Hands up who isn’t quite ready for this year’s award season? I totally forgot this year, I really thought I had another week to prepare, scout out the dresses I want to see, binge watch the movies, have a look back at last year, but, instead, I ended up doing a lot of work at the last minute. I kind of feel like the celebs on the red carpet of the Golden Globes 2017 were feeling like it was a little too soon as well as overall it was quite an underwhelming display, don’t get me wrong, lots of gorgeous, exquisite gowns, but nothing really wowed, and I’m kind of hoping they are gearing up for the rest of award season.
While I might not have been wowed I was super pleased to see that my list wasn’t filled with the usual suspects, well not entirely, I do love Emma Stone and Blake Lively a lot, but nice to see Lily Collins, Brie Larson and Evan Rachel Wood dominating the red carpet last night for me.
Golden Globes 2017 – Best Dressed
Emma Stone in Valentino Haute Couture
There’s always something so effortless about Emma Stone, which is probably why I always love her red carpet style, and she looked adorable in this custom Valentino Haute Couture gown designed by creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli. Of course, with her being nominated, and winning for her role in La La Land the dress had a star print as homage to her character and I kind of love that. I also loved her answer to Ryan Seacrest when he asked about her dress, she simply said: “Well, it’s pink and there are stars on it.” Can’t argue with that!!!
Blake Lively in Atelier Versace
With her husband Ryan Reynolds nominated, he sadly lost out to Ryan Gosling, I was kind of hoping for a Blake Lively appearance, and she didn’t wow, but did look gorgeous in this custom-made Atelier Versace gown. The first thing I thought of though when I saw it was that she’d stole the dress from Angelina Jolie, can’t you just imagine her wearing this. But, back to the dress, I loved all the gold chain-mail detailing along the neck and pockets, which were encrusted with Swarovski crystals, apparently it took 300 hours to make the dress.
Evan Rachel Wood in Altuzarra
You guys already know by now I love women in suits, especially on the red carpet, I have a geeky Pinterest board dedicated to them and Evan Rachel Wood in this incredible custom Altuzarra tuxedo is definitely being added. I love red carpet gowns, but come on this look just shows that you don’t have to wear a dress to be hot as hell. I love this look. It is tailored to perfection, I love the slightly flared trouser leg, the longer line tuxedo jacket and I’m obsessed with the white tie detail. Apparently, the look was a tribute to her icons Marlene Dietrich and David Bowie, who would have been 70 on January 8.
Commenting on her look, she said: “I’ve been nominated three times. I’ve worn a dress every single time and I love dresses. I’m not trying to protest dresses but I wanted to make sure young girls and women know that it’s not a requirement.” Love this!
Brie Larson in Rodarte
I love statement gowns, but I also have a soft spot for timeless beauty, and this striking red custom Rodarte dress worn by Brie Larson is just beautiful. OK, some people might say boring, could have done better, but it’s the fit, the subtle crystal embellished detailing around the neckline, and the colour that just makes this one great award season red carpet dress. I also love that she channeled her timeless look through with her old Hollywood-style hair and make-up.
Lily Collins in Zuhair Murad
Without a doubt I will always find a Princess moment on the red carpet that I adore, this is it, how adorable does Lily Collins look in this candy floss pink Zuhair Murad couture creation. First off, anyone wearing this shade of pink, apparently officially called rosewood pink, already gets my vote, so dreamy, then add all the exquisitely placed beaded embroidery and that open back and you really have me swooning. I also love that she kept the Princess vibes going all the way up to her gorgeous up-do. Love it.
So who was your favourite on the red carpet at the Golden Globes 2017?
