It’s unheard of to say that every single dress at an award ceremony red carpet will go down in history, but that’s what happened at the Golden Globes 2018, as everyone who graced the red carpet wore black in solidarity with the Time’s Up initiative to combat systemic sexual harassment, abuse and discrimination across all industries.
The Time’s Up #WhyWeWearBlack movement launched at the beginning of the year when more than 300 women who work in film, television and theatre signing an open letter of solidarity in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal. They called on Hollywood to wear black to highlight the issues as well as to raise money for the Time’s Up legal defense fund that has already raised more than 15 million dollars to aid those who have experienced sexual harassment or assault in the workplace.
On paper, I was worried that it would be a somber affair, even slightly boring, but instead, it really showed the talent of fashion designers and the power of a great stylist, to still capture the personality and style of the star while sticking to the black dress code and there really were some gorgeous looks.
My Favourite Golden Globes 2018 Looks
No surprise there hey, you guys know I’m a little obsessed with Diane Kruger and she really did look stunning in this ethereal custom Prada gown, the exquisitely detailing of the cape and the crystal embellishments make this my standout look from the Golden Globes 2018.
I really love everything from the cape, seriously gorgeous, and flowed perfectly, to the criss-cross halter front to the intricate beading and embellishments. This gown must have taken hours to make and was a clever take on the all-black dress code as the sheer fabrics and cape really added an extra layer to the gown.
Finishing up her look were beautiful Fred Leighton rose cut diamond earrings and a Judith Leiber silver faceted resin clutch.
Dakota Johnson really looked incredible on Sunday night, this Gucci velvet black gown from the pre-autumn/winter 2018 collection is a gorgeous dress. The shape of the gown is gorgeous and feminine, and while it may look simple, the back detailing with crystal embroideries throughout the train really makes this one of my favourites of the night. Also, that crystal buckle is just exquisite.
Nicole Kidman always makes the right fashion choices on the red carpet no matter the dress code and this custom made outfit from the upcoming Givenchy Haute Couture spring/summer 2018 collection, designed by Clare Waight Keller is incredible. Just looked at the lace detailing, up close it really did twinkle as it is embellished with tiny crystals. It really does ooze drama and elegance and so worthy of a best actress.
I also love the actresses jewellery Art Deco bracelet, earrings and diamond rings from Fred Leighton and her immaculate hair and make-up.
One of the most interesting looks had to be this futuristic one-sleeve Atelier Versace gown featuring angular Swarovski silver crystal mesh accents as worn by Saoirse Ronan. It was bold and modern, while also being edgy and I loved it. The look also worked beautifully with her Cartier jewels especially those sapphire and diamond earrings. Simply perfection and I can’t wait to see more of her throughout the 2018 award season.I feel like my final favourite of the 2018 Golden Globes might be a little like marmite, some will love it others not so much, but I am most certainly crushing over how incredible Kate Hudson looks in this very sexy Valentino Couture by Pierpaolo Piccioli black number. This picture right here is my 2018 gym goal!!!
I love the Valentino gown detailing, the chiffon teamed with the honeycomb embroidery really makes this black dress standout from others, plus that incredibly plunging neckline helps, highlighted by Harry Winston’s Secret Wonder Diamond, Sapphire and Aquamarine Pendant weighing 30.01 carats. Serious bling that didn’t stop there as she is also wearing a pair of Vintage 1969 Winston Cluster Diamond Earrings weighing 23.12 carats, and a 20.80-carat Radiant-Cut Yellow Diamond Ring.
Which black dresses were your favourite at the 2018 Golden Globes?
