Denim, especially jeans have always been a big part of my wardrobe, and to be honest I don’t see that changing anytime soon, but I have noticed over the years how I seem to rotate between styles. Once upon a time, you couldn’t get me out of flares, I loved them, so much so, I remember making a pair even bigger while at university that included a whole lot of yellow fabric and cute stars embellished up the side, I was obsessed with them. Then came the time of the cropped jeans, a whole summer dedicated to the shorter style. Then like everyone else I was seduced by the spray-on skinny jeans, hey, I’m still a lover of these. Then there was the Donna Ida effect, all about high-waisted, and I couldn’t have been the only one rejoicing at getting rid of all those bum crack jeans. This year it seems I can’t stop buying straight-leg jeans, you know the kind that are ultra-stiff, even a little retro-inspired, and yes flattering to all.
Yep, I’m all about the mom jeans, high-waist, straight-leg cut, whether that’s black, vintage blue, or distressed grey, I like to share the love when it comes to the washes of my jeans. For me lately, it has been about comfort, I love the way these mom jeans sit, I used to think the shape wasn’t flattering, but I’m embracing comfort when in turn makes me more confident in what I’m wearing, which instantly makes things more flattering. If you know what I mean.
I also love that mom jeans have a little kick at the hem, you can wear them a little short like me and have some funky tights or knee-highs showing, or pair with a fierce heel for a more dressed up look or you can opt for a longer length and do an OTT turn-up, I just love that they make casual looks more fun. Plus, they really do work with a range of footwear, trainers, like I’ve styled here, ankle boots, wedges come summer, strappy heels on a night out, or how about the on-trend mule. So many comfortable options and come on isn’t that what we all want from a casual look?
