Christmas Florals With The Real Flower Company

Christmas Florals With The Real Flower Company

Moving into this beautiful old house made me know instantly I wanted to do Christmas a little different this year, not only because both of our families are coming, yep the ‘Forever House’ is going to be a full house, but also because I’ve always dreamed of a creating more floral spreads as I really love adding flowers everywhere, but I always worry how to at Christmas, and always just opt for the poinsettia. So, this year I reached out to the floral masters at The Real Flower Company for some tips and tricks on how to make dress my house this festive season with flowers.

“A door wreath is imperative for welcoming anybody to the house at Christmas. I also like to dress my house with lots of seasonal foliage from the garden, our English flower farm and foraged from the hedgerows. Bulbs such as amaryllis and lilies are great for touches of colour and last wonderfully”- Rosebie Morton, The Real Flower Company.

What I love about The Real Flower Company’s Christmas collection is that it isn’t just the traditional red that you normally see during the holidays, there’s an elegance and vintage feel about the floral wreaths and bouquets, which really suits this house, and what I wanted to achieve. I love red, don’t get me wrong, but it can be so overdone at this time of year, which is why the Woodland Antique collection is so refreshing and inviting, filled with scented antique, blush pink roses and woodland inspired foliage of thistles, pussy willow, and birch twigs.

Seriously, how beautiful does this look, and it still looks festive thanks to the foliage alongside the delicate flowers, which I wish you guys could smell as it really is divine, and I love that this will be the first thing my guests smell and see when they enter the house.

The first thing I noticed was the quality and care that went into making it, Rosebie told me it takes 30 -45 minutes for her florists to put something like this together, I’d love to try and make my own next year.

Seeing how beautiful the wreath is I have to be honest I was a little worried about how to maintain it through to Christmas, so I asked Rosebie what her must-have tips are:

  • Leave decorating with flowers and foliage to a couple of weeks before Christmas
  • Turn the heating down and use a water mister
  • Where possible keep fresh flowers and foliage away from radiators, fireplaces and sunny windowsills

Need inspiration on which Christmas wreath to go for from The Real Flower Company’s collection?

I love herbs and berries so this year I’ll be hanging our Berry, Herb and Foliage door wreath on my door. It’s hard to pick a favourite but I love the rich berry tones of our Christmas posy and Antique and Plum flower tube arrangement – Rosebie Morton

One Christmas flower wreath, two ways

Thinking that this is too beautiful to just be outside, well, this wreath can also be a table decoration, so I thought I’d give you a sneak previous of my elegant Christmas table plans. I’m keeping it quite minimal and for me not as a traditionally festive, I really want the floral display with a column candle as the centrepiece, and I love how the Paul Richard, the pale pink rose, and the Kenyan Sweet antike rose really complement my vintage dinner set. Also, having a table wreath means that it is low, so you’ll be able to see your family around the table.

For a few festive touches, I’ve added Christmas tree and stars around the table, with each place setting having a wooden decoration. I picked these up in TK Maxx, I love that place for quirky touches to add to my dinner table, and I love how they work with the marble tree and star, which kind of look like coaster but are actually decorations but they are so heavy no tree would ever take them!!!

I also have a bouquet made up in the same Woodland Antique theme as the wreath to add more colour to the table. I’ve taken out a few of the flowers into little vases to just create a gorgeous train of foliage down the centre of the table, which is highlighted by a few twigs snipped off the bottom of our Christmas tree. The whole set up with the modern Sophie Conran cutlery and the exquisite Waterford crystal glasses just makes for a beautiful, fresh and elegant Christmas table. All it needs is a turkey.

One of the things I love about decadent houses at Christmas, you know the ones I mean, those National Trust houses, is always the incredible fireplaces, and this year I finally have not one, but two to decorate, so I asked Rosebie how to use fresh foliage to create a beautiful festive display.

Don’t start too early but foraging for greenery is a wonderful way to create a striking fireplace display. Yew, box and fir give a traditional feel. I also love using, berried ivy, silvery eucalyptus and Viburnum Tinus from my garden as it’s rich dark foliage always looks strikingly festive. Start in the centre, using the largest pieces of foliage first, trailing ivy works well as a base. Work out to each side, criss crossing the stems. Layer in rosehips and berries to add colour and texture and fill in the gaps

I promise as soon as I finish doing my fireplaces I will share on Instagram.

Are you loving this gorgeous flower wreath as much as me?
