bubble clutches.

Shopping: Hobbs’ Impressive Autumn/Winter Collection

One of the brands that surprised me during the autumn/winter 2013 press days had to be Hobbs, I’ve heard such good things from the retailer from my friends, but I have to be honest I don’t regularly shop there.

For AW13 the offering is really strong and directional – with incredible bold tailored coordinated pieces, gorgeous oversized, mannish coats, and super flattering full skirts and items with delicate detailing on such as cut-work lace and scalloped edged collars.

There is an elegance about the new collection, that you would expect from Hobbs, but also a more fashion-forward feel – it really has stepped up for autumn/winter to rival Jaeger for contemporary womenswear with an edge.

One of the highlights of the collection for me has to be the gorgeous ‘Persephone’ tapestry-inspired silk printed matching pieces, the green print really made an impact at the preview, and the model look incredible wearing the trousers, shirt, coat and bag together. For everyday life maybe this look is a tad too bold, but I think the trousers and coat could totally work together with a more neutral top.

There were a lot of other pieces that stood out from the oversized mannish windowpane checked coat to the dress worn over a shirt and trousers, and the gorgeous feminine details of the Hobbs N.W.3 collection.

But what really caught my eye was the strength of its accessories collection, especially its Italian-made footwear from cute brogues from the traditional to the heeled to the boot variety, leopard-print ankle boots and wear all-day long stacked court shoes. This really is a great place to look for new classic shoes this season.

Are you a fan of Hobbs? Let me know in the comments below what you think of the autumn/winter 2013 collection.

The collection has already started to drop online and in store – to help you get started on your autumn wardrobe I have picked out some of my favourite pieces below:

Label Lust: British Designer Sophie Hulme

Sophie Hulme, might be relative new to the fashion scene, but this is an emerging designer with a big future that has been catching a lot of attention and is one of my current label lusts – I seem to have a long list of her collection in my wishlist!!!

Everything from her quirky charms, I still have my gold dinosaur from a few seasons back, to her structured bags adorned with her signature gold plates and rivets around the handles, to her ready-to-wear collection that has a pared back androgynous aesthetic with a sense of humour – this is a designer who has a distinctive style while still offering something timeless.

What I love about Sophie Hulme, other than the humorous elements that she adds into her collections like the monster charm above, has to be the fact that her designs are minimal and logo free and that they are recognisable on her signature style alone – the gorgeous luxurious gold armour-inspired hardware, which for such a young designer is a bold, but clever move.

For me, it is all about her boxy tote, it is more than just an ‘It’ bag, it is more like a classic-in-the-making, I really do believe that her signature minimalistic style is timeless and will see this bag in years to come sitting along the Hermes Birkin, the Chanel 2.55, the Lady Dior, and Mulberry’s Bayswater. I think I would want this beauty in a black or navy blue, a classic dark colour, but I love that for her Resort 14 collection she has added it in a vibrant coral hue.

As well as loving all of her bags, did you spy the pink clutch below – it is a thing of beauty, I love her quirky charms from the dinosaur to the whistle, I want them all, but most of all from my visit around the Polly & King showroom I was totally blown away by how her ready-to-wear line, which uses the handbag details of the rivets, chains, and gold plates to add a modern touch to classic pieces such as a white tee and a trench coat.

I know I am gushing but I just can’t help but love her timeless designs – I am seriously saving up my pennies to treat myself to one of her structured totes!!!
