Do you ever look scour Instagram looking for great foodie recommendations? Or is that just me. One of the biggest hits I’ve seen on my feed this summer has been Farm Girl Cafe on Portobello Road, partial due to its great pink table in the sunshine which coordinates perfectly with its dreamy rose latte and berry pancakes. There’s more to this cafe spot than just it’s beautiful aesthetics though, it’s laidback, healthy Aussie attitude is the perfect place to have a lazy long lunch with friends, well that’s if you can snag a table.
Working a breakfast/brunch menu all-day long, Farm Girl cafe leaves you a little spoilt for choice, do you go for the avocado on toast, the yummy and Instagram porn-worthy açai bowl, or go for the sweet goodness of homemade buckwheat mix pancakes served with amber maple syrup, fresh berries and coconut shavings. Seriously it all looks good, so much so I had to turn the waiter away three times as I couldn’t decide, and I was getting too distracted by everyone’s meals around me.
In the end, I opted for the avocado on toast, I was intrigued by the strawberries, which can I add was an amazing combination that I’m going to have to repeat at home, I really liked the added sweetness with the smooth avocado. Plus, I had to keep with the matchy-matchy theme and as I have a matcha tea obsession I had to, of course, go for an all-green look!!!
I did, however, have a little food envy when Sylvia’s pancakes came out, just look at the size of that portion, insane, oh and they taste as good, if not better than they look. I think she just decided to stick with the pink theme with that rose latte, which she said was amazing, if not a little different. If the presentation is enough of a draw to get you in the door, the menu and the quality of the food will keep you coming back.
The extensive menu will keep you returning, I have my eye on the Farm Girl porridge made with millet flakes and chia seeds, sprinkled with an omega mix and amber maple syrup, oh and you can add avocado if you are feeling a little adventurous. They also do the best superfood smoothies, according to a friend of mine, plus they have a thing with coconuts, I think everything is cooked in coconut oil to make it healthier or something, they’ve even renamed the BLT to the coconut BLT.
In the summer try for a seat outside, it is super cute, even better if you can grab one of the pink ‘instagrammable’ tables, but inside is just as pretty, oh and if you need more of a reason to head to Farm Girl Cafe they also have a resident French bulldog.
