Branding looks on the red carpet as best dressed is all about opinion and I know that at least one of my picks from the SAG Awards 2017 will be met with gasps, especially as it has hit most of the worst dressed lists, but you know what, I’m a lover of over-the-top, and Nicole Kidman for me in this parrot embellished Gucci beauty was one of my wow moments from the red carpet. You know what it is, the colour, that emerald green is perfect on Nicole, and if anyone can pull off this multicoloured feather and beaded parrot embroidered sleeves and skirt with tulle ruffles by Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele it’s the Oscar-winning actress.
SAG Awards 2017 Best Dressed
From OTT glamour to prim, proper and whimsical is Claire Foy in this stunning Valentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli gown, who won the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a drama series for her role as Queen Elizabeth on The Crown. I’m kind of a little obsessed with this look as it is gorgeous on so many levels, I love the sheer overall revealing a plunging pink slip dress, as well as the cute collar detail, and the embroidery is just so exquisite. This dress is full of personality, charm and character and I’m so pleased it got to grace the red carpet. For me, this is a look that Emma Stone should be wearing as she was one of the disappointments of the SAG Awards 2017 red carpet.
So, I’m a contradiction of what I love, I do adore over-the-top, but there’s also a place for simple, elegant and just beautiful, and this is what Kirsten Dunst gave us on the SAG Awards 2017 red carpet in this corseted, lace ruffled Dior gown. This dress designed by Dior’s first female creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri shows that simple doesn’t have to be boring, the details of the crystal-embellished straps, the lingerie-inspired bustier neckline, and the feminine ruffle layers are so beautifully in tune and makes this one of Kirsten’s best dressed looks for me. It’s also stepped up a notch with the layered Fred Leighton necklaces, her beachy waves, and that bold lip.
Evan Rachel Wood‘s once again wore a custom Altuzarra suit, this time a gorgeous midnight navy velvet beauty that was tailored to perfection and had the most beautiful detail at the back where it was held together with a delicate gold chain, which just added a feminine, sexiness to the tuxedo jacket. I also love her jewellery, those Tiffany mixed-cut diamond earrings are just so perfect, and the final touch is her bold red lips. Love this look.
I myself felt pressure a lot of the times to dress and look a certain way, so I felt you know, I’m just going to go another way and reach out to a girl possibly like me. So that’s what I’m going for this year,” the Westworld actress said to E! News.
When it’s your first SAG Awards red carpet and you come in one of the most dramatic dresses you need to be applauded and I love with Annalise Basso, who plays Vespyr in the drama Captain Fantastic, in this incredible Bibhu Mohapatra gown. Everything about this look works, the colour, the sheer chiffon cape-style sleeves, the crossover neckline and the beautiful dragonfly embroidery. But this gown wouldn’t have been as striking if the young actresses hadn’t work it, seeing the motion in the sheer sleeves/cape/train **delete as appropriate as I’m not sure what you would call it**, is what made this look a winner for me. Also, quick high fives to her glam squad as her swept back hair and make-up was perfection, as were those Amrapali diamond and spinel chandelier earrings.
SAG Awards 2017 Top Trend – Stripes
There were a number of key trends spotted on the SAG Awards 2017 red carpet, we saw florals as seen on Claire Foy, Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen, and even Kate Hudson in Dior was spotted with a large floral corsage on her hip, then there were white numbers, my favourite being Kirsten Dunst in Dior, however, Brie Larson also went for simple and chic in a custom Jason Wu, while Natalie Portman went for a fluted sleeve Dior gown and actress Meryl Streep looked fabulously in Valentino.
For me though the biggest and boldest trend was all the stripes from Naomie Harris in a striking Lanvin jumpsuit to Michelle Williams in a stripy metallic Louis Vuitton number. However, the three that really impressed had to be Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik in a custom Miri Couture gown, I know many of you are going to disagree with me but I think she nailed this multi-coloured dress. While Downton Abbey star Michelle Dockery went for a colourful Elie Saab dress from the spring/summer 2017 collection, I love the colours and the neckline. But my favourite stripy number had to be Yara Shahid in this bright Naeem Khan gown, which is so perfect on the 16-year-old star from the colour to the peak-a-boo panelling. This is so much fun and cute.
