The Golden Globes kicked off the award season last week and this weekend was the Critics’ Choice Awards turn, and for me, the red carpet was a battle of who wore burgundy better between – Rachel McAdams in Elie Saab and Krysten Ritter in Zuhair Murad.
Yep I’ve called these gowns burgundy, I know I could have been all fussy and gone with garnet, oxblood or even maroon, but you know what I like the word burgundy, as well as seeing the dark moody hue on the red carpet, which really is a rarity, so seeing it twice in one night made me take notice. It really is a great colour when teamed with embellishments and for me, these two beautiful gowns were the standouts from a fairly boring red carpet.
It’s hard to choose which one is my favourite. I love the sexiness of Rachel McAdams in this Elie Saab haute couture autumn/winter 2016 gown. The neckline is modern and I really do like the knitted chainmail effect of the sheer panelled gown, now this is a naked dress trend that I could get behind, it’s sexy without being trashy, plus I adore the chain straps and the belt. I also think Rachel wins hands-down when it comes to hair and make-up, I’m loving her messy blonde bob and as well as that vibrant pop of red on her lips. Simply stunning.
However, look at how Krysten Ritter’s Zuhair Murad couture autumn/winter 2016 gown just sparkles from the tone-on-tone crystal embroidery. I also adore the deep plunging neckline, adds a sexy touch to an elegant dress, and I think it is safe to say that plunging necklines are going to be a trend we see through this award season. But what wins me over regarding this burgundy look has to be the placement of the crystal embellishments around the waist, makes this dress super flattering on her, and the pleated skirt makes it whimsical despite the dark hue. Oh, and I nearly forgot her H. Stern earrings are amazing.
I think when it comes to the gowns it’s a tie, I love them both, but there has to be a winner and I think I prefer Rachel’s hair and make-up, that red lipstick is perfect with her messy locks, for me, it totally adds to the sexiness of the burgundy gown.
Who wore burgundy better – Rachel or Krysten?
