AW16 Trend Alert: Velvet Crush

Velvet, Trend Alert, AW16 Trend, Fashion, Shopping, Fashionista Barbie, Velvet Boots

If there’s one fabric that is a must-have trend that you have to try for autumn/winter it has to be velvet. Soft, crushed, bright, shocking, and oh so tactile, velvet really is having a moment and I’m a little obsessed. No longer the fabric of dark, romantic, gothic clothes, the likes of Valentino and Roksanda have made it cool again to wear it during the day, and you might have noticed but the high street has gone wild. You’ll find that this strokable fabric has been used in everything from trousers to thigh-high boots, delicate camis, fun bomber jackets, as well as cute bags. I basically want it all.

Don’t get me wrong, Velvet is a statement trend, and possible not for everyone, but I’ve picked out pieces that you are going to love to wear, from the coolest boots, I have both the Next embossed black beauties as well as the dreamy blue Ego Shoes, which I adore as they have cool 70s vibes, to all the beautiful jewel tones you are going to want, as well as a sexy luxurious suit. Trust me, whether you just want a touch of velvet, or want to go full-on you are going to fall in love with at least one piece, if not all of them.

Velvet Crush – My Picks

Top Image. Next – Velvet Block Heel Boots, £45 // 1. Ego Shoes – Osha Velvet Blue Ankle Boots, £39.99 // 2. Monki – Velvet Bomber Jacket, £30 // 3. Public Desire – Marlo Buckle High Heels in Bordeaux Velvet, £29.99 // 4. ASOS – Cold Shoulder Velvet Pleated Midi Dress, £40 // 5. ASOS – Top with Ruffle in Velvet, £30 // 6. Boden – Velvet Emilia Blazer, £129 and matching Richmond Velvet Trousers, £79.50 // 7. Urban Outfitters – Velvet Mini Backpack, £36 // 8. Boohoo – Velvet Midi Skirt, £22 //

As I said, the boots are already in my wardrobe, and I promise they will make an appearance in up-coming style posts soon, but saying that I also really want these gorgeous jewel-toned block sandals, the colour is divine, and I adore this buckle ankle strap shape, plus, if this bordeaux hue isn’t your thing the Marlo also comes in navy and black. And the fact that they come in at under £30 you might want all three!!!

After making a statement, then this beautifully cut plush velvet suit from Boden is a must, isn’t it beautiful. I have my eye on it in navy, it also comes in dark burgundy and black, I just need to pluck up some coverage to rock it. If like me you’re not sure you could do the coordinated set, why not just opt for the blazer, this elegant single-button will dress up your favourite pair of jeans or even look great over a festive outfit come the party season. I also love that it has a slightly longer shape than most other velvet blazers I’ve seen so you could also wear it with leather leggings.

When it comes to velvet you are always going to get great jewel tones, my favourite has to be this stunning green Asos dress, not only is the colour perfection, it also has two of my other obsessions, pleats and open shoulders, and I like the £40 price tag. This beauty will be perfect for the festive season.

Finally, as I said earlier velvet isn’t just for the evening, I have some great daywear pieces including this gorgeous bargain of a pleated skirt from Boohoo. Just £22, it feels amazing, I also might have already bought this piece as well, and it has a great shape and length. I can imagine this being one of my favourite pieces this winter. A close second will probably be this Asos pink top, the ruffle, another obsession of mine, is just so pretty. I love that you can pair with jeans and it adds a touch of luxury to the look. Also, don’t you think it would look great under this gorgeous black bomber from Monki

Want to just ease your way into this trend? Well, you have to go with this strokable backpack from Urban Outfitters. I love it in the gold hue, but after something a little more traditional it also comes in maroon and black. It is such a cute size.

As I said, I totally want it all – what’s on your velvet wishlist?
