When it comes to awards shows, the Grammys red carpet is generally go-big-or-go-home, which does lead to a lot of celebrities making the worst dressed lists than the best, I think it’s because they think wearing their stage wardrobes is the best way to go, it is not. This year’s Grammys 2016 was no different, there was a lot of skin on show, not just Taylor Swift, and I love that the commentators were justifying it because California is having a winter heat wave, that doesn’t excuse some of the looks. For me, the looks that have grabbed my attention, with except for TayTay, were demure, they were sophisticated, elegant even, and most of all pretty.
My best-dressed list at the Grammys 2016
Top of my list has to be nominee Florence Welch, I was completely in awe of her gorgeous silk chiffon Gucci gown from the pre-fall collection. Alessandro Michele really is killing it with red carpet looks lately and this has to be one of my favourites, I love the colour, the hippy silhouette, and the gorgeous embellished star, heart, moon and dragonfly embroideries. I always love that Florence brings high-fashion to the red carpet, for me, she is a little like the Cate Blanchett of the music world, her looks are always a little different, but, oh so beautiful.
Next up is country singer Kacey Musgraves, who I have, to be honest, I hadn’t heard of before, but I won’t be forgetting her in a hurry after seeing her in this stunning textured tiered ombre purple, blue and teal Armani Privé gown. It’s kind of in the same spirit as Rihanna’s frothy pink number from last year’s red carpet, but perhaps just not quite as go-big-or-go-home. For me, the colour of Kacey’s is just perfection and I adore her coordinated nails and high ponytail.
Also working the blue is Selena Gomez who is smouldering in this perfectly fitted custom Calvin Klein Collection sequin dress. This is a sexy, without being trashy, and I love the added cut-out detailing as it stopped the fully embellished gown being too mature for her and added a youthful feel. I also love her hair and make-up, this has to be one of Selena’s best red carpet looks.
Wow, Taylor Swift knows how to make a red carpet entrance, not only was her date best friend Selena, she is also sporting a new hair-do, which I adore, and a barely-there colour block outfit. This look, a custom Atelier Versace coral bandeau, teamed with a fuchsia skirt with the highest slit, at first just made me think back to her Elie Saab look from last year, it’s basically the same silhouette but with more skin on show. There’s also similarities to Emma Stone’s Thakoon look at the Met Ball back in 2014 and Leslie Mann’s Monique Lhuillier that she wore to the LA Premiere of The Other Woman.
But saying all that I can’t deny how incredible TayTay looks – this is a daring look and she pulls it off. I’m also loving her red lippy and that divine multi-coloured Lorraine Schwartz necklace.
Rounding off my Grammys 2016 best-dressed list is Ellie Goulding, the British singer looked stunning in a beautiful pale blush column Stella McCartney gown. The simplicity of the front of this bespoke gown grabbed my attention, simple isn’t a word you hear often on the Grammys red carpet, but then she turned around and showed off the intricate diamond beaded draped back and I was floored. Ellie can be a little hit-and-miss on the red carpet, for me, this was a hit – I love this dress on her.
