A Postcard From: Olivia Rubin For Dorothy Perkins

Yesterday I got the chance to finally check out the Olivia Rubin for Dorothy Perkins collection, which I have been dying to see since I found out about the collaboration at the brand’s spring/summer press day last year, and OMG I love it all.

This is one beautifully executed designer high street collaboration, not only is it instantly recognisable as Olivia Rubin with the fun prints, the sexy silhouettes of the dresses and tops with peplums and wrap details, the funky separates with key-hole detailing and cut-outs, and the gorgeous bright pink hues that Olivia is known for, but it has a Dorothy Perkins feel to it with the flattering designs and most importantly the affordable prices, as nothing in the collection costs more than £50, which is seriously amazing when you see some of the dresses.

Inspired by memories of her travels, this debut high street collection for DP entitled ‘A Postcard From’ is basically all about summer fun, and with more than 20 pieces in the collection there really is something for everyone, from: the gorgeous high-end bird print chiffon maxi dresses in either a hot Barbie pink or a soft grey for £45, or how about a shell printed peplum top for £25 that is supper flatter and is so on trend right now, and then there is the awesome beach inspired statement jewellery with shell earrings, bracelets and necklaces, which starts at just £7.50.

Oh and nearly forgot this collection also includes Olivia’s first foray into swimwear with the cutest gold shell print bikini and an uber-flattering swimsuit that I need for summer.

I can’t express enough how much I loved each and every piece, I have to say this is one gorgeous collection that when it comes out next Tuesday I can envisage selling out pretty quickly.

The prints:

The lookbook:

Some of my favourite pieces:

So if you like it as much as I do, get yourself down to one of DP’s top 25 stores from Tuesday, April 24 – think London – Stratford, Marble Arch, Victoria, Westfield, and West One; Manchester Arndale and Trafford Centre; Birmingham High Street; Bluewater; Lakeside; as well as Belfast, Dublin, Leeds, Bristol, Glasgow, Sheffield, Gateshead, Newcastle, Portsmouth, and Southampton.

Need more convincing that this is a fab collection? Well prices start at just £7.50 and the highest priced item is £49 for a bird print peplum dress. Plus the sizes range from 8-18. Be quick as once it is gone it is gone, this is a strictly limited edition collection, which will be coming back for autumn/winter – yeah!!!

Clutch Lust: Gorgeous Laser-Cut Leather Lace

I love bags, I generally have one in every colour, and all are various sizes of big, bigger and huge – it seems small isn’t really in my vocabulary when it comes to buying handbags. But what I have discovered lately is that tiny is beautiful and I think it is my need for  a clutch for all occasions that is driving my latest shopping obsession.

I find that when it comes to teaming my going out outfits with accessories jewellery is covered, even shoes, but I always pass on the bag because I have nothing suitable, which means that I generally just take my phone. Lately however, mainly due to a friends wedding looming this summer I have been thinking I need to invest in one kick-arse clutch, and my first option that I have falling in love with is this oh-so-feminine creamy laser-cut leather lace Be&D clutch. Gorgeous isn’t it!!!

The mix of taupe leather and laser-cut leather lace has just the right mix of glamour, drama, and intrigue to make it a clutch that can work with generally any outfit – from a uber-sophisticated occasion to dressing up jeans, a top, and kick-arse heels – I reckon this beauty might be perfect for me.

It is from Be&D’s spring/summer 2012 collection and hasn’t hit the brands website yet, but its other envelope-style clutches are around the $200 mark, I reckon with all the intricate detailing this might be double that but in terms of investment potential I am going to add it to my wishlist!!!

As well as the snaps I took in the Greene & Sheppard showroom, including the matching tote bag, which is also gorgeous I have also included the image from the lookbook – mainly because I am intrigued by the strange concept of using fashion clowns. But even with this creepy shot I am still loving this clutch.

SS12 Press Day: Round Up – River Island and Mango

At the end of 2011 I went to a lot of spring/summer press days, most of which I still haven’t blogged about *I know bad blogger*, so I thought the best thing to do was a round-up of my favourite pieces to give you an idea what’s going to be hitting the shops when spring finally arrives. First round up is River Island and Mango.

River Island:

Last season River Island was one of my favourite press days and once again it didn’t disappoint – I loved its use of prints, colours and textures. Taking a lot of influences from the catwalk there was a nod to Holly Fulton’s graphic prints, a knitted fringed dress inspired by Mark Fast, and a gorgeous  studded embellished two-piece that had a hint of Versace about it.

What stood out the most for this contemporary collection had to be the accessories, always a place to pick up a quality bag this season’s line is so strong. I love the neon flashes on the shoulder bags, the tribal embellishments and the gorgeous over-sized clutches.

Oh and the denim – those leopard print ones looks amazing!!!

I have to admit Mango isn’t a shop that I stop by regularly, which is crazy when I look back at the snaps I took at the spring/summer press day as all the clothes looks amazing – full of sleek tailoring, contrasting colours, 60s influencing on the dresses, and some of the best pastel and sorbet tones on the high street.

I loved the use of light fabrics in gorgeous candy colours, top of my wish list has to be this light pink collarless blazer – how cute will that look paired with jeans and a simply white tee.

I was also really impressed with the accessories there were some gorgeous jewellery pieces but the bags were exquisite, my favourites being the mock-croc shoulder bags and the tribal-influenced tote.

SS12: Ted Baker Team Day Fashion Show

Last month I was lucky enough to snuggle under a white fleecy Ted Baker blanket, while oohing and aahing at the brand’s new spring/summer 2012 collection at their Ted Baker Team Day at the Bloomsbury Dairy. The special preview is the retailer’s bi-annual event to showcase the new collection to all the Ted Baker staff, fab idea if you ask me, and it was nice that this season they also invited a few bloggers to take in the show.

The collection was adorable, full of rich prints, strong silhouettes, and bright colours, which was perfectly displayed on a gorgeous line of dresses that would work perfectly for the wedding season. I fell in love with the blue pleated maxi, the yellow ladylike hues, geeky tailoring, and I totally want to work the top-hat look to my next formal function, I loved it paired with those flirty dresses.

The ending was also pretty spectacular full of divine floor-skimming gowns that wouldn’t look out-of-place on the red carpet.

For more pictures of Ted Baker’s spring/summer 2012 collection pop on over to my Facebook Page.

As well as all the clothes – any chance I can have the Ted Baker cow?

SS12 Lookbook: Sindy Back Modelling For Irregular Choice

So not quite Barbie, but come a close second right??!!!??

Last season I loved that quirky footwear brand, Irregular Choice styled their autumn/winter lookbook in doll-size inside Sindy’s apartment, well I am loving spring/summer 2012 even more as it seems Sindy has upgraded to a swish pad with a pool and even a tennis court.

This is more than a cute concept, I adore all the shoes from the rainbow woven wedges called ‘Weaver’ to the ‘Alien Farmer’ pumps that Sindy is sporting to play tennis in, and to finish up the collection is the chic-but-very-unconventional collection of wedding shoes – loving the ‘Milk Mint’.

Now how do I go about getting these shoes, props, clothing – well everything from the lookbook for my Barbie dolls???

**Sadly Barbie and doll lovers these shoes were only for the lookbook, no Barbie sizes available!!**

Warehouse SS12: Ladylike Pastel Hues and Graphic Prints

For spring/summer 2012, Warehouse have really lifted the bar, the collection is full of statement graphics that wouldn’t look out-of-place on a Peter Pilotto or a Mary Katrantzou runway; gorgeous pastel hues inspired by Louis Vuitton, Jonathan Saunders and 3.1 Philip Lim, and an urban sport collection filled with clean-cut silk jersey drapes, neutral tones and pops of sunshine yellow.

I adored so many pieces, everything had a luxurious feel that I have to admit I was surprised it was Warehouse, spring/summer is really going to be their season. I was so impressed with everything from the structured day dresses to the ladylike lace detailing, clean  sports lines and all the gorgeous heavy embellishments – I can’t wait to revamp my wardrobe.

SS12 Campaign: Jil Sander Inspired By Hitchcock

I do love it when a femme fatale style ad campaign is done well and this spring/summer 2012 campaign from Jil Sander is a gorgeous, dark and moody display styled by Olivier Rizzo. Starring Natasha Poly and Daria Strokous, everything from the staging to the divine tailored pieces, especially this emerald-green dress, which accentuates all the curves, and the crack glass shots are just inspired.

It really is a beautiful campaign shot by Willy Vanderperre, it may even rival my other favourite SS12 campaign of the retro beach holiday from Mulberry, even if it is the polar opposite. This is why I love fashion, the different vibes of two very different brands, each works and both created such an impact on me.
