Colourful Winter Beach Style

One of the best things about moving to our forever house in Kent is the fact we are so close to the beach. Even on a cold, winter day like this, where the mist rolled in and made visibility poor, there’s a magic and calmness that just makes everything better. There is, however, a challenge though to loving the beach in winter, what to wear. I’m known for loving winter layers and country casuals, but sometimes you just want to wear something fun, yet still warm – so let me present you with my go-to colourful winter beach style.

My Winter Beach Style Guide

Colour Pop

First up, opt for colour, whether that’s a bright pink coat, a colour-pop scarf, just something to make you think of summer, I always feel that it is needed when visiting the seaside. For me, a bright coloured coat is the starting point of my winter beach style, and this oversized pink beauty from Missguided has definitely been my go-to coat this winter. The pastel hue also makes it great for clashing with other bright colours, try it with red or purple, or even other pastel shades like blue.

All About Accessories

So, yes a coat is important to stay warm on the beach in winter, even on a calm, sunny day the chill can be real, but you can help yourself out with great accessories. In this look it’s all about the oversized scarf, I love feeling cosy and this blue ombre scarf from Primark, which FYI was less than £5, is perfect for that. It is super soft and super thick and trust me will keep you lovely and warm. I also love that when teamed with an oversized coat they kind of balance each other out so they aren’t OTT big.

Dependant on the weather, how cold it is, I then normally opt for a bobble hat, my go-to during winter, and it’s another great way of adding a pop of colour to my look. However, with this look I just felt with the size of the coat and scarf a hat would have been a step too far, you wouldn’t have been able to recognise me!!! You can also add gloves, for me, this is the piece of winter fashion I can’t seem to get right as most gloves are kind of boring and I also have a habit of losing just one.

Denim

I always say, if in doubt, wear denim. It really is a go with anything kind of piece and come on don’t we all have tons of jeans in our wardrobes. For winter beach style, I love opting for a lighter wash, you know the ones you wear during sunnier months, these Donna Ida beauties are the perfect hue with this pink coat and blue scarf, and as they are designer they are slightly thicker so keep me nice and warm.

Layers

All winter fashion, whether that is to the beach or not, is all about layering, especially when you are off exploring, I’m always getting too hot and then freezing within minutes, so opt for layers, so you can take off, or add on as needed. For me, this is helped by investing in heat-tech underlayers, I love ski thermals as they are super warm, thin and sit close to the body so they fit under most T-shirts. I also love fleece lined sweatshirts, rollneck knits and cosy cardigans.

Finishing Touches

Add a personal touch to your look. This isn’t just for winter beach style, all outfits. There is a pressure I think lately to be very Instagram-uniformed, everyone is wearing the same trainers and carrying the same bag, but remember you can always add your own style to any outfit. My personal touch is with the bag, I love changing up my bags, and I love everything Cambridge Satchel Company bag and this mini Poppy is perfect for the beach, a bag is a chance to add a pop of colour, a neutral tone or even a cool print to a look.

There is also another personal touch to this look, I’ve given my trainers an update with Iphoria sneaker patches. I love anything that refreshes a piece in my wardrobe and these patches are super cute and easy to use. All you have to do is lace them on. It is as simple as that. I love these smiley ones but there are loads available from rainbows to hearts, lips and even flowers – just a cute idea to change up your look.
