LFW Show Report: Charlie May AW14

LFW AW14 Charlie May 2 LFW Show Report: Charlie May AW14 %tag

Each season Charlie May keeps on growing, she is still relatively new to this fashion business but I love how she really does play on her minimal and androgynous aesthetic each season. Autumn/winter 2014 really does feel like a continuation of her SS14 sporty and minimal vibe, last season there were a lot of metallics, this season it has a stronger vibe with a black, white and navy colour palette.

I love that the key to Charlie’s collection is simplicity, the simplicity in the silhouettes, the colour palette, the selection of pieces, there is always a really cohesive vibe from her collections. Last season I was blown away by the cracked silver foil effect metallic pieces, this time around I am in love with the sculpted knitted tops and skirts.

Highlights for me had to be the nearly floor-length cosy coats, the huge roll neck sweaters, the ripped jeans at the knee and the voluminous skirts – now if only I was cool enough to wear it all!!!

What’s In My Bag: My LFW Lifesavers

LFW Bag 1 Whats In My Bag: My LFW Lifesavers %tag

Each fashion week I always lay out a different bag for each day and each season I never really stray away from one as it turns out to be perfect for carrying all my LFW essentials, which are better known as my lifesavers as fashion week turns me into a right drama queen!!!

Last year I did a blog post on the 8 Things A Fashion Blogger Needs On-The-Go, you guys all seemed to love it, and most of the things I still really agree with – the phone is still important, fast connection is a must, never go anywhere without a pad or a proper camera, and always go for a bag that is not only roomy enough but is comfortable when it is all packed in.

For the autumn/winter 2014 shows I packed my loaned Russell & Bromley Gilt Edge handbag with all that and more. The major change from my blog post last year has to be the technology, I still agree with ditching the laptop, but this season I am all about the Windows Surface 2 – part tablet, part laptop – just slimmer, lighter and so perfect for putting in your handbag.

I have gushed about the Windows Surface 2 before, I am obsessed with using it while I am cooking with its hand-swipe technology, but it is also great for doing my work while I am out-and-about. Not only is it light, it also comes complete with Office – so it means I can do all my work using Word, which is so much easier than using notepad on the iPad, plus it means that there isn’t a chance of sending copy that has spelling mistakes in, which is so easy to do when you are rushing about during fashion week.

The other piece of technology that has been a lifesaver is the Samsung Note 3, I spoke a little about it in an earlier style post, but I really can’t stress how amazing it has been especially when it comes to editing photographs on-the-go. The camera itself is great, it has an amazing 13 MP, but it is the combination of the large 5.7″ display and S Pen that makes it great for getting the best picture ever, and the pre-loaded editing software is just as good as any of the apps you can download like VSO Cam and Snapseed.

The phone also has a Scrapbook function, I think this is available for all Samsung devices, which is great for organising photos and videos to make them easier to find. The other lifesaving function had to be the multi-window, which allows you view two different applications on the large screen – so I could look at my social media channels, while checking out my schedule for where I was suppose to be heading.

As well as technology there were three other items that I couldn’t leave the house without – my fingerless gloves knitted by mum, cosy and perfect, my Lola by Marc Jacobs perfume, everyone needs to smell nice, and Soap & Glory’s Kick Ass Concealer, a three-piece camouflage kit that always to perk up my make-up.

What essentials do you swear by for fashion week?

LFW Show Report: Markus Lupfer AW14

LFW AW14 Markus Lupfer 2 LFW Show Report: Markus Lupfer AW14 %tag

You can always leave it to Markus Lupfer to bring a touch of fun to fashion week, last season it was a teenage girl’s bedroom, and for autumn/winter 2014 it is all about the local “caff”.

Inspired by the quintessential charm of England – from a builders café in Manchester to riding the Big Dipper in Blackpool and buying rock on Brighton Pier – this is a collection that mixes the tongue-in-cheek with more grown-up ready-to-wear pieces.

SS14 was fun and girlie, AW14 is moodier with a contemporary nod to Mod fashions with uniform-like silhouettes, pinafore-inspired dresses, boxy jackets and striking prints featuring florals, polka dots and leopard print.

If like me you are a lover of his statement sequinned knits they are still in the collection but sadly only the Cafe one seem to appear at the presentation. According to the show notes there will also be jumpers featuring slogans including ‘Kiss me quick’, ‘Golly Gosh’, ‘One sandwich short of a picnic’, ‘Bingo’ and ‘Full english’.

Granted it didn’t have the same vibe as last season, but hey this time around we did get chips, but I do like this more grown-up version of Markus Lupfer.

My Style: Jeans & Dotty Heels For LFW Day 5

LFW Day 5 outfit 15 My Style: Jeans & Dotty Heels For LFW Day 5 %tag

Day 5 of London Fashion Week is generally when I am full of ‘fashion flu’, done with all the bitching, too tired to string a sentence together, and so over outfit posing – this season was so much more fun than in previous years that I actually think I left my best and most comfortable look until today.

I rave a lot about Donna Ida and her own collection of jeans, IDA by Donna Ida – I have four pairs and counting and I love each one because they are so flatting, have lots of stretch and are high-waisted for the most perfect fit. These Ice Bright Vintage wash Mabel’s took a little bit of convincing for me to buy from the jean queen herself, I always shy away from such a light finish as I instantly think it will make me look fat, but I actually think these beauties make me look slim, and I never say that!!!

They were also the perfect shade of denim to pair with these cute polka dot heels from Russell & Bromley’s spring/summer 2014 collection that I kindly borrowed from The Apartment. I do love skinny jeans worn with high heels, I just don’t like stiletto height, so these were perfect and they were surprisingly so comfortable even on the cobbled street where Alex and I posed with balloons in front of a crowd of builders.

Finishing off my look is one of my favourite statement T-shirts, a cool wolf which kind of reminds me off those silver foil engraving art sets I used to get as a child. It is from Hobbs NW3 collection and I love that it can be dressed up or paired back with a chunky cardigan and biker boots.

Are you a fan of light denim? Or do you always go for darker washes as it is more flattering?

LFW Show Report: John Rocha AW14

LFW AW14 John Rocha 3 LFW Show Report: John Rocha AW14 %tag

There is always something so beautiful about a John Rocha show, I think it is because he is one of the few designers that really makes technical fashion look romantic.

For autumn/winter 2014, Rocha was inspired by the dusk dark light of Icelandic skies and produced a collection filled with his signature organic shapes with tattered lace and tiered organza dresses in a dark palette of black, blood-red, midnight greens, and grey.

The volumes of ruffles was lovely to see, the collection also included delicate touches including embroidered floral appliques, and silhouettes crafted in velvet for a luxurious winter touch. I really did love the contrast of the texture and structure of the collection.

My Style: LFW Day 4 – Matching My Samsung Note 3 To My Bag

LFW Day 4 Outfit 7 My Style: LFW Day 4 Matching My Samsung Note 3 To My Bag %tag

This fashion week I have had a new toy, the Samsung Note 3, a smartphone and a tablet all rolled into one, or as the geeks call it a phablet. On paper you think it is going to be too big, as the screen has a 5.7” display – but it is this screen that really makes it perfect for taking pictures, answering emails, as well as doing a bit of blogging on the go. Plus it did feel good to have all my apps back after using a Windows 8.1 mobile for the past few months.

When Carphone Warehouse gifted me the gorgeous red version I was chuffed, not because I didn’t really like the white and rose gold, black or plain white versions, but because this red beauty really makes a statement, especially with its leather-effect back, which really helps with grip. Plus it really does look perfect alongside the gorgeous Russell & Bromley Gilt Edge handbag that I am finding hard to let go of.

I always love having a bright coloured mobile or case, as well as accessories as my wardrobe is generally black, navy blue or dark denim, and these red accessories really work well against this black leather skirt and silky black and grey top that I wore on day four of London Fashion Week.

Am I the only crazy one that accessories my phone to my outfit and my handbag??? Probably – but this Samsung Note 3 really did look at home with the Russell & Bromley beauty.

Also big shout out to Alex for these snaps in Hyde Park in between shows and chilling out at The Apartment, it was fun being photobombed by pigeons and squirrels!!!

LFW Show Report: Temperely London AW14

LFW AW14 Temperley 6 LFW Show Report: Temperely London AW14 %tagAlice Temperely showcased a more wearable collection for autumn/winter 2014 with layered daywear separates, tailoring and suiting taking centre stage, unlike previous collections filled with ballgowns and red carpet creations.

For AW14 it is all about the Temperley London woman by day, with sexier shorter lengths to the dresses featuring ornate patterns reminiscent of tile work seen in Spanish cathedrals, and a lot of gorgeous outerwear options from quilted cropped jackets to textured Jacquard and A-line swing coats.

Even though I love the eveningwear options, which were still present with a highlight being a floor-length crystal-embellished nude evening dress, the romantic folk-inpsired separates and maxi dresses were gorgeous and something that I would love to wear.

I also loved the styling of the collection, with giant scarves, wide belts nipping in the waists, the blue eyeliner and the playful braids.
