My Style: Finding The Perfect Leather Dress

My Style Outnet 8 My Style: Finding The Perfect Leather Dress %tag

I have a list of wardrobe essentials that I am constantly trying to perfect, whether it is finding that white shirt that fits perfectly, or the softest cashmere jumper, or even that hero pair of skinny jeans that never loses its shape. One thing on that list that I haven’t got close to finding, well until I spotted this Iris & Ink beauty on The Outnet, had to be a leather dress.

I am pretty fussy, it had to be nearer to knee-length than mini-skirt, it had to be roomy enough that I could wear all day and still eat, it had to be quality, and most importantly it had to be more tailored than rock-chick and I definitely feel that the Aria Iris & Ink belted suede and leather dress ticks all those boxes.

I love that the combination of leather and suede really does make this a more contemporary take on the leather dress, it makes it a lot more comfortable to wear and I adore that you can nip in the waist with the belt, which I switched up for a skinny leather number as the dress was a little big the suede belt it came with wasn’t working for me.

The Iris & Ink collection at The Outnet has long been a favourite of mine, it is basically filled with timeless, quality wardrobe essentials and I love that I was able to style up this beauty for my blog. One of the areas that has been expanding for the label has to be the accessories, first it was oversized pouches to style up as a cool clutch and this season they have added some gorgeous leather pieces, my favourite being the ‘Camden’ Iris & Ink leather backpack, which you can wear as a backpack or as a bucket handbag, dependant on how you feel and what you are wearing.

There is a lot of love at the moment for bucket bags, they are everywhere, and what I love about this one is its versatility and how it works two trends – backpack and bucket bag, plus it is made from the dreamiest of leathers. It is also super roomy, I do love a bag that can carry all my stuff plus my big SLR. After test driving this beauty I don’t think any other bucket bag will quite cut it, I love that when it is super heavy that you can just change it up and wear it as a backpack. I think this beauty is a fashion week must.

Are you on the hunt for something off your wardrobe essentials list?

My Wedding: My Purely Diamonds Wedding Ring

My wedding IHNY 16 My Wedding: My Purely Diamonds Wedding Ring %tag

I didn’t know how important my wedding ring would mean to me until the love of my life placed it on my finger during out vows, it was at that moment I was so pleased that I didn’t go with a plain band and added some sparkle as it really represents what a beautiful moment we both shared.

I love jewellery especially bracelets and necklaces but rings I find hard to choose, I am not sure why, but the wedding band worried me a lot. My worries tripled after visiting numerous high street jewellers and trying on lots of bling rings that I just felt weren’t right for me and didn’t complement my engagement ring. I was so please when Purely Diamonds got in touch about their bespoke design service as it really did make the wedding ring search so easy.

My wedding IHNY 26 My Wedding: My Purely Diamonds Wedding Ring %tagWhat I loved most about Purely Diamonds was that they really understood that I was looking for a ring that didn’t overpower engagement ring, they took my concerns, my dreams and wishes, and truly designed a gorgeous ring that thankfully didn’t have any round or square diamonds, which was a big thing for me as I wanted emerald cut just like my engagement ring.

During the process I don’t think I was much help, all I knew was the shape of diamond, the colour – it had to be platinum, and it had to be a similar band size to my engagement ring. I think they would have loved for me to say what carat weight and clarity but I have no clue on that sort of thing, but lucky for me the team really know there stuff and were super patient with me and I loved that they even photoshopped the ring design next to my engagement ring so I could really see that it complemented it impeccably.

I love that it adds to the beauty of my engagement ring that Paulie designed with a subtle-yet-beautiful line of diamonds, which really do twinkle perfectly when the light catches them. Separately my rings are beautiful, together though they really are divine and Purely Diamonds really did capture our love perfectly.

Using an online jeweller might worry some people, but once you scroll through their rings, be warned there are a lot, you will see the quality and beauty of their designs, and don’t worry if you don’t see something that isn’t quite right, trust me they will be able to design it for you.

Did you struggle to find your perfect wedding ring?

My Wedding: A Closer Look At My Vintage Wedding Gown

My wedding IHNY 4 My Wedding: A Closer Look At My Vintage Wedding Gown %tag

I don’t know any bride, who doesn’t want an incredible wedding gown, but it is hard to get something unique, dramatic-yet-still elegant, with an Old Hollywood feel that is within some reasonable budget. Add on top the rest of my very long wishlist, not too white, a wow skirt, beading or embroidery and with romantic floaty sleeves – I thought it was more fantasy than reality.

I wasn’t against a modern, boutique gown, I would have loved the money to treat myself to a designer number like Vera Wang or Elie Saab, but I was realistic with my finances and I just felt that a vintage beauty would be more fitting to our elopement wedding in New York, and would possible give me that couture, red carpet feeling without the price tag.

I know vintage doesn’t mean cheap, but I was willing to hunt around for the one. Thankfully I didn’t search long for my gorgeous gown, to be honest I didn’t search at all. My gown came to me by chance, we had only been engaged less than a month when our friends who were with us in New York came to stay and we took them to Bury St Edmonds, we kind of took a wrong turn exploring the town and we found vintage store, House Of Huxster. I thought it was a long shot, but as soon as I saw it I loved it, I didn’t think it would fit me, but I loved it and thank god for stretch!

My wedding IHNY 2 a My Wedding: A Closer Look At My Vintage Wedding Gown %tag

It needed a little work, it originally had spaghetti straps, which I felt didn’t really do the dress justice, and it didn’t have enough drama on the bottom, but I was introduced the incredible Irene, an amazing seamstress and she really did work her magic. She added floaty sleeves to add a touch of romance, more layers of pouf under the skirt, re-shaped the skirt, added a belt, and made more tulle ruffles that were so close to the original that you can’t even tell which ones are new. Irene basically brought my vision to life, held my hand through those wobbles of thinking I was too fat, the worry that it was too formal for what we were doing, and my last-minute panic that Paul wouldn’t like it, I should have known that he would love it.

The gown to me just felt like it was made for New York. I love everything about the gown and how it combined everything I wanted – the beading, the tulle, the sleeves and the unusual skirt, which is my favourite thing about the dress – it looks great in photos, but more than that it made me feel like I was floating when I walked. It was the most perfect gown and I am so pleased the professional pictures from I Heart New York have come out so well, the dress really shines.

My wedding IHNY 10 My Wedding: A Closer Look At My Vintage Wedding Gown %tag

As the dress makes such a statement I didn’t want to go too crazy with my jewellery so I went for pieces that I felt complimented it. The highlight being my great grandmother’s pearls, they are so gorgeous, I love the off-white colour and the fact that they are 80 years old I just felt that they belong with my vintage number, and when else can you get away with wearing the most exquisite pearl necklace.

I then went for Tiffany infinity bow bracelet that was a present from Paul a couple of years ago, which looked great with my silver heart bracelet from my friend Sarah, I just loved that she made Paul give it to me on the plane over to New York as she received one before her wedding, and the final piece of arm candy was my pearl and silver cuff from the Jenny Packham for Debenhams collection that I found in my jewellery box just before we flew out, I love how it has similar beads to my dress. The final touch were my Kenneth Jay Lane sparkly earrings, something simple that catches the light.

The last thing to mention about my New York wedding look are my shoes. My plan was to have navy blue, to match Paul’s tux jacket, the only problem was that my vintage gown didn’t have the height to take anything higher than 2 inch heels, which I am so pleased about now, and I just couldn’t find anything I liked. I wanted designer shoes without the price tag so I went on the sample sale hunt and that’s when I spotted these white Jimmy Choo with a tiny heel, they are super comfortable and I love the pointy toe on them.

The surprise addition, which looks like it was made just for me, was my Mr And Mrs clutch from Kate Spade. Paul actually ordered this beauty and picked up on our wedding day, it was such a lovely surprise and it seems I am not the only one loving it as it has been a bit of a hit on Instagram. Well if you can’t find statement heels you have to do a clutch!

It feels like an end of chapter finally showing off my amazing wedding gown, especially as I kept it a secret not just from Paul but nearly everyone as I wanted it to make a statement, which I hope it did. I know everyone has an opinion on wedding gowns and I would love to hear what you think of my choice, as I really couldn’t be happier with it.

I’m Married: Returning As A MRS!!!

fashionista barbie weds 11 Im Married: Returning As A MRS!!! %tag

For years I didn’t think marriage really meant that much, well not to us, we love each other, we have a house, we have a car, we have the pets, and I didn’t need a ring to signify how committed we were to each other, we’ve been together for 11 years, that is pretty committed. It has been strange over the past year, while planning our wedding, how important this ultimate commitment has become to me and I have to be honest I didn’t realise how much becoming a Mrs would change me, how I feel towards my now husband and just how happy it would make me, which if you haven’t guessed – very!!!

I was such a cynic, I loved going to weddings and see my friends say their vows, but a year ago I would have said I would be happy without, how wrong I was. When we said our vows to one another, in front of our lovely friends who made the trip to New York with us, I had never felt such joy before, here was the love of my life telling me I was the one, and it really did make me glow with love and happiness, truly one of the best days ever.

For some, a ceremony not performed in front of god doesn’t mean as much, and I have to totally disagree – no matter how or where you say your vows the commitment is between just the two of you. I am not saying a religious service isn’t a good idea or needed, I am just saying that it wasn’t for us. I only really bring it up as someone commented that it wasn’t as deep a connection. To those who feel that way I have to tell them no matter what the words are, I felt the love of my husband and even though it was only a couple of minutes, I took it seriously and enjoyed every second of it, and I even shed a few happy tears.

Enough of the heavy stuff, back to the fun and romance of getting married in New York, which I have to tell you, is the best. I have never been to a city where they wholeheartedly embrace a bride and groom and it made us both feel so special and blessed. Everywhere we went people congratulated us, told me how pretty I looked, how much they loved my dress, including tennis champ Serena Williams, and even took our picture. It was so lovely, it has made me wonder whether we would have got the same response in London’s Hyde Park or Trafalgar Square.

The professional pictures aren’t quite ready but I didn’t want to wait to share some snapshots from our special day, you might have already seen some of these before as I have shared on Instagram, but I promise the real deal very soon.

fashionista barbie weds 13 Im Married: Returning As A MRS!!! %tag

We basically took snaps in all of our favourite places in New York to have the most amazing wedding pictures, in front of the Brooklyn Bridge and New York skyline, in Grand Central Station and Central Park, and we even made a stop at the Sprinkles ATM for a slice, or should I say wedding cupcake, as you have to eat cake on your wedding day. Afterwards we headed to the Plaza for champagne to celebrate, before dining the night away at Tavern on the Green, which I promise to share all about in a separate post, as if you are planning to go to New York you need to eat here.

I will talk more about my amazing wedding dress and accessories in its own special blog, as let’s be honest this vintage beauty needs to be shared, and how cool is my Mr And Mrs clutch from Kate Spade, it was the perfect wedding day present from my wonderful husband. They will also be dedicated posts about my hair and make-up, huge thanks to Priv, my custom wedding band from Purely Diamonds, which I adore, and all those little things that just made it such a special day, plus if you are thinking of eloping in New York I will bring you all the top tips!!!

I really can’t express how amazing these past few weeks have been, and I hope that I don’t bore you to death with wedding pictures, because as well as our New York celebration we then had a party in the UK, so I have a totally different look to share with you guys as well.

So would you consider eloping in New York City or did you? I would love to hear all your lovely wedding day stories and plans, leave me a comment below.

My Style: A Flirty Asos Midi Skirt

my style asos skirt 3 My Style: A Flirty Asos Midi Skirt %tag

Lately I have been trying to embrace the midi skirt, being more ladylike, and trying, and mostly failing to sometimes leave the jeans in my wardrobe for a little rest, and I thought afternoon tea at the Laura Ashley Elstree Hotel was the perfect occasion to show of this incredible cobalt blue Asos skirt in woven crêpe.

I bought this beauty for fashion week and my regularly size was too big, which basically made me jump for joy, so it feels good showing off this gorgeous skirt in a smaller size, and actually thinking I look slim for a change. I think this has a lot to do with the skirt, it is super flattering, beautifully cut, and the woven crêpe material really does make it look and feel more expensive than its £30 price tag. It is a steal of a price and this skirt will be an autumn/winter hero for me as I think it will work just as well with tights and a chunkier knit.

As I wanted to show of the high-waisted fit I wore it with my lightweight grey knit, also from Asos, I promise I didn’t intentionally raid my wardrobe for a head-to-toe Asos look – it just happened. I love this jumper, as not only is it super comfortable and soft to the touch but it also has the most adorable lace hearts on the elbows. I do love little quirky touches, and in my bride-to-be craziness I just thought the heart made my look bridal, I know it isn’t but I have weddings on my mind!!!

Maybe it is the longer length to the skirt, or the flattering high-waist, or even the bold colour, but I just find myself actually liking not only the way I look, but also feeling how happy I am in these pictures – if that makes sense. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate on myself, well not all the time, but I am not the most comfortable in front of camera, I know crazy that I am a fashion blogger, but maybe, just maybe I am getting a little more confident about featuring my style, only taken me nearly five years!

So what do you think about this midi skirt?

My Style: Relaxing Vibes With James Jeans

My Style James jeans 13 My Style: Relaxing Vibes With James Jeans %tag

Sorry for the lack of blog posts this past week or so but I haven’t been too well, which sucks especially when you are in the midst of last-minute planning for a wedding, but it seems that my body decided, with a very public fainting episode that I needed to take it a little easier, and who am I to argue that.

But it seems that taking a back seat from Fashionista Barbie has made me miss my favourite doll so I thought I would ease back into blogging with this recent style post I snapped at Audley End House a few weekends ago when my Mum came to stay, plus I totally needed to share these fab James Jeans skinny jeans.

I love relaxing weekends visiting historical landmarks, I am kind of obsessed by architecture, but lately I can’t help but become consumed by the gardens at these stately homes when I visit in the hope that the gorgeous displays will magically appear in my own garden. Audley End is particularly pretty not only because of its Jacobean features, but also because it has such grand water features, impressive grounds, as well as some gorgeous floral displays. It is one of those places that literally just takes all the stress away. The only thing I think it could improve on is its cafe, it certainly wasn’t like visiting a National Trust property, but that just means that next time I come back it will be with a picnic basket stocked full of goodies.

As it was sunny but not crazy warm I decided to wear my new James Jeans ‘Twiggy’ skinnys, which when you see them off I even questioned whether I would squeeze myself into them, but the magic of these mid-to-high rise skinnys is that they have great stretch, and in this slate colour they really are rather forgiving. But what I really want to test out was the famous bum-lifting pocket tuck that James Jeans is known, which is probably why the likes of Kristen Stewart, Ashley Greene and Jessica Alba wear them, as they really do make you feel amazing, and hopefully makes my arse look hot!!!

My Style James Jeans 3 My Style: Relaxing Vibes With James Jeans %tag

As it was a causal day I decided to pair these beauties with a shirt/jumper combo, perfect for the weekend, and I really do love the pop of pink under this grey and black jumper, and they both worked with my uber-bright Nike trainers for wandering around the grounds and house.

What I love most about this outfit is that it is one of those looks that you instantly feel good in and that you can wear again, and again, and best of all it really doesn’t require planning or thinking – it is just comfortable, and so me.

I know people are saying that skinny jeans are on their way out, but I just think that is coming from people who haven’t discovered their perfect pair yet, and trust me there is a pair out there to suit everyone. I really do think that skinny jeans have a place in everyone’s wardrobe, but I have to be honest I can’t wait to dig out my flares again!!!

Have you tested out James Jeans’ famous bum-lifting pocket tuck?

Fashion Week Diary: LFW SS15 – Day 5

Primark sweatshirt Fashion Week Diary: LFW SS15 – Day 5 %tag

It is sad that this was the final day of London Fashion Week SS15. Normally I feel a little relieved that it is over, I’m generally over the fashion week drama by day 5 and super tired, but this season there hasn’t been any drama, or if there has I haven’t witnessed it, my more relaxed schedule has meant I am not as tired, and I am actually ending the five days of fashion madness with a little sadness that the circus is all moving onto Milan without me **one day, I hope I will go too**.

Day 5 for me is always quiet, heck it is generally quiet for everyone, but without Ashish this season I am left with just two shows, the Tata-Naka presentation and my first visit to Fashion Scout to see the young designer George Styler, who was one of last season’s Ones to Watch recipients.

LFW George Styler 14 Fashion Week Diary: LFW SS15 – Day 5 %tag

When a show starts with two shirtless models wearing nothing but printed swimming trunks, bling jewellery and gold embellished head-pieces you kind of know that it is going to be a fun and creative showcase. What I loved most about George Styler’s SS15 collection was the humour, the fact that he actually put on a show and I think the Vestibule in the Freemason’s Hall at Fashion Scout was the perfect location, as well as the intricate detailing from web-style knitwear, to bold embellishments and the Lady Gaga-esq bold shoulders and hips.

I really thought that the use of bright colours, the sexy dresses and decorative detailing really gave it a 90’s street-style-meets-Barbie vibe, which of course I loved. Some of my highlights had to be the vibrant pink kitty cat body, couldn’t you just see Katy Perry wearing this on tour, and another was the pink corset with gold detailing paired with the cutest rainbow-knitted cape. I also have to mention those incredible head-pieces, it was kind of like modern Egyptian headdress, it really did an extra element to the looks.

George Styler’s carefree spirit and bold creativity really has made him a designer to watch, he really did bring a fun and a modern vibe to his collection and wasn’t afraid to step away from the norm to be himself. I can only imagine his collection’s getting better and better.

As well as being sad about the whole no fashion week until February, I was also sad that this was my last The Apartment lunch at the Gourmet Burger Kitchenit has been nice to actually not eat on the go, to actually sit down with friends, and to enjoy delicious food rather than just chocolate bars and popcorn, which is generally my normal fashion week diet.

I have kind of been through The Apartment menu, I have had a falafel burger, a burger-less chicken pesterella, a goat’s cheese salad, too many chunky skin-on fries, as well as today’s chilli chicken salad, oh and because I have been extra naughty each day has been joined with a delicious chocolate milkshake, they are too good to refuse.

LFW Day 5 My Style 2a Fashion Week Diary: LFW SS15 – Day 5 %tag

Onto my finally LFW look, it is probably quite similar to last season as come Tuesday the only footwear I can stand are trainers, today’s comfortable footwear option were my classic Onitsuka Tiger’s, which as well as looking amazing, that shade of pink is to-die-for, they are so comfortable.

I also think a ripped denim skirt goes perfectly with trainers, but this whole look was centred around my bargain Primark varsity sweatshirt, which go so many complements and looks of surprise when I told them it was from Primark. I just really loved that it was cosy on, it kind of made me feel like I could have been a cheerleader if I had pom-poms, and it was the perfect casual vibe for a final day of fashion week.

I don’t think this look would have looked so good if it hadn’t been for my Kardashian-like waves that Blow Ltd did for my hair. Nothing can make a girl happier and feel more confident than bouncy curls, especially when your hair is as straight as mine.

My final presentation was Tata-Naka, always a favourite to see as the presentation, live lookbook shoot really does let you get close-up and personal to the clothes, as well as the thinking behind what the designers are looking for.

For SS15 the collection was inspired by clean lines and the simplicity of modern architecture, drawing inspiration from the curve and the linear approach of architects Frank Gehry and Zaha Hadid, which really came across in the silhouettes as well as the prints.

The designers use of a bright colour palette and floral prints were present, as was the use of texture, what surprised me was the use of black and white, which I thought really added balance to the collection.

The presentation also got top marks for handing out mini ice-creams, which was definitely needed as the weather has been surprising hot this fashion week.

So this isn’t the end of my fashion week coverage, I promise to share more pictures of the shows I loved, as well as gush about a few collections that I didn’t attend but adored/want to wear/want to see on the red carpet, and I will also be putting together a SS15 trends post.
