When it comes to fashion have you noticed that history tends to repeat itself? Now, it seems is the time of the 90s to have a revamp, and as I kind of actually remember living through this era the first time I thought I would inject a little nostalgia into this week’s style post. I remember the 80s, but I was a child, my decisions on my clothes weren’t really my own, in the 90s I was a teen, I had a love of combat mini skirts, crop tops, scrunchies, the bigger the better, denim, denim, and a bit more denim, bomber jackets, shimmer make-up, as well as high-top trainers, do you remember Kangaroos, with the cool pocket?

Yeah, it was a confusing mish-mash of tastes, I’m just so grateful that my teenage years were before social media and the over-sharing vibe we have now. I feel like I could have fun with my fashion, which granted didn’t always look cool, but hey, I didn’t have trolls telling me I looked crap. Oh, how I miss those simple days!!!

With 90s fashion taking hold of the high street I thought I would do a modern take of 90s nostalgia, basically, a look I loved wearing as a teen and showing how I would wear now. There were a few options, I was going to do a grungy slip dress, over a white tee, with a flannel shirt tied around my waist teamed with Docs, oh how I miss My So-Called Life, too young to know what that TV show is, look it up, it was amazing and where my crush for Jared Leto began. Then I was thinking go tomboy style like Winona Ryder back in the 90s, seriously this girl was my style hero, however, as I couldn’t find my Docs, I decided to dress around this cool bomber jacket I picked up in the Zara sale, a bargain at £12.99 and I’m totally obsessed with its ‘Don’t Grow Up’ slogan on the back.

Working the 90s trend

In the 90s, my jeans would have been bleached bombed, did you ever do that where you flicked bleach at your jeans to create pretty patterns, which sometimes also destroyed patches of your bedroom that you had to cover with a chair? No, just me, well, I decided that instead of bleach marks, crazy rips were needed, and these American Eagle Outfitter jeans are perfect. I love the fit, the higher waist is great to team with crop tops, so not to show off too much skin, especially needed now I no longer have that 90s teenage body, and I love this lacy top, it really has that perfect necklace for this trend, high and slightly halter in design, and I’m obsessed with the scalloped hemline, I actually think I had this top when I was 14!!!

Instead of high-top trainers, I really don’t think I’m cool enough for those anymore, I went for these cute, super lightweight Emu Australia suede boots **which are currently in the sale**. Not only is the perforated design divine, they are so comfortable, these are those shoes you want to travel in. I also think they really work with this look, but can’t wait to team them with cut-off denim shorts or even white jeans for a great summer look.

Finishing off my look are these cool pieces from new jewellery label Adore, part of the Swarovski group, which is basically putting beautiful, everyday pieces back in the spotlight. I have a blog coming up soon sharing more of their gorgeous pieces, but I couldn’t resist wearing these delicate necklaces, layered together and this fun statement ring.
