SAG Awards 2016 Red Carpet Trends

The SAG Awards always seem to be a little hit-and-miss for me, this year was no exception, however, I did notice a number of red carpet trends that I thought were worth sharing, from goddesses in green to starlets making a bold statement, and even pastel hues and floral prints were spotted, plus continuing on from the Golden Globes red carpet blue was a hot colour, I think it is safe to say no-one will probably wear blue at the Oscars as it has been everywhere this award season.

SAG Awards red carpet trends – Green

Seeing so much green on the red carpet took me by surprise, I’m not sure why, but when I think red carpet glamour green isn’t the colour I immediately think of, and there was such a varied spectrum of green on display. We had nominee Kate Winslet wearing a custom Giorgio Armani teal silk cady gown, which I think was the most gorgeous of the green hues, and then we had Eva Longoria in a dark green beaded mesh, body-baring Julien Macdonald dress with a plunging neckline and open back. The most vivid of the green gowns had to be Julianne Moore in this glittery green Givenchy couture halter neck number with crocodile leather details, which certainly made a statement. I have to be honest when I saw this on TV it looked more gold, and if I’m totally honest this has to be one of my worst-dressed looks of the night, I really didn’t like this gown.

SAG Awards red carpet trends – Bold Statements

I do love a bold statement on the red carpet and these three gowns were among my favourites of the night, just sadly pipped to my top five best-dressed list. First up we have a stunning Sofia Vergara in a bright pink ‘Jessica Rabbit’ style dress designed by Vera Wang, one of her go-to designers. I love everything about this va-va-voom look, it is sexy, and classic Sofia and she pulls it off beautifully. But when it comes to bright pink hues I think Emilia Clarke slightly pips Sofia in this plunging fuschia Dior couture ballgown, she is basically doing her best Barbie impression and I adore it. Plus I’m loving her hair and make-up, and her Dior fine jewellery earrings and rings.

The biggest statement though has to go to Sarah Paulson in this beautiful black silk velvet column Armani Privé gown, which featured a bodice of fringe in a delicate blend of fuchsia and royal blue adorned with Swarovski crystals. I loved this dress, and Sarah worked her hair and make-up, her bold pink lipstick was perfect. I think this look was absolutely divine, but I can see that it might divide opinions.

SAG Awards red carpet trends – Pastel Dreamssag awards 2016, sag awards, red carpet, award show, award season, celebrity, fashion, glamour, best dressed

The prettiest of the SAG Awards red carpet trends has to be these three pastel dreams, from pale pink to seafoam green, and it really was a welcome change from all the dark colours on the red carpet. My favourite was Christina Ricci, I think her youthful Christopher Kane gown with the lace bodice just took it ahead of Saorise Ronan in a blush pink floral-embroidered Michael Kors Collection gown – I do love a statuesque full-sleeve gown and this is a beautiful colour. I also have to give it to Saorise for her jewellery, she was wearing the most stunning winged Forevermark diamond earrings.

Then we have Mad Men star January Jones in this ethereal seafoam green Schiaparelli couture dress. Always one to go for the high-fashion choice, this gown is a beauty, I love the draping detail as well as the colour, and her hair and make-up is fierce. One thing you can always guarantee with January is she brings confidence to the red carpet.SAG Awards red carpet trends, sag awards 2016, sag awards, red carpet, award show, award season, celebrity, fashion, glamour, best dressed, january jones

SAG Awards red carpet trends – Blue Hues

Whereas the blue trend at the Golden Globes was darker, it seems for the SAG Awards stars turned to the brighter hues of the blue colour spectrum, well except for Naomi Watts, who went for this black and blue embroidered feather flower appliqué Burberry gown. Brie Larson had one of the lighter hues on in this baby blue Atelier Versace gown straight off the couture catwalk, it was definitely one of the sexiest gowns of the night, as you would expect from Versace. My favourite blue hue, however, had to be Claire Danes in this slinky 90’s vibe Stella McCartney gown, I just adore the two-tone midnight-and-sky blues, as well as the simply-yet-sexy fit. Also, Claire had some of the best jewellery on, I totally adored her lapis-and-diamond bracelet from Tiffany & Co.

SAG Awards red carpet trends – Flower Power

I’ve already showcased a few floral looks, Saorise Ronan in Michael Kors and Naomi Watts in Burberry, but I felt these two looks needed their own category. Kiernan Shipka made my top five in this floral Erdem, I totally adore that it is modern and fresh with the sweetheart neckline and black piping detailing to the corset, while also having a vintage look with the floral fabric, the icy metallic blue flowers are divine.

But when it comes to flower power no one can beat Rachel McAdams in this Elie Saab couture gown with a Swiss dot base embroidered over with black, sparkling lace tulips. I had to sleep on whether I liked this dark romantic gown or not, I have to be honest I’m still not sure, it’s the lighter coloured base of the gown that I’m having issues with, but you can’t deny how different it was from the rest of the red carpet looks that I thought I had to include it. But once again Rachel totally wins when it comes to her hair and make-up, her cool, roughly-done approach to her bob is so working, I love it.
