Twirling Around Palais Garnier

When I think of Paris I can only remember the good memories, to be honest, I don’t think there have been any bad moments, but it’s a city close to my heart that I always seem to have so much fun. I just love wandering the city, rediscovering my favourite places, as well as being in awe at the incredible architecture, because I think we can all agree it is definitely one of the best cities in the world for that. Each visit I also always find a new gem to obsessed about, fall in love and generally smile constantly about, this trip had to be my visit to the Palais Garnier, you know the opera house used as the setting for Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera.

I’ve admired Palais Garnier from afar, always wondering whether someone actually climbs onto the roof to buff and polish the gold statues that shine so brightly, but I never knew that you could go inside, well unless you were off to the opera. If you are planning a visit to Paris definitely add this to your list of things to do as it was only 11 Euros to go around. There are tour guides and audio tours, of course, but for me, I always find wandering around, getting a little lost, jotting down notes to research pieces later, and going at my own pace the way to go.

This place is huge, as you would probably expect from a 1,979-seat opera house, so give yourself a couple of hours, as there are points where you just need to sit, take it all in, and people watch, another favourite thing to do, everyone is just so chic in Paris. As I was going round all I could think about were all the glamourous Parisians attending the opera, wearing gorgeous gowns and tuxedos, navigating their way up the grand double staircase to their seats, admiring the people sat in the boxes. I bet it is seriously amazing to see an opera here, and something that I’ve added to my bucket list, I think my first opera has to be in Paris.

Paris Highlight: Palais Garnier

There are a lot of highlights to see, the horseshoe-shaped “French” auditorium is incredible, don’t forget to look up as the ceiling is amazing painted by Marc Chagall, which apparently pays tribute to the composers Mozart, Wagner, Mussorgsky, Berlioz and Ravel, as well as to famous actors and dancers, well that’s what my father-in-law told me from his audio guide. Be in awe at the divine gallery room lined in gold with gorgeous chandeliers, as well as see the library, showcasing centuries of the theatre’s history, including a delicate and detailed look at how sets come together. Seriously, there is so much to see, just enjoy every last bit of it.

Of course, I had to dress up a little, it was such a gorgeous place I couldn’t resist shooting an outfit, and I adore this off-the-shoulder dusky pink dress I picked up from ASOS, which FYI is currently in the sale, less than £25 – buy it quick! You can wear it dressy, just pair with nude heels and a cool hat for a wedding, or wear with black accessories for a chic look, or why not opt for a casual vibe like me and pair with your favourite trainers, which in my case are my Keds x Malhia Kent. I know I’ve already gushed over these trainers, but you can’t get more Parisian that these beauties and I love how this dress looks paired with flats.

I shot lots of cool content while in Paris, so keep your eyes peeled for a review of Renaissance Paris Vendome Hotel, a great 5-star hotel close to the main tourist attractions, my Paris highlights, as well as some pretty gorgeous looks for you to recreate on your city break this summer. I’m feeling so inspired after this trip that I can’t wait to put together all these blog posts for you all.

Have you been to Palais Garnier in Paris? Also, what do you think of my Asos dress paired with Keds?
