As a glasses wearer, I became pretty tired of poor service, uninteresting frames, and overpriced lenses. I remember the first time I found out I needed glasses and had to pick a pair out, I nearly cried as they were all so horrible, unflattering, and in boring black and garishly thick frames. I hated them so much, I didn’t wear them when I needed to, well except when I was driving, because I hated how I looked in them. Then I discovered cool, fun, vintage-style slightly oversized frames that came in different colours, finishes and lightweight styles, from online-only glasses sellers. It was amazing I got to select a couple of pairs and got them sent out to try on at home and then selected the ones I liked and then they arrived in less than 2 weeks and cost me less than £100. It was amazing. It was such a difference from being quoted nearly £400 for a pair of glasses at a well known high street optician that would take close to a month to be ready, I nearly fell off the chair.
So, for me online has been the only option, I don’t even look on the high street, well, that was until I discovered this cool brand Ollie Quinn, which offers amazing frames, lenses and the coating for £98, either online or in-store at one of their boutiques across London, Leeds, Bristol or Brighton, and it really does make a refreshing change. First of all, I forgot how fun it was to try of different specs, the more wacky the better, to have a laugh and a giggle why trying on glasses, while also falling in love with a beautiful blue marble-effect pair that I didn’t want to take off.
This beautiful pair of Ollie Quinn specs is called the ‘Hutton’ (c/o), apparently the wordsmith of specs, and the person who wears them “works with words to bring big ideas to life and craft a story that comes straight from the wildest of imaginations”, I swear I didn’t know that before I fell in love with them, but I love them even more now that’s the case.
As you know, I do love a bold, oversized frame, I just think this shape is flattering to me, but I do like a different colour, and the ‘Hutton’ comes in four different colours – from a tortoiseshell to a nude finish and even black, but it was the blue ‘dancing ocean’ ones that really sold it to me. The blue finish just makes these glasses so perfect for the summer and a little different, but also they’ll go with my mainly denim wardrobe.
I have to be honest I was so impressed with the frames on offer, the super speedy service, they said it would be two weeks more like 5 days to come in, the quick and friendly eye test and the all-in for £98 price tag that I’m totally eyeing up a pair of sunnies to see in the summer.
Have you discovered the beauty of Ollie Quinn glasses?
**Thanks Ollie Quinn for having me and letting me pick out a pair of specs**
