My Wedding: A Priv Makeover

My wedding IHNY 12 My Wedding: A Priv Makeover %tagOne of the main stresses about getting married in New York, after figuring out how I was going to pack my amazing wedding dress into a tiny carry-on case, had to be who was going to do my hair and make-up. Unlike my search here in the UK, I didn’t have friends in New York who do hair and make-up, I didn’t have anyone to recommend wedding make-up artists, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to do a trial, so it would have to be do-or-die on my actual wedding day.

I was freaking about it until at least a week before I flew out until I got an invite to the launch of PRIV, an incredible beauty and wellness service at the top of an app, which was launching in London but was already huge in New York. PRIV literally offers everything from haircuts, blow drys, make-up, manicures, massages and even personal trainer sessions. Oh and did I mention it isn’t crazy expensive, we are talking £38 for a blow dry and style or a manicure with nail art, and their stylists will come to you. Super easy and I really don’t know what I would have done without them.

I was lucky, the PR pulled a few strings and got me the full monty nails, make-up and an up-do, basically a wedding makeover, and I was treated to the best that PRIV has to offer, and I was truly looked after – thank god they launched in London and came on my radar.

I had my nails done the night before, the lovely India came to my hotel suite, dealt with the moody Soho Grand lighting like a pro, and worked my vision of having blush, pink nails with a glittery silver tip with ease. I wanted something fun that would compliment my vintage wedding gown and its heavy beading, while still being girlie and romantic. I was so pleased with the result, the colour was perfect and the silver had just enough sparkle.

My Wedding PRIV nails My Wedding: A Priv Makeover %tagMy Wedding PRIV hair My Wedding: A Priv Makeover %tagWhen it came to my hair, I had a vision, I knew I wanted my fringe down, apparently this isn’t a popular wedding option, I wanted a braid, I am a little obsessed – see my Pinterest, and I wanted a chic ponytail, but I have to be honest I was worried that my look wouldn’t be bridal enough for my gown, and if I had anyone other than Michael I am not sure it would have turned out as gorgeous as it did.

I loved the contrast between the drama in the side braid, which worked perfectly with the pearl pins I picked up on eBay, and the modern-chic vibe of the ponytail. I just felt it was perfect for a fun, elopement in New York City. My worry when looking at wedding hair inspiration was that I would look old, stuffy and not myself, and I was so pleased that Michael worked his magic with my very untraditional bridal vision and produced a truly unique look.

What also made this look perfect was the fact it lasted all day, honestly there wasn’t a hair out of place when we got back after a great day, and it lasted through hours of shooting our wedding photos, most of which were outside and it lasted for champagne shenanigans and dinner. I was seriously impressed.

My Wedding PRIV makeup My Wedding: A Priv Makeover %tagFor my make-up the only thing I had shared with Mariana before she arrived was that I wanted bold eyes, as when you wear glasses you need to go bolder for it to stand-out and be noticed. Mariana did a wonderful job, she didn’t make my foundation too heavy, while still making me feel gorgeous and covered, she didn’t go crazy with the blusher, one of my biggest worries when getting my make-up done, and she made my eyes really pop.

I love that she came prepared with options, not that she needed them that she thought about adding individual lashes to work with my glasses, and that she prepped my skin to perfection so that my wedding look stayed put all-day long.

My transformation didn’t take long, the PRIV glamsquad are masters of their trade and I was super impressed with their skill, their personalities, we really did have a giggle, as well as everyone understanding what a big day it was for me, I felt like they went above and beyond what they needed to do and they certainly made me feel and look fantastic, as well as create looks that matched my vintage wedding gown.

PRIV has just launched in London, in selected areas for now but I am sure it will grow in the coming months, so why not download the app on Apple and Android, it is free, and treat yourself – why not just before a big date for a work event, or just because – trust me you will feel a million dollars afterwards.

I am really pleased with my wedding looks – do you think my vision worked with my New York wedding?

Wedding Inspiration: How To Find Your Perfect Scent

Wedding scent 5 Wedding Inspiration: How To Find Your Perfect Scent %tag

I am such a lover of fragrances, I really do love how certain smells bring back memories, so when it came to my wedding day I knew that I wanted a new scent, something special and romantic, and ideally a fragrance that would conjure up memories of my wedding day for years to come.

Quite a hard task for a scent, especially as I wanted something new and I seem to have added a lot to my collection over the years. I asked a lot of my friends what they did on their wedding day and quite a few just used their favourite scent rather than a new one, but I do love the idea of a fragrance that represents the joy, happiness and love of a wedding day.

There are lots of gorgeous options out there, from the classic Christian Dior J’adore, the fun Dolce & Gabbana Dolce, as well as the sweet Marc Jacobs Lola, and the romantic Carven Le Parfum, which is my current go-to scent. I also loved Stella McCartney, Victor and Rolf Flowerbomb, Elie Saab Le Parfum, Giorgio Armani Code, and you have to try Oscar de la Renta’s Something Blue, which can be your scent as well as your something blue.

In the end it was a hard choice but I think I have found a winner in Chloé, I just fell in love with its romantic rose scent, as well as the hint of peonies and lychee. It just has an effortless chic about it, simply yet still sexy and luxurious, and as soon as I tried it I knew it was the one. The fact that the bottle is exquisite just made it even easier to commit. I really can’t wait to wear this beautiful scent on my wedding day.

Wedding scent 7 Wedding Inspiration: How To Find Your Perfect Scent %tag

I kind of stumbled upon my wedding scent, after trying nearly ever fragrance in the store, so to make it a little easier for you I spoke to the experts at The Perfume Shop for the top tips on selecting the ultimate scent:

  • Perfume is individual, each scent is different to different people. As a conductor of our senses, everyone’s skin reacts differently to others! It is therefore important to spray the perfume on your skin rather than on a blotter and leave it to settle.
  • Everyone wants their perfume to be long-lasting and whilst EDP last longer on the skin than EDT, consider layering with body lines such as lotions and shower gels.
  • EDP gives a stronger scent so is perfect for evening occasions whilst an EDT is great for everyday use where it will be sprayed multiple times throughout the day.
  • There are other pulse points than just your wrists and neck. Try spraying behind the knees, the ears or in the hollow of your arms.
  • As winter approaches it is important to remember that scents vary from season to season. Scent does not usually last as long in cooler months as the skin is not as hydrated. Opt for a heavier scent during the winter.

Good luck on finding your wedding scent and leave me a message below with what you went for.

I can’t believe I get married in 4 days!!!

Wedding Inspiration: 5 Wedding-Worthy Braids

My braid Wedding Inspiration: 5 Wedding Worthy Braids %tagMy wedding is less than 3 months away, the venue is all sorted, so are the dresses, the shoes, the food, and generally most of the big stuff, which means now I am focused on finding the perfect wedding-worthy hair-do to go with my fabulous dress.

I have a great hairdresser in Carol at Toni & Guy in Cambridge who has been trying out new things with my hair each time I go and get my hair cut. We’ve tried a crown of braids, relaxed curls, and this cute side braid pictured above. I have liked them all, but they aren’t quite right, the only thing I am certain of is that I want braids, I don’t know why I just love that they are romantic and princess-like, and seriously what more could you want on your wedding.

It is because of my obsession of braids and the search for the perfect wedding style that I now have a Pinterest board dedicated to them and I am addicted to going through one-million strong Instagram account @InstaBraid, which you can probably guess is all about braids.

They’ve posted nearly 2,000 times so it is hard to choose just five wedding-worthy styles, but I think you will agree all these beautiful braids would look amazing on a bride. I think I am going to need a few more hair styling sessions with my hairdresser before I can commit to the perfect braid.

Do you like to see brides rocking braids on their wedding day?

Beauty Bytes: Benefit Dream Screen

benefit dream screen Beauty Bytes: Benefit Dream Screen %tag

I have only just discovered Benefit’s incredible skincare range, I use their make-up and I even own a number of their fragrances, but when I was last in the Carnaby store I had to ask myself where they had been hiding this skincare line.

So if like me and you have been living in a beauty-free hole and are on the look out for great sun protection for your face that doesn’t make you too shiny, doesn’t leave that horrible sticky residue, and actually plays well with your foundation, then you need to give Benefit’s Dream Screen a go.

OK, so it is a little pricey, £25 for 45ml bottle, but trust me you will love this lightweight, oil free SPF 45, as not only does it go onto your skin like a dream, sorry couldn’t resist, I also loved how it both mattified and moisturised my skin. Even though it is small, a little really does go and a long way, and I love that it is kind of like a primer, which in my eyes is always a bonus, plus the small bottle makes it perfect to pop into your handbag.

If it wasn’t enough that it feels good on the skin – I really do just love pretty packaging and the mint green bottle complete with a cork lid is adorable!!!

Have you tried Benefit Dream Screen? What did you think?

Beauty Bytes: YSL Couture Palette

YSL beauty eye palette Beauty Bytes: YSL Couture Palette %tag

I find beauty a challenge, I love beauty products and seem to stock up on the latest trend and ones with pretty packaging, but I am not very good at doing my own make-up other than the basics, so when Yves Saint Laurent invited me to have a one-to-one make-up masterclass with the amazing Fred Letailleur, the man behind Cara Delevigne’s latest YSL beauty ads, I jumped at the chance.

The makeover was all about the eyes to celebrate the launch of YSL’s new Couture Palettes, a collection of eight different eyeshadow palettes, each inspired by a timeless fashion collection from the house of YSL – ranging from browns, classic black and grey, as well as vibrant greens and purples. What I love about this product, other than the luxurious gold packaging, is that it is really geared to allow anyone, even me, to put together a great eye make-up look with its five complementary hues including a base and highlighter colour to sculpt and illuminate the eye, which Fred said was very important.

YSL beauty makeover 3 Beauty Bytes: YSL Couture Palette %tag

Fred used four key products in the eye make-up lesson – the iconic Touche Éclat highlighter pen, which he used to hide my dark circles under my eyes as well as highlight the brow bone, the Baby Doll mascara, which I love as it made my lashes super thick, as well as a black eye pencil to create dramatic couture-style eyes. He was really speedy, which gives me hope that when I do it myself it won’t take me hours, and I love that each palette comes with a full tutorial on how to recreate the look of the ads.

I always love having my eyes done, when you wear glasses it is nice to show off what’s underneath instead of hiding the eyes away and I really loved how vibrant the colours looked and how easily they blended together. The look is definitely something I will be attempting to recreate and I will be utilising the new YSL Eye Style platform that features lots of videos and how-to-guides created by Fred, I can’t wait to try the how to achieve the perfect cat-flick.

As well as being a hub of beauty secrets, the YSL Eye Style platform is also asking readers to upload a shot of their eye make up for the chance to win prizes each month from June to August, then one overall winner will win a personal masterclass with Fred, a trip to London, and a hamper containing £500 of YSL make-up. So don’t forget to upload your Eye Style and share on social media with the hashtag #YSLEyeStyle.

Cannes 2014: Lara Stone Channels Barbie In Calvin Klein Collection

Lara stone lorealparis 2 Cannes 2014: Lara Stone Channels Barbie In Calvin Klein Collection %tag

Who: Model Lara Stone

Where: At “The Search” premiere during the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival in France

Wearing: A custom fuchsia cross-strap silk crepe Calvin Klein Collection gown, teamed with a diamond bracelet and her signature tousled waves

Verdict: Now that is how channel Barbie!!! I am a huge fan of hot pink on the red carpet, not just because I am a huge Barbie fan, OK a lot because of that, but I think a lot of it is to do with the clash of colours. When I see hot pink at Cannes it used to make me think of Diane Kruger in that incredible Jason Wu gown, but I think that honour will definitely have to be Lara Stone’s after seeing her in this gorgeous Calvin Klein Collection gown.

I am a huge fan of designer Francisco Costa’s Calvin Klein Collection gowns, he really knows how to make minimal a statement with the use of colour and sporty detailing, I just love the cross-strap at the neckline as well as the colour of this dress. You can really tell that this gown was made for the L’Oreal ambassador as it hugs her body beautifully.

It is for looks like this that I am always so pleased that Cannes always attracts all the top models to the red carpet.

It isn’t just her outfit that is breathtaking the model’s hair and make-up has never looked so good before, her skin looks absolutely flawless – I really have to try out L’Oreal Paris’ Nude Magique Blur Cream. For a full look at the products L’Oreal Paris used to create Lara’s look see below.

What do you think of Lara’s ode to Barbie?
